Best

Great selection of fresh product and perfectly executed dishes.

Worst

Yes, it is in Beverly Hills, and you see celebrities, but you'd better have three hours to spare for lunch. The food looks real elegant, but the taste is average. And the waiters ...

Worth the wine service... 4/23/2003

They were kind when we came in, but we personaly all got bumped several times when sitting by servers who were running around with orders. Kinda reminded me of New York, while the bill reminded me of Paris. A nearby door kept slamming, too. The one higher reason to return was the wine service. The woman who served us was knowledgeable, courteous enough to fill out waters even when they went empty and poured two magnificent bottles of wine. Her recommendations, no less. She made it a Spago night for us, although the food was pretty good, too. Pros: Wine Service, Food Cons: Rushed waiters/server, Hostess more

Beverly Blues 2/25/2003

I was in on business from NYC and have always wanted to try Spago's. I have to say I totally expected a much better ambience. I've been to alot nicer restaurants in NYC. The room in back of the patio reminded me of a cafeteria. The meal was not worth the expense. I had a 9:30 reservation and did not receive my dinner until 11:00 p.m. Overall I felt that Spago's was very overrated. Sorry Woolfie!! I did discover a fantastic Jazz Steakhouse on the same block (Canon Rd) called Mastro's. The steak was of the same caliber as Luger's, Palm, Homestead etc...the place is beautiful and they have a wonderful piano player who sings jazz. Great for a romatic date. A few cast members from FRIENDS were there. I will definately go back to Mastro's. Pros: celebrity sites Cons: lacks decor, expensive, medicore more

Great Taste But Numbing Sensation 1/30/2003

The ambience wasn't quite as elegant as I expected but the food was excellent full of distinct flavors. Only con was the truffle soup left my tongue numb for 2 days, great taste but left an unpleasant feeling. more

All fluff, little stuff 12/12/2002

Yes, it is in Beverly Hills, and you see celebrities, but you'd better have three hours to spare for lunch. The food looks real elegant, but the taste is average. And the waiters and chef don't seem to care what you think of their service or food, because they are so busy doting on celebrities or large groups. Pros: Good ambience, easy parking, food well presented Cons: very slow service, food tasted average, small servings more

Don't Believe The Hype 12/12/2002

Go for the experience, but don't believe the hype. The food is delicious, but not exquisit. It is definately a nice place, but not spectacular. It seems everyone there has a motive. To see and be seen. Hello, it's in LA. Bottom line: OVER RATED more

Over the top 12/9/2002

The food was good but we felt rushed. I will try it again as my family is in the business and I know they will be unhappy if I decline to join them. The cocktails are really good. more

Sublime 12/4/2002

An outstanding dining experience - great place to take out-of-towners. Great star sightings. more

Must Go Spago 11/18/2002

If you're looking for excellent food and don't mind the expense - this restaurant definitely lives up to it's high expectations. We dined on a Sunday and had a fabulous experience. The added bonus was that Wolfgang Puck was in the restaurant for a TV show shoot earlier that day. Maybe that made the difference in the food and service on this particular night, but I would suggest not to leave LA without dining here. Pros: Amazing food, Great service more

Worth it's reputation 11/15/2002

Yes, it may be difficult to get in at the time you want, and yes, it is always packed and a bit noisy, but... The food is every bit as good as advertised (probably better), in a very nice, but not snooty atmosphere. Above all, with this place's reputation, it would have every reason to be the ultimate in 'attitude:' nothing is further from the truth. From the person who takes your reservation, to the valets, to the waitstaff, to the people clearing the table, this restaurant gives no hint of taking itself too seriously, and treats all clients with dignity and true friendliness. Pros: Great food, Polished service Cons: Hard to get res., expensive more

Wollfy is rude 11/7/2002

I have visited Spago's on several occasions, however my worst time ever was when my husband, daughter and I celebrated our daughter's birthday there. Between the kitchen errors and Wolfgang's rudeness we haven't been back since. My overall opinion of the whole situation was that perhaps if you are a daily or weekly visitor than perhaps you are treated as a citizen but if you are an occasional visitor than that will not be the case. My most memorable family evening there was the night President Clinton was there. All the workers were humans and treated us as humans. And when the President attempted to get close to us Wolfgang interrupted the moment. Tuesday's are the best. more

Still a classic 10/29/2002

I enjoy Spago's since it's one of the shishi places in town where you get consistant service and food. I've never been disappointed, and it's always amusing to see who's around. The chef's tasting menu was rather good, if a bit rarified this time. The sweetmeats may be a bit much for some tastes, but it's definitely a gourmet selection of small dishes which give you a wide range to sample. I always enjoy talking to their very informed wait staff and sommaliers - they offer excellent suggestions and don't push anything on you which you don't want. Pros: Good gourmet food, excellent service, informed staff Cons: tables are close, bit loud when packed, shishi clientele more

You'll Feel like Royalty 10/26/2002

My son and I ate here for his 4th birthday and the staff, management and Wolfgang Puck himself were all very friendly. The food was amazing. I'd recommend the crab cake highly. We felt like royalty from start to finish. Besides the amazing food, we also got to meet the chefs in the kitchen. Everyone was great, the food was the best I have ever had in my life! I'd highly recommend Spagos to my friends and family. Pros: Friendly, Delicious, Exquisit more

I'm not raven about this place nevermor 9/22/2002

Highly overated food--four guests and not one was happy with their meal--Puck came over and said hello, big deal(not as big as the check). Been there three times and it was three strikes, so I am OUT(of Spagos) more

A great dinner!! 9/18/2002

We visit LA once a month or so, and decided (impulsively) to splurge for Dinner @ Spago. Our hotel was able to get us a same-day dinner reservation at 6PM on a Saturday. We had the Chef's special, without the wine (already had a buzz from the 20 minute wait at the bar-- not too bad!). An amazing meal! We were served 9 courses with impeccable service over the course of 2 hours. Never more than 20 minutes between courses. We couldn't move for the rest of the night! We had planned to go out after dinner, but were so full and satisfied that we went back to the room and collapsed. If you're oging to splurge to the tune of $100 each (not too bad for a Sat. nite) I highly recommend it!! Pros: Service, Value, Great food! Cons: Crowded @ bar more

Good to see once for yourself 9/5/2002

A few friends and I decided to eat at Spago's to see what the buzz was all about. Well after having confirmed reservations, we didn't get seated until two hours later. We kept being bypassed for the VIPs I assume. The food was actually pretty good, but yes the portions were small. When they say medallions, they mean medallions. The waiter was prompt and friendly, however the food was slow in coming out (approx 50 mins). You bet we were hungry after nearly waiting 3 hours for food. Will I return? Perhaps one day as or with a celeb, as I might get prompter seating and faster service. Pros: Food Variety, Atmosphere Cons: Long Waits, Portions more

Left Still Hungry 8/19/2002

Yes, the food and atmosphere was quite good, and I did get to see a few actors - but any time I drop $100/head, I expect to not still be hungry. The appetizer was really pathetic - $20 for 3 bites of sashimi. Pros: Star Watching Cons: Value more

Great Dining Experience 6/21/2002

Spago is one of the best Restaurants in LA. The food is fabulous, the service terrific and the atmosphere very enviting. Pros: food, atmoshpere, romantic Cons: showy, expensive, wine list more

Any way you slice it..... 6/17/2002

Wolfgang Puck is still at the top of his game. The original has closed but this sister space is just as fantastic. The dining room offers a different ambiance with the French patio doors open to an amazing view of a tree. The food is always the same....Stellar! When you combine his love for food and fresh ingredients the recipe is magic. Follow his motto ""Live, Love, Eat""! and you cannot go wrong. more

Bigger and (maybe) Better 6/3/2002

As much as I feel nostalgic for the frenzied, over-crowded original Spago, this newer location allows you to breath while eating your fiddlehead fern pizza. The food remains among the very best in LA -- pure, pristine ingredients, impeccable seasoninig, and artful presentation. It's as if Wolfgang Puck has a corner on every good tomato and fresh basil around. I go there whenever possible. more

Celebs galore 5/20/2002

After all these years, Spago Beverly Hills is still a top spot for celeb spotting. Food and ambience are still excellent, too. more
