Editorial review from Citysearch 1/24/2017

This past April, 2016, we had to let our beloved golden retriever, Sammy, pass on. Dr. Lafreniere and his staff could not have been more kind and compassionate. After determining that it was Sammy's time to go, the doctor made her comfortable and we went home to say our goodbyes. We came back to the hospital and she went to sleep, peacefully, surrounded by those she loved. Thank you, Dr. Lafreniere for making a sad day for us as bright as possible.\r The Hollands more

AVOID THIS EMERGENCY VET CLINIC 4/17/2015

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID - My wife and I had a very bad experience at the Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic (SCVEC) with our cat. We brought our indoor cat into SCVEC due to the fact that it was limping and our normal veterinarian was closed. The initial estimated cost of $400.00 plus dollars was raised to $500.00 plus dollars when we were informed that our cat was "morphine" resistant. The SCVEC administered morphine to assist in taking a simple x-ray. Research on the Internet indicates that the use of morphine in cats is very controversial due to the fact that cats do not have the enzyme to metabolize morphine. Administering morphine to cats results in a very heightened state of excitability. SCVEC administered TWO doses of morphine that did not work in calming our cat so that a simple x-ray of her hind leg could be taken. Our cat was then given a dose of propofol . An X-ray was then taken and sent off on the Internet to be read by a unknown radiologist. The radiograph w more

out for money 4/25/2013

had to take my dog there because she got hurt on a sunday .all they care about is money,my dog was hurt very bad from a chain link fence had to get 27 staples and stitches.she snapped at a worker and they contacted the health department and they quarantined her for ten days then I had to pay again at her vet so she could be released.cost me 753 dollars at the clinic and 33 for exam. I think they should have another clinic for emergency where there just not out for cash.they wonder why people cant take care of animals more

Stark County Vet Emergeny Clinic...Notice how it says EMERGENCY in the name. I had a very sick puppy who was throwing up blood. They refused to see him without payment up front. They accept paper checks to hold for two weeks but refused to hold my check card info in the same way. I had to sit in my car with my puppy throwing up BLOOD for two hours as I tried to find someone who could give them their credit card information over the phone. Over $70 to just walk in the door, another $70 for a test and $75 to hold him as they put him to sleep BECAUSE I couldn't give them $1500 in FULL at midnight to try and save his life. Oh yeah their business cards say they love pets. It should say they love money. I"ve never experienced so much greed in my life. All because they would only hold a paper check and not a check card info..if you aren't rich and its after hours in Stark county our animals are going to die. He was only 7 weeks old hadn't even had a chance to live yet. A link to his photo is more

So grateful they are there... 7/6/2008

On July 4, 2008 my 7 year old long haired Chihuahua was bitten severely on the neck by one of our other dogs. We rushed Sugar to SCVEC and they immediately took her back. What we originally thought was a nasty bite that might need stitches turned out to be a severe wound that required surgery. Sugar came through it, and we are so very grateful to the doctor who saved her life. We are on our way to visit Sugar for the second evening in a row. She requires close care and attention while she recovers from her surgery, which the wonderful people there are providing. Because her accident was on a holiday followed by a weekend, the services that SCVEC has provided have been invaluable. The staff has checked on her and given us updates with every concerned phone call we've made (at least twice a day). They have allowed us to visit and hold her for as long as we like. The prices are high, which is an unfortunate side effect of such a pertinent service. For a soon to be married couple with a ne more

We took our kitten there about 10 pm on Nov 29 2007. He had been attacked by a dog and shaken severely. There was no external bleeding but he was limping on his left hind leg. \r \r By 11 pm they had xrayed him and found that his back leg was broken at the hip and would most likely need to be amputated. We left him there over night so they could watch his vitals. We were concerned about internal organ damage. When I picked him up at 7:30 am, I was assisted by Janna a vet tech who was WONDERFUL! She discharged him to our family though he had never been there because he was a stray we rescued. She talked with me at length about our options for him and gave me kleenex when I cried. When we left, she carried him to the car. It was after 8 am, their closing time. She was wonderful and I was very pleased with the vet, Joy Hudson DVM.\r \r Prices there are higher - about double on an xray - we had a $337 bill that night, but they are open 5 pm to 8 am M-F and weekends for emergencies. more

When our older dog got really sick in the middle of the night we took her here and they did an excellent job of helping her and taking care of her. She was having trouble breathing and they pulled her right out of it. She is now much better but I believe if we hadn't taken her to this facility it would have been a very different ending. The staff here is so caring. I hope we never have to use this facility again but I wouldn't hesitate to go back here if we had to. more
