Love Lelli's\r Love the food\r Used to love the service, not so much any more.\r Waited for bread\r Butter was freezer burned\r Soup was watered down\r spaghetti was not the spaghetti they serve but some angel hair pasta with hardly any sauce.\r Wait\r and \r Waited\r and \r Waited \r for dinner to come.\r Being as we eat there often we knew what should come with dinner, and were told when we asked that they were out of green beans? So no vegetable was on the plate at all.\r They sent a side of carrots then charged us for them when we did not even order them?\r Do not go to Lellis during a Groupon or LivingSocial deal time. That was their excuse for lack luster food, no bread, then bread with freezer burned butter, then dinner with no veggie, then a veggie that they brought out cold then charged us for?\r Oh the best part, the server took our food that we asked to be wrapped and threw it out, ""On Accident"" supposedly.\r Not a good experience at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Had made a reservation for 8:30pm 1/13/2012

Had made a reservation for 8:30pm called a week before to confirm because we were coming from a formal event and had to be back home by 11:00pm for the babysitter. When we got there at 8:22pm they said they were running behind it should be twenty minutes the lobby was packed and they still were seating 8:00pm walk-in's. I had asked are you sure just twenty because if so we would wait he said he could not guarantee me that. Then a guy in the lobby said he told them the samething and they have been waiting over forty. We left and went to Morton's which is twenty minute drive we told had told them that we needed to be home and what happen and they got us in and out and we had a great meal. It seemed like lelli's didn't care when talking to them last night but I guess when you busy what does one customer matter more

Great food, Great Service! 7/14/2011

I am a regular patron of this restaurant and just bought some gift certificates at Groupon. I usually get the extra cut fillet and my wife always gets the Shrimp Lelli. We both have plenty to take home for another meal. The fillets are as good as I have had anywhere and the zip sauce is amazing. The prices are high but you basically get two meals for one because of how much they give you. It usually take a couple hours for your meal but if you have something scheduled they can get all your courses to you in an hour. I have probably eaten there fifty times and have never had a bad meal or bad service so take the bad reviews with a grain of salt. more

What happened to Lelli's? Worst Service EVER!!! 11/20/2010

We had dinner at Lelli's last night. From the moment we walked in the door there were problems. First, they ""lost"" our reservation - but that was OK, because they had plenty of open table space. Then we sat at the table for 30 waiting for service... we ordered a bottle of wine and (after a long wait) it finally came. We ended up drinking the whole bottle before our waiter came back for our order. What a nightmare... people at other tables were angry and we were just in disbelief that a restaurant could be run like this. When the food finally came - most of it was cold. Lelli's was one of our long time favorite traditions for a great night out. Not anymore - we won't be back. Goodbye Lelli's. more

Terrible Experience 3/26/2010

We had been to Lelli's many times and always found it to be an excellent place. Last night-not so much. Will NEVER go back. We arrived at 5:30 and figured we had plenty of time to eat and make it to the Palace in time for the 8:00 concert start time. We ordered fairly quickly and within 15 minutes we were bombarded with the salad, soup and spaghetti courses right on top of each other. Then we waited and waited and waited for our entrees that finally arrived just before 7:00. There were never any apologies from the waiter for the long wait. Never once did he come by and ask if we needed anything. So instead of a leisurely dinner we were forced to wolf down the entree . Never did get the spumoni-we wouldn't have had time to eat it. The dover sole was terrible -thin, dry and full of bones. Very disappointed in food quality and service. This place has gone downhill bigtime. We should have stopped at Papa Vinos. I'm sure it would have been better (and a LOT less expensive). Cons: Slow Service, Bad Food more

I would come back 2/13/2010

We came to Lelli's on the night before Valentine's day, a Saturday night. The restaurant was quite busy. We were seated quickly, received our place settings, bread and drinks. When I placed my order, the server came back to tell me that item was no longer on the menu. After I placed my second choice, he told me the same thing. Third time was the charm. I was a little concerned, but I didn't have to be. I thought the five course service was terrific and even though our dining experience was two hours, it didn't feel that way. There was never a long gap between courses. My family ordered standard Italian fare. The ravioli appeared to be handmade and delicate. My husband raved about his chicken paremsan. My eggplant was some of the best I've had, though they may have been a little heavy handed with the parmesan cheese, making the dish a tad salty. Pros: Service was excellent Cons: A few missteps with the menu more

Great atmosphere, delicious food.. Service was spectacular. 5/10/2008

I?ve actually been to this place twice and it gets better every time. The pasta and ingredients are unbelievably fresh and prepared to order. I ordered the veal parmesan, which was sublime. My mother had the penne alla vodka. Her pasta was so good that I knocked her unconscious and took her plate. Sure, I have to get a new mother now, but that pasta was worth it. The atmosphere is congenial with enough space for everyone to sit comfortably and the service is truly impeccable. Moreover, I?ve gone in twice with no reservations and I?ve never had a problem being seated. I cannot more strongly endorse this restaurant. more

FANTASTIC SERVICE-TO DIE FOR STEAK!!! 2/19/2008

Lellis was the location of my bridal shower for 60 people, and they not only worked with us on price, but gave us excellent service as well. They were so helpful with coordination and doing extra little things! We had a free signature drink they served and the servers kept excellent track of people's cash-bar orders as well. The 5-course food was overall fantastic, though the spaghetti is so-so. Minestrone-AWESOME, the filet-THERE ARE NO WORDS to describe it's flavor and tenderness. it melts in your mouth! Don't expect to get in and out quick, as this is a place to sit and enjoy your food, and the food isn't a hamburger, so it does take a little bit longer than McDonlads. The ambiance is rich and elegant, but you don't feel out of place if you come casual. The guests at my shower have even been calling me for weeks specifically to comment on how fantastic the food and service and entire experience was! more

One of the worst experiences ever! 2/15/2008

I thought this was one of the worst dining experiences. We made a reservation for 8pm, arrived 5 minutes early and were told it would be at least 15 minutes. Ok. Then we were seated. It took a waiter 10 minutes to acknowledge us. We didn?t receive bread until 20 minutes after that. I had to ask for a napkin, silverware, and my water to be refilled. Dinner took 1 hour and 45 minutes for our main courses to arrive. I will say that the filet was wonderful, but the remainder of courses were nothing special. Actually, I didn?t like the spaghetti at all, although my fiance did. Once we finally received our main course, we didn?t wait for our spumoni. We asked for our check and left. For the expense of this restaurant, I expect 5 star service. I believe TGI Fridays would have served us better. I would never eat here again. more

Great for ""Quality"" time with family 10/21/2007

My husband and I have been going here for years. Every birthday and every anniversary. Although some may say that the service is slow, thats what we like. We really get to enjoy each others company in between amazing courses of food. If you want to get in and get out I wouldnt suggest this place but if you want a romantic date than this is the place to go. The food is excellent and very presentable. Ive tried just about everything on the menu and no complaints so far. The service is excellent beginning with the valet service and it continues until we have left. An average evening is about two hours. Pros: Amazing food Cons: courses are spaced out more

Elegant Meal 10/16/2007

My experience at Lelli's was fantastic. I was seated at the time of my reservation in a spacious booth. My waitresses were pleasant and informative about the entrees available. Though it is an expensive meal, I felt it was worth it because of the overall experience and the amount of food they provide. They serve an awesome minestrone, the best I've ever had. My entree was delicious and although it was served a while later, I didn't mind because it gave me time to relax, digest, and spend time with the people I came with. I enjoyed trying the spumoni and I think it added to the whole elegant, Italian experience that comes with Lelli's. Pros: food and it's variety Cons: parking more

avoid at all cost 9/24/2007

You need to give every place a second chance, that?s what we thought. We went in the last 3 weeks twice. Big mistake. Twice into a disaster. Unfriendly staff, chairs with the springs / cushions on the floor. Not that they could have changed the chairs because of us in 3 weeks. Armrests that look like someone scraped the paint of the wood. Yuck!Be patient when you order. You need to decide if you want large amounts of food or massive amounts. Waiters are not very good listeners. Be prepared to wait for a long time. The food comes in spurts, not in well timed sessions. When they finally (20 minutes) start with soup or salad, the soup appeared to be out of a can. It is the same soup every time though that?s consistent. You got to give them points for that. Like, ?soup of the night?. Its there ?famous? minestrone. Then the salad arrived, small, very small and must have been prepared on the previous day. Main course at least 30 minutes after you had the soup. It starts with a massive amount on spaghetti ? why?? I guess to fill you up. Then what you ordered. I had veal Parmesan. The veal was covered with a 1/4 inch of hard backed Parmesan and it rested on to of, guess?.. the same spaghetti meat sauce I just had with the huge amount on spaghettis before??? And as recommended from the waiter.. you want potato or spaghetti with your veal?.I would suggest spaghetti. There they are again, spaghetti with, guess?..meat sauce. They are quick to sell you a drink though. Massive amounts on food but no quality. Pros: hell Cons: parking more

WHAT HAPPEN TO THIS ONCE GREAT RESTAURANT? 8/31/2007

Lellis USED to be our favorite place, now We wont go back. The food is great and well worth the price, but the service ruins the whole lellis experience. They used to have very professional servers waiting on you. Now I guess they are hire every young person that comes through the door. We were seated in a booth where all we could hear were these young servers on the other side of the wall talking about how drunk they got at Lellis after after hours the night before. The server we had looked like she went to sleep in her clothes. We ordered the chatu, A steak they cook at your table, it was butchered, she more like shaved it when she cut it, we like our steak medium, it was well. The veggies they used to serve like a whole experience to watch was now just thrown on our plate. We ordered a $75.00 bottle of wine and after she broke the cork trying to open it she handed the bottle to my husband and asked him to ""try his luck"". Pros: the food still has the same Great taste Cons: the service ruins the food more

Terrible birthday idea 5/16/2007

I chose Lelli's to have a family gathering for my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for 21 people. We ordered a couple bottles of wine...so far so good. When we began to order our food, we were informed they were OUT OF LETTUCE. They had used it up for Mother's Day. This was the THURSDAY after Mother's day. My brother in law ordered escargot. We were told they were out of the puff pastry they use for the recipe. When we finally figured out how to order enough food for everyone's meal and it came time for the spumoni that comes as dessert, we were told they were OUT OF SPUMONI. When my son wanted his surf and turf boxed up to take home, we were told they were OUT OF BOXES, so they dumped the whole $50.00 meal in a tall plastic quart container mixed in together. It looked like dog food. The whole experience just became a ridiculous joke. When we left, of course they were OUT OF MINTS. Pros: when it's good, it's very good Cons: when it's bad, it's HORRID!! more

Not worth the expense 1/28/2007

We went on a Saturday night. It was crowded, but we had a reservation for 7:30 and was seated within 15 minutes. Many people were there to have dinner before a program at the Palace, so they had to get out by a certain time, and the staff was trying to get them going. We had 2 waitresses for our table and they apologized for not getting to us very quickly, but now that the theatre crowd was gone they will be very attentive. They were not. We sat down at 7:45. We weren't asked our order until 15 minutes later. We got the antipasta dish and drinks fairly quickly after that. It took over 30 minutes to get our meals, and my pasta was warm at best. Over all, the food was alright, the service slow, even when there isn't a crowd and they are very overpriced. I had a combo of spaghetti and ravioli, medium size portions and it was 25.00 Too much for pasta! I don't believe I will dine there again. Not worth the money. If you do go, plan on spending a lot of time and money. Pros: Ambience Cons: everything else more

Meal from hell 4/13/2006

It has been several years since I had last been here when this great old time restaurant was located by the GM bldg. I was in Auburn Hills and entertained two friends from out of state. It had to be one of the worst experiences of my life. A great bottle of read served very warm. The waiter said they no longer had a wine cooler since the flood whatever that meant. We asked for the manger and first as said he was busy in the bar then told he had left. Over priced bad food, bad service. Go anywhere but here. Pros: nothing Cons: bad food, bad service, over priced more

Don't waste your time or your money at Lelli's. 4/9/2006

The service was horrid, the filets should not have been cold and the wine should not have been warm. In fact, our server, Jason, offered to chill the wine for us. Unfortunately, our cold steaks arrived six minutes later poor planning and poor service. I was shocked that when they brought the check, they had charged us for the wine. After spending $42 each for 3 filet mignons (served cold) and $62 for a bottle of warm wine, the manager wouldn't even come and talk to us. Instead of listening to the customer, the manager (Steve Lelli) told the server, Jason, to bring us the unfinished bottle of wine and pay for it. Pros: ambience, valet parking Cons: Poor service, Poor wine storage more

Best Filet Known to Man 9/26/2005

I was first introduced to Lellis in 1998 when it was located in Detroit. A fire destroyed that location in 2000. Now located in Auburn Hills, the BEST filets are served. We eat here on special occasions and bring our out of town guest and encourage them to try the filet. From what I hear, the other food is just as wonderful, but the filet is to die for. You barely need a knife to cut it and the zip sauce is amazing!!! Be sure to go in on an empty stomach, because it is a 5 course dinner meal. I recommend the extra cut, because you get a little more filet, and they make wonder leftovers for a midnight snack. Can be pricey, but in the summer they have roll-back prices. It is about half off. Great time to try it or make an excuse to go twice!!! Pros: Spectacular Food, Comfortable Setting, Awesome Food Cons: Can be Pricey more

One of my favorites 7/10/2005

Lelli's is one of my very favorite restaurants in Detroit. Although I have heard horror stories about poor service, I have never had bad service there (once I had to wait a few minutes for my bread and water), and it's usually excellent. The minestrone is the best soup I've ever had in my life. The entrees, though expensive, come with an antipasto tray, soup, salad, pasta, and dessert. The shrimp Lelli is spectacular, and the steaks are to die for. Stay away during the holidays (all the horror stories seem to have taken place during busy holiday times) more

Mostly average 2/5/2005

This is a very popular lunch spot due to its proximity to DaimlerChrysler. However, unless you live in the area (or are entertaining the aforementioned on a limited time schedule), there are considerably better valued restaurants in Rochester, Troy, even Pontiac. People that ""crave"" their steaks or Italian have obviously never cooked their own nor had relatives that shared their recipes. Pros: close to DCX, ample parking, large group access Cons: average food, expensive, mediocre wine list more
