Best Jersey Subs in FL!! 6/3/2010

I, too, cannot believe someone would give SubPort a bad review! Look you guys ... this is not a subway or blimpie! This is a wonderful, established, and INDEPENDENT sub shop, selling Jersey style hoagies. Okay, so not everyone is from Jersey, I'm a Philly girl myself, but what you have to understand is the simplicity of toppings is what it's all about -- the flavor of the fresh cut meats, cheeses, and bread ... and if you are a true hoagie fan, a good italian hoagie only needs lettuce, tomato, onion, vinegar and oil - and maybe some hot peppers if you like a kick in your seat! My only regret with subport is that I now live in Gibsonton and they are located in Carrollwood!! If I lived closer I would be there at least 3 times a week. Really, if you want precut, portioned, and packaged a week ago corporate meat and veggies, go to subway ... if you want the best thing south of Jersey ... GO TO SUBPORT!!! :) Pros: Super Authentic! more

Original Fletcher Ave. location 12/3/2009

My first encounter with the owner Alex and his Subport Sandwiches began back in the 80's located on Fletcher Ave. and I considered myself a frequent customer. Great subs, Alex was a sweetheart and his staff was most pleasant. \r \r I had moved away from the North Tampa area for several years but found myself in the area for another reason and decided I wanted a Subport sandwich and to see Alex. I drove to the Fletcher Ave. location and Alex and his Subport was gone! \r \r After research, I found Alex closed the Fletcher Ave. location due to lack of business as a ""day labor"" office opened next door and business pretty much died due to derilects/homeless hanging around the strip mall begging for money. Alex's Subport was now on Dale Mabry Ave.\r \r I stopped by Alex's Dale Mabry Subport shop and was pleased to find Alex behind the counter but it was a bitter-sweet reunion. That's where I learned about the Fletcher Ave demise and his unsuccessful attempt in the Brandon area shop.\r \r Alex is a good and honest man and makes great subs and employed great co-workers! It appears Alex may have sold Subport or hired new management as these negative reviews do not make sense to me.\r \r I loved Subport sanwiches. Next best meal to a juicy steak with onions and mushrooms, baked potatoe with extra butter and sour cream and corn on the cob and for half the cost! Hello? Plus, you don't have to ""dress up"" to enjoy Alex's subs has to offer your taste buds! \r \r I am now in South Brandon so it would be quite a travel to enjoy one of the many subs Alex has to offer me! Around 23 miles and I have been unemployed for over two months now so that would not make financial sense. That is the only reason why I am not enjoying a Subport sandwich and bantering with Alex and his co-workers.\r \r Alex, if you are reading this, please, if you can or even interested, open another bigger and better Subport in Brandon. We need you, your sandwiches and great co-workers! \r \r \r Pros: Best subs in town more

First come first serve not a new concept?? 6/1/2009

I must first say that i've been eating at Subport for nearly 20 years, ever since they were on flecter ave. But i'm not going to any more. Recently i was ordering a 1/2 sub at lunch time and was first in line and on my 1/2 hour lunch break. \r \r The sub maker an older fellow insisted on making subs for everyone in line 5 people ( even a few that came in after he started making my sub) all at the same time. He got confused and had to ask everyone 2-3 times about their orders and I had to wait for 5 + subs to be made ( all the while he was chit chating to everyone endlessly) before i could even get my 1/2 sub. \r \r Of course this took much longer than i had for lunch and couldn't eat my sub until after i returned to work late! No other resturant or sub shop makes the ""first in line customer"" wait extra long for all customers to be served before they can be served. \r \r I can understand if we were all together but that wasn't the case. This has been the situation before and i'm through trying to explain the ""first come first serve"" position. Pros: Good subs Cons: bad service!! more

State of the Art Subs 12/31/2007

I became a registered member of this website just now so that I could post a review of this place. I don't understand the negative review, except that perhaps it's only those who are dissatisfied who take the time to post an opinion That being said...\r \r My very discriminating Italian husband loves Sub Port and scoffs at any other sub place. We frequently get party trays (which are very reasonably priced and usually available the same day) and people DEVOUR the subs.\r \r The #5 Italian meat sub is mouth-watering. Its equal is not available anywhere else around here. The turkey subs are enormous and you can take home enough for another meal. Often there are loaves of day-old bread for sale at great value. \r \r In short, this is a great sub place. Yes, the atmosphere is casual and unfussy, but that's true of so many classic non-franchise places. \r \r This is a sub place for people who appreciate great subs, non-assembly line. Pros: Great Place, easy access. more

Best sub deal in town 11/18/2006

I saw the negative review and had to comment. We have been coming here for years for lunch and football party catering, Sub Port has the best real subs in Tampa. If you want fancy breads and millions of veggies, go to Subway. Sub Port always has fresh, high-quality meats and cheeses with all the toppings that you need for a real Jersey sub. Not so many people dine in, but all the locals know to drop by and pick up. This is a fantastic diner that hasn't compromised its menu to become trendy, the owner is very faithful to what a real Jersey sub should be. more

Save your time and money 8/3/2002

I usually love subs, but this case was a notable exception. The sub was fairly big, but the toppings were minimal. I got a roast beef with all the toppings, which included cheese, meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and condiments, with banana peppers or jalapenos at an extra charge, I think. I didn't see any black olives, pickles, onions, green peppers, cucumbers, alfalfa sprouts, green olives, or anything else. The meat and cheese were sliced right there, but the roast beef had a dark ring around the outside that looked unappetizing. The place didn't look too great from the outside, and on the inside was maybe appealing to people who love sports, but not to people like me. The atmosphere was boring, and there were only a few people in the restaurant, though it was around lunch time. I could barely make myself eat the sub. more
