Editorial review from Citysearch 6/23/2012

Very uninspiring -- particularly for young dancers (under 8) who are stuck with a much, much older (seemingly tired) teacher. Recitals are full productions . . . which are great if your child is above 6 or 7 and is very serious about dance. However, for those younger dancers, the costs and rules for the recital production are ridiculous. Most parents with kids under 6 just want to see their child dance and do not want to pay hundreds of dollars in addition to their tuition to do so. The school is also mainly a ballet school (which is fine) but not very broad and certainly not progressive. The dancers do apparently perform and showcase their work from time to time, but they offer no competition company. more

Children and young adult dance company 8/12/2011

this dance studio goes beyond expectations. Bring your dancer here if he/she wants to go beyond ""recreational"" dance classes. The discipline and techniques are more fit for a junior dance company. The ballet training program lifts daners to their highest potential led by a highly trained and experienced leaders in the field of dance. more

A Dancer's Dream 6/29/2011

I began dancing with State Street dance studio in 2005 after my second child was born. I was looking for a studio that not only offered adult dance classes but for a place that blended professionalism with camaraderie for all ages. I grew up with dance being a major part of my life, so I also wanted to find a place that my children would have the opportunity to explore dance and see if it brought them the joy that it brings to my life. Every year I have seen many improvements with the studio. Feedback is taken very seriously, and the staff works hard to meet the needs of the parents and dancers. The classes cost more than a park district class, but you certainly get your money?s worth here and I am so pleased with my experience that it is well worth the money for me to pay a babysitter so I have a chance to get to a class at night! The staff have always been friendly and courteous and communicated very well in a variety of situations. It?s so nice to have the viewing windows for each room and the chance to try out the many different classes offered. The studio has been well cared for, and I appreciate the large rooms that give plenty of space for dancing. The instructors come from a variety of experiences and are very dedicated and qualified. I felt fortunate to be a part of the studio?s performances of the Nutcracker. As an adult dancing in the show, you are aware of the full context of what it takes to bring a show together. The young dancers were so full of excitement and joy with their dancing that I knew I was in presence of extraordinary group of people that work together to dance for all the right reasons. Professional dancers are hired to be a part of the show, and this really enhanced the complete experience. If you?re looking for a dance studio where your daughter or son can express themselves to their greatest potential, State Street is the place. My daughter began dancing with the studio last year. She has been exposed to the art of ballet in such a positive way that she looks forward to class every week! After her first performance on stage for this June?s production of Coppelia, it was evident how well the staff and dancers and families cooperated together to create a production that impressed not only the audience but the dancers themselves! The studio has a variety of classes for beginners as young as 3 up to adults and dancers participate in many community activities and fundraisers. Dance on! more

an average dance studio with a fancy name 8/19/2008

definately not a ""pre-professional"" studio by any means. while instruction is personalized, some teachers are not throughly qualified. communication between administration and clientle is lacking. Pros: facility, location, strong ballet training program, strong advanced modern classes, small class size Cons: too expensive, varied instruction quality, weak jazz , hip-hop, beginner/intermediate modern classes, and tap classes, expensive performance costumes more

a real review 10/14/2007

just to let everyone know, the above review is by the owner's husband. but anyways, state street is a good studio depending on which classes you take. ballet classes with altin naska, catalina garza, and kim craigie are definately worth your money but the other ballet teachers there are not, if you are thinking about training seriously. also, laura kariotis is a great modern teacher. st. street boasts being a pre-professional studio. while this might be the case in 5 years or so, currently the studio is still in its building stages. however, the facility has 3 beautiful and new dance studios, one of which is very spacious (almost the size of a stage!) Pros: great facility, great modern instruction under laura kariotis, good ballet instruction under catalina garza, altin naska and kim craigie, small class sizes, great master classes Cons: expensive, some not so great teachers, bad communication between staff more

Great people! 2/1/2007

The staff is the best. A lot of experienced instructors. The director of ballet is Catalina Garza (former Joffery) is fantastic. I saw there Nutcracker at the Norris in St. Charles and it was great. more
