Incredible service! Here's what happened.... I had a disk failure (see previous review) that was handled with professionalism, speed and competence. But that is not what this review is about.... I also purchased a new backup drive and software to manage the backups from Stentorian. The cost was below what I could have gotten on sale from Fry's or other similar big box joints. But... even that isn't really the story... \r About 9 months after I had put my shiny new backup drive into service I received an email from Steve of Stentorian. He told me they had detected an unusually high failure rate in the type drive they had sold me. He was concerned I could be at risk of another drive failure. Further, he wanted to give me a brand new drive of larger capacity for free in order to insure I didn't suffer another loss! How many companies that make a living from recovering lost data from failed drives proactively replace customer drives BEFORE a failure occurs because in his words"" it's the right thing to do""!!!\r I received the new drive along with instructions on how to transfer all of my existing data onto the new drive and set it up as my new backup drive. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes! I have to admit, I was a slug about returning the first drive and other than a couple of gentle reminders Stentorian was as patient with me as could possibly be expected. No, far more patient actually. They don't get to recover any monies until they return the drives... so they had fronted me an expensive new drive and patiently waited to recover the money THEY had already put out. \r \r I don't know when I've dealt with a more professional, honest and customer focused business. If all businesses were run like Stentorian does life would be a whole lot less frustrating when dealing with any type computer issue!\r \r I stand in amazement that this level of customer service still exists for bargain basement prices for the services offered. And no, I have no affiliation with this business, I am a simple Quality Engineer who believes exceptional businesses deserve exceptional praise. Stentorian data recovered my photos and files stored on my broken external hard drive. I was very impressed by Steve’s professionalism and calm demeanor. Wow! After my hard drive crashed, I took it to my usual computer repair company and after three days, they told me they couldn't recovery my data. I called Steve and he actually came to my house to pick it up! He called me the next day to tell me he would be able to recover my data no problem. He put it all on my external hard drive, then came back to my house to help me transfer it to my new computer. After many years of frustration with my PC, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Mac. While he claims he's not a “mac guy,” Steve was able to negotiate my new computer effortlessly, and made several suggestions and adjustments that ultimately saved me hundreds of dollars by not having to buy new software. He also provided excellent tech support by helping me get my internet and email up and going, and making sure everything was working properly. All of this during the holidays when most of the rest of the world was on vacation. He was always quick to return my calls and emails, super prompt, and his rates were very reasonable compared to the quality and timing of the work he did for me. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Steve and I would highly recommend him and Stentorian Data Recovery without reservation. more

I took an unreadable hard drive (with EVERYTHING on it from the last 6 years+) to Geek Squad. They spent 45 minutes looking over it, only to tell me they COULD NOT recover my data. I was devastated. Geek Squad advised me to send my drive off to some place in Kentucky for a few thousand dollars!\r \r I then found a local Disk Doctors Lab in town to do what the Geek Squad had suggested. After a few days of analyzing, they came back with a quote for $1400 and a turnaround time of 5-7 days. Even more frustrating, I couldn't speak to anyone who was actually analyzing my hard drive at Disk Doctors to talk about my situation. \r \r Thank goodness I found Steve at about the same time. He was willing to work over the THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY weekend, and he promised to beat their price. Unfortunately, Disk Doctors was closed for 4+ days, so I couldn't get my drive back until Monday. \r \r When I was finally able to get my drive to Steve on Monday, he went right to work. He let me know on Tuesday that things were looking good with the data recovery. By Thursday, he was ready to transfer the data to a new drive. I had it back from him by Friday morning, and he was right - he completey SMASHED the price of the Disk Doctors.\r \r Not only was Steve's price great, his customer service was excellent. He was flexible with meeting times and even ran outside one time to pick up something from my car, so I didn't have to park with a two year old. And, when I had questions after I got the data home, he was quick to respond to email. (I don't want to set the expectations too high, but he literally returned my email within one minute!!)\r \r I highly recommend Stentorian Data! My hard drive crashed with no warning, as they are wont to do. Using my laptop I located any number of suppliers of off the shelf data recovery software. I downloaded some of the trial versions and even went so far as to buy a full version. Hours spent to find loss financial and personal data were fruitless. I resigned myself too the loss and the I stumbled upon the Stentorian website. The fact it was local and I could actually speak to a local person convinced me to take one last attempt to recover my data.\r \r I contacted Stentorian and spoke to Steve about the possibility of recovery and he assured me that despite the failures with off the shelf software my data was most likely still there and he could find it. My computer locked up on me and I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to get all of my information to transfer to a new computer. Steven unlocked the computer, saved all my info and cleaned up my hard drive. Not only that, he was very patient with me, a computer neanderthal. I fear the computer, but I know Steven will help me out if I need it, and at a super reasonable rate. more

Over the years I've experienced many catastrophic hard drive failures. Sometimes I've been able to recover part of the data by moving the drive to a different computer, or sometimes by accessing it in some different way (e.g., booting from a CD, installing a different OS, or installing the same OS on a new partition, etc.). As hard drives have gotten bigger, however, I've had less success with these techniques, and the consequences of each failure have gotten more severe.\r \r This last time was just the worst. A 500GB Western Digital MyBook failed suddenly and completely, taking with it a full year's worth of hard work. Nothing I tried would get the data back, and starting over was unacceptable. Stentorian was able to recover all of it quickly at a great price, and then gave me some very good advice on how to prevent something like this from happening again. I'm very, very pleased. more

My thumb drive was like my journal/scrapbook/portfolio so I was devastated when I broke it. I lost all of my pictures, college papers, and music files, etc. I gave the thumb drive to Steve to see what he could salvage and he retrieved all of my lost data for me in a timely fashion. I've used Steve twice now to recover priceless photos, first from a failed hard drive and later from a corrupted SD card. One set of pictures was of my 95 year old grandfather playing with our 1 year old daughter in a small village in India. We thought we'd lost these moments forever! Steve came to my house to pick up the drive and deliver the ""loaner"" drive. Although the hard drive itself had failed beyond his capability to recover the data, he shipped the drive off to an appropriate recovery provider and worked with me to negotiate a lower price (folks, even with a cost break it cost $1400 to recover my irreplaceable data; keep this in mind the next time you decide to delay a backup!). Steve was terrific throughout and, when the clean-room folks provided a faulty data disk, jumped in and made sure it was taken care of immediately. Kudos to Steve and Stentorian!
