STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET!!!!! 4/6/2012

Stay away from this vet. I used the Southdown Animal Hospital for over 4 years. However, when my cat got sick, they treated me like dirt. After having been a customer of Southdown Animal Hospital and never, but never, late with any financial obligation or bill to the vet, when my cat died and I had PAID the bill in full in the same week it was rendered, the staff at the Southdown Animal Hospital called my home almost daily yelling at whoever answered the phone, including my kids. Keep in mind the bill was PAID and it was painfult to keep hearing the name of my cat on the answering machine for my kids. They sent me a letter by a certified return receipt requested with PAID bill. Finally, the woman at the Southdown Animal Hospital called and said to me in the coldest voice called me a "liar" and said she would report me to collections. I said "Do that. I paid it already." I wonder if they are that disorganized and desperate fro a $600.00 payment, how do they really treat the ani more

Long Island Best Vet and Amazing Staff 9/17/2011

Southdown Animal hospital in huntington ny is by far the best vet place . They have a amazing , caring , and professional staff from the minute you work thru the door till you leave the office . they not only made myself and my fiance feel secure but they made my 13 yr old AMSTAFF feel like he was at home they were so kind and caring . Secondly , i have to mention the vet himself Dr. Brodrick he came into the exam room introduce himself to me and even to my dog rubbed his head and gave him a hug which i thought was very compassionate. He gave him a very through exam. Most of all we were working with a limted budget and the bill came to almost double of what we had the doctor was so kind and took money off the bill and lets us pay the remainder of the bill a week following his surgery. i mean you dont find people out like him and his staff anymore .iwould highly recommend this place to anyone even if you dont live the area it defintely worth the drive . THANK YOU SOUTH DOWN HOSPITAL for helping us and our jack (dog) in our time of need...... more

Great vet 5/29/2011

I was told about southdown animal hospital from my sister who has a 11 year old english bulldog (Austin) Austin was having isses that he was going to another vet for. That vet made him so bad that they told my sister just to take him home and make him comfitable since he is 11. She took him to southdown and the DOC treated him and now Austin is like a new pup. SO my sister gave me his name so i can bring my two puppies there. After meeting with him and his staff we decided to have our dogs fixed at this location. DOC explained everything for us. When my bullmastiff damaged her stiches from jumping on and off the coach we called him on a Sunday when they where closed, He came in and treated her. She had to stay for a few days. The staff there kept us infromed on her progress and even after days home they called to make sure my two puppies are doing good. This vet's office is NOT about making money they care for pets. more

When I came back Dr. Broderick took over and all I can say is Thank You,Thank You, Thank You !!!!!!!!! Fella stayed 8 days , with me not working I had limited funds and I expressed this to Dr.Broderick who then waved some of his fee's to ease the payment for me. I am so "Happy" to have Fella well and happy again so thanks a million !!!!! more

wonderful animal hosptial 1/1/2011

I contacted Dr. Geoffrey Broderick for the first time 30 years ago at the Animal Clinic at Southdown, 229 Wall St, Huntington, N.Y, with regard to a cat that belonged to my sister. The cat was only a little over a year old and had suddenly developed breathing problems. We had gone to a local veterinarian who took an x-ray and determined that the cat had cancer and should be put to sleep. In light of the cat?s young age and seemingly otherwise good general health, we decided to seek a second opinion. We selected Dr. Broderick because of his reputation for treating animals more holistically.\r I obtained the x-ray taken by the first veterinarian that had examined the cat and brought it to Dr. Broderick. Reading the exact same x-ray, Dr. Broderick determined that the cat did not have cancer, and that what appeared to be a mass was actually the cats intestines jammed up into the chest cavity. He asked us if the cat had been hit by a car. That was quite possible since he was an outdoor cat more

Dr. Broderick and Cornucopia are amazing! 1/1/2011

Dear Dr. Broderick and Southdown Animal Clinic Staff,\r \r I want to thank you for the care you have provided my dogs over the last 20 years.\r \r I first met you with Molly, my 11 year old beagle. Diagnosed with terminal liver cancer, Molly was not able to keep food down. I searched for a holistic veterinarian and treatment for canine cancer. My research led me to your practice, one of a few holistic veterinarians in the northeast. I gave Molly your dog food and the Super Food and Phyto Food supplements. She was able to keep food down. Her affect improved considerably. We then gave weekly vitamin C drip therapy. Molly lived a quality life with energy and no pain; she passed when she was 13.\r \r Chessie, my most recent beagle, is almost 16. Abused and neglected her first 2 years, she was rescued and I adopted her. I followed your regimen of combined dry and canned Cornucopia. I sprinkled Super Food and Phyto Food supplements on her food intermittently. Always an athletic dog, I noticed at a more

Thank you Doctor Broderick and Staff 1/1/2011

My two dogs and I had been clients of Dr. Broderick on and off for the past six years. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude that we were, in that moment, BLESSED, to have found this charming, country-like environment where grace and serenity ruled. I, personally, was going through a most trying time, when my beautiful sheepdog became ill with an angry ear infection that was most painful to her; on that day it was almost unbearable for me to handle one more difficult task, and I was a bit frightened of what may have been wrong with her. When I met Dr. Broderick and his staff I was immediately relieved and put at ease, most of all, by the total calm and compassion that was shown to me. My dog was examined with great care and gentleness and I was so moved by it all. Dr. Broderick displayed most unusual kindness, conveyed vast knowledge that he shared with me regarding what was going on with my dog, and ultimately assured me that all will be well beginning NOW. When I later p more

WORST PLACE EVER! 12/21/2010

First off, this Doctor came Highly recommended. Little did they know the only thing he cares about is pushing his ""BRAND NAME FOOD LINE"" Cornucopia. This JERK actually told me the food I was feeding my dog was killing him slowly. So, after the recent IAMS Scare I bought some of his dry food. When I brought it home my dog would not eat it. Then, I brought it back. The good Doctor told me to STARVE THE DOG Until he would be so hungry that he would have NO CHOICE but to eat his crap! There are pictures on the wall with him and Mother Theresa. Do you think she knew he would want me to starve my dog so that the good doctor could make a buck off of me? I don't trust him and importantly I don't like him! I would recommend going somewhere else!!! more

Southdown Animal Clinic and Dr Broderick 11/21/2010

Dr. Broderick displayed most unusual kindness, conveyed vast knowledge that he shared with me regarding what was going on with my dog, and ultimately assured me that all will be well beginning NOW. When I later picked my dog up from a day of treatment that was intense but complete (due to the fact that I was financially unable to afford an overnight stay for her) I was given precise instructions on follow-up care to keep her on the road to complete recovery. Understand for me, that at the end of this particular day, it was the most horrific one in my life. I was distraught and exhausted and most unwilling to bear ONE MORE THING. I got my beautiful dog back and when I went to pay the bill I saw a whole long write-up of what was done to her in treatment of her case. When I looked at the end of the sheet for a grand total I saw the words (written personally) ""Gift from Doc"" I looked at ""Doc"" with utter astonishment, not comprehending right away what that meant. Dr. Broderick just smiled quietly, asked me if I was alright, and told me to just go home, love my children and tend to my dog. When I tearfully asked him why he would ""gift"" all this to me (and a big bag of Cornucopia dog food to boot!), he simply replied with a shrug?Because I can."" Over the course of the next few years, this clinic took care of my two healthy dogs. Always with kindness and exact professionalism. My dogs thrived on Superfood and Phytofood and I must tell you that I am, too -I take these powders daily. I just wanted to express to everyone who has animals they love and care for that there are veterinarians who love and care for them as much as we do, and Dr. Broderick is a most brilliant, shining example of what pure compassion and humanitarianism can look like. more

STAY FAR AWAY 4/26/2009

I normally wouldn't waste my time doing this, but I feel very strongly about advising people to stay away. Here's a list of reasons why: Pros: His friendly APPEARANCE.. key word being appearance. Cons: everything else more

they have a true heart for animals 3/28/2009

We were introduced to this clinic when we adopted a stray cat. They provided reduced care for her exam and having her spayed. They really care for animals and made it feasible for us to adopt a wild, emaciated cat. Now she is a treasured member of our family. Not all vet practices would do this for an animal. more

Stay Away 3/5/2009

I do not recommend Southdown Animal Clinic at all, stay away. Dr Broderick intentionally performed unnecessary tests to raise the bill to more then $1200 for a simple cold. They insisted on using anesthesia to take a simple xray and wanted to charge me more $200/xray. The overall experience was very similar to a visit to a used car lot, where sales person is very pushy and arrogant and just wants to make as much money as possible with no regard for anything else. At southdown animal clinic the Doctor will insist that you purchase his brand of cat food and if you refuse to do so or question any of his inflated fees he gets very defensive and rude. The same attitude follows through to his wife and daughter. Cons: Read my review more

Unethical 2/24/2009

1. Unprofessional. Dr Broderick did not introduce himself nor examine the dog. Did not explain rationale for providing unnecessary and overpriced anesthesia. Used profanity and became irate when we questioned the need and fee for anesthesia.\r 2. Unethical. Known in the area for providing unnecessary medical diagnostic testing. Extraordinary fee schedule for common practices. Proposed bill for surgery was well over $1000 when our vet performed the procedure for $360. 2 Xrays cost us $533\r \r I do not recommend even stepping foot in this office, though I stood there for quite a while before anyone even addressed me. Very disorganized and is recently off suspension for poor record keeping, which I believe he continued to practice through. more

Disorganized office but Dr. Marshall seems like a good vet 10/5/2007

I was new to the area and this practice was recommended to me. I took my cats to see Dr. Marshall, who was very nice and clearly a cat-lover. I would probably take my cats to her again, but my interactions with the rest of the office were less than positive. They were supposed to call me with lab results but didn't, then when I called everything was confusing and I got conflicting stories about whether the tests were actually done or not. Finally I went to the office because I wanted to see the actual test results, and they made me wait half an hour (even though no one else was there). Maybe it was just a bad day for them, but they didn't leave me with a good impression. Pros: Dr. Marshall Cons: Everything else more
