Joey at the door hooked us up in no time. We were a BIG group - 15 and looked like we weren't going to find a place to sit all together. Joey took us upstairs in a private dining room and we had the best food and impeccable service. We will definitely go back any time we are in the city. Love it! Thanks Joey! more

Mouth watering lobster 4/6/2010

Star Joey is fabulous. He was so friendly that we kept hugging him. The lobster tails for wonderful and there is nothing like fresh lobster. We walked the entire French Quarter and got the best prices for lobster at Star. I had two lobster tails, a salad and a baked potato with everything on it for only $25. I got an extra side dish. The lobster tails comes with one side. Service was great and everyone there is extremely friendly and anxious to help you. You can't find a better place for lobster. Be sure to give Star Joey a big hug from the two women in St. Louis. Pros: Two lobster tails for $22 more

Best please in the French Quarter 3/29/2010

Penny was our waitress.... she works every day but Thursday and she was fabulous!! We went on our 2nd night in the city and we're going back again before we leave. The whole experience was just wonderful. Joey at the front door told us all about the menu as we were walking in. We were very impressed and would recommend this to anyone visiting New Orleans Pros: Great food, excellent service. Reasonable price Cons: Smaller Dining room more

Fantastic Find 2/27/2009

My husband and I travel for business and eat in many restaurants every week. This was one of the best meals we have had in recent years. The seafood (lobster, shrimp, crab and Oysters Rockafeller) were cooked to perfection!! more

Amazing Food ,Terrific Service - Great Find ! A Must Try Restaurant 1/7/2009

We recently spent six nights in New Orleans over the New Year's Eve Holiday. For five nights we walked right passed this restaurant - on our way to and from the ""Known Name"" restaurants. Each Night Joey would greet us coming and going. He would smile and invite us in for drink, or bite to eat. Finally on our last night in New Orleans we decided to have dinner at Star. What a nice surprise ! The food was terrific, the service was prompt and attentive. We enjoyed our dinner while listening to some great jazz music. We enjoyed our entire stay in New Orleans, but our last night was something special. Star Restaurant is truly a 5 Star Restaurant in all categories. I had the twin lobster tails, and my honey had the porterhouse steak. Both dishes were cooked perfectly - the garlic mashed were to die for, Although we did not have much room for desert, we ordered the chocolate cake. We cleaned the plate - scooped up every last crumb and bit or cream !!! Yummy Place. Be sure to wear something that stretches when you eat here! \r \r Ann and Bruce more

looking for a good steak and seafood restaurant? you wont find it here. 12/26/2007

Although the environment was atmosphere was delightful, i dont see how any of these people have rated this below average establishment with 5 stars. in addition to it being extremely over priced (i.e. a 1 and a half pound lobster for $30) it doesnt even taste half as good as the other reviewers claim. The lobster was just boiled and served with butter, the t-bone tasted like soemthing from IHOPS value menu, and the ""baked"" oysters were half-assed. \r \r The all beef entrees were served with extremely soggy and bland patatos and ""vegetables"" and the lobster came with a baked patato, which was the only thing i actually enjoyed there. \r \r All in all, this is only a restaurant that pleases your sight not your taste. There are many other quality restaurants that i would rather go to than here. If you are a local, dont come here. there are TOO many good restaurants you can go to other than here. if you want quality seafood and steak go to Dragos. Excellent steaks and beautiful lobsters, priced accordingly to their size. (a 3 pound lobster goes for $35). Also Acme oyster house has great baked oysters that actually taste great and resemble actualy oysters. Not to mention, Drago's char-broiled oysters are the city's best. \r \r Pros: good atmosphere Cons: inappropriately priced, oysters horrible, measly lobsters, nothing you cant find at your local IHOPS more

Best Lobster dinner in town. 11/5/2007

My friends and I go to New Orleans at least twice a year and never fail to have dinner there at least once. The lobster is oh so good, melts in your mouth. My friends enjoy the steaks which are excellently prepared.\r Joey is the Best, he goes the extra mile to please everyone. We love him! He always remembers us. The recently remodeled decor is beautiful. The service is excellent. The prices are reasonable too. more

Star(Joey) Best Restaurant in New Orleans 3/11/2007

Star ""JOEY"" he's the star and the restaurant is terrific. My colleage and I are from New York and have traveled on business to New Orleans for the past 12 years. We happened upon Star about 8 years ago and have been eatting there ever since. We take all our clients to Star and Joey makes everyone feel as if they are the ""Star of the evening"". We stay at the Marriott on Canal this past trip we stayed 3 nights and ate at Star (3 nights). We could eat anywhere. We cancelled out of Commanders, just to be with Joey. Yes, they're stuffed muchrooms are wonderful, steak perfectly cooked, lobster tails unbelievable, soft shell crab to die for ( by the way listen to Penny if your lucky to get her as a waitress her suggestions are right on. Oh yes, let's not forget the Bread Pudding, to die for. Well I think that 's 3 nights worth of eatting. As I said it's the best, it's relaxing and what more can we say about JOEY. You can't miss him, he's always outside greeting everyone as they walk by. The best customer service in New Orleans. Thank you for making our evenings restful and enjoyable. mb/gz Pros: Thumbs up to customer service, Joey is tops, and Penny very good waitress Cons: non more

Best of the South 5/21/2006

My husband, sister, and brother-in-law have been going to this restaurant at least once a year for the last five years. The atmosphere is great, the service impecable, the food is absolutely high quality, and the prices are quite reasonable. We will be going there again this year. I sometimes think we keep coming back to New Orleans just to eat at this restaurant. Pros: great food, good atmosphere, great service Cons: you have to go early more

Best in Trip 9/16/2005

We came in off the street without a reservation. Luckily, we were early enough to be seated for dinner immediately. Our waitress was without a doubt, the best server either one of had ever run across. We started with stuffed mushrooms and oysters, then on to the stuffed filet mignon with potato and veggie. The food we ate was fresh and of high quality and could not have been prepared better by anybody - anywhere! We were on a month-long vacation and dined in nine cities across the southern U.S. That meal stands out as the ""best in trip"" for us. more

Eat here, best food...not a tourist trap 8/18/2005

We asked our valet for a restaurant that locals would go to and he suggested Star... the BEST stuffed mushrooms I've ever had in my life. All the food was top of the line great. I visit New Orleans from Mobile for 25 years and this place beats all the other ""popular"" tourist restaurants, hands down. Do yourself a favor and go there. It is small and charming. Everything melts in your mouth. My daughter had a steak to die for and my seafood rivalled anything I have gotten along the Gulf Coast. Pros: Very fresh food, Average price, Personable more

must dine here 6/22/2004

the staff was incredible...we wanted for nothing. The food was a taste of heaven! I would recommend dinning here to anyone visiting New Orleans! Get there early..the place fills up fast (there was a 45 minute wait to get in the night before we dined there) Pros: great service, incredible food, not too crowded Cons: , not a lot of space, get thee early more

STAR joey's 5/7/2004

A trip to New Orleans just isn;t complete without a dinning experience here. My wife and I have been coming for several years and each time is more delightful than the last. The food is simply THE BEST. No matter who you are, the staff makes you feel as if they have been waiting just for YOU to arrive, to make your meal specially for you. Absolute masterpeice of an establishment! more

Better than Commander's! 7/3/2002

I'm a New Orleans local and my mom was visiting last month. For her last night here, we had reservations at Commander's Palace, where we had dined earlier in the week. Well, the last night came and we cancelled at Commander's to come to Star! The food at Star is divine, the atmosphere is welcoming, much like eating at an old friend's house, and the service is impeccable. Star Joey, the host, always treats my guests and I like we're royalty. Star is New Orleans' best kept secret. more

Best food and atmosphere in town! 5/29/2002

Came down for a short vacation and after walking by we decided to turn around and give The Star Steak & Lobster House a try. After a few minutes we were welcomed in to a cozy place in the restaurant were we experienced one of the best times of the trip. The service was efficient with a personal touch. Most importantly, the food was stupendous, from the stuffed mushrooms to the lobster tail and filet. The bill presentation was most shocking, in that we spent well under what was expected for such good dishes. Thanks to Billy and Mary for having such a gem. more
