As an African-American my options for laser hair removal are restricted and I learned this the hard way. Before coming to SCMS, I went through two different sets of laser hair removal at Pure Med Spa in Torrance and Kalologie on Robertson Blvd in Los Angeles. Not only was I burned at both spas, but I paid more than a thousand dollars for one area and saw no results! I was convinced that laser hair removal was not for me, which led me to try electrolysis. While the results are permanent, so are the scars that came with the process. With electrolysis, I didn't have the time or money to come in once a week (at $100) for months and months to be zapped. And to top it all off, the pain was absolutely insane and It was taking forever to complete a small area...I imagine it would take years to do full body. So I decided to give laser one more try. This time, I researched the most effective lasers for my skin type instead of Googling spas that had positive reviews. I learned that the Candela GentleYAG was the best option for me, and that SCMS had the laser. During my consultation, I found that the staff members at SCMS were pleasant, knowledgeable and honest. I was told upfront that the LA office didn't have the proper laser to treat my skin type. I agreed to complete my treatments at the Newport Beach office and received a discount for the inconvenience. Five months later I've completed a few treatments and I couldn't be happier! The GentleYAG laser hurts a whole lot less than the other laser I've experienced which is amazing because its extremely effective. I saw drastic results after my first treatment without burns or unbearable pain. I actually drifted off to sleep during my first treatment. The receptionists at the front desk at the Newport Beach office are always warm and friendly and my nurse Courtney is so sweet and patient. She tries to make you as comfortable as possible. I've requested her for all of my treatments. I would definitely recommend SCMS to anyone seeking laser hair removal. The icing on the cake is that the prices are unbeatable. What you'll pay to treat one area at another spa, you'll pay the same thing to treat your whole body at SCMS. I now only shave every few weeks, and its usually really think arbitrary patches. I've extremely pleased with my results and I still have more sessions to go. more

I have to say that I have nothing but positive things to say about South Coast Med Spa. So far, I've had two laser hair removal treatments performed here, and I am extremely happy with my results. I've seen a decrease in hair presence of approximately 20-25 percent in different areas. As an African American female, laser hair removal really wasn't an option for me because of the scarring that occurs with dark skin, but South Coast Med Spa has a laser that is specially calibrated to be used on dark skin with no negative scarring effects. Five years ago, when I looked into it, laser hair removal was not available for me. Today, I have completed my second treatment and my hair is slowly diminishing! \r \r In addition, the front desk personnel and the Physician's Assistants that actually perform the treatments have all been happy to answer all of my questions and have made me completely comfortable during my visits. I ask a lot of questions and not once did I feel like I was being a burden. For those of you who have not had laser hair removal performed before, I highly recommend it. It isn't at all painful, which is not what I imagined, and you notice results after the first treatment. I have four more treaments to go and can't wait to be hair-free! more

Nice staff, clean facility, great location, but, I had 6 laser hair treatments to my chin and upper lip, at first it seemed to be working, but a couple months after the treatments ended, all the hair grew back worse than ever...very disappointed, I wasted gas, time and money.. more

I have been going to Southcoast Medspa for a few months now and I am very happy with the results. They have awesome lasers and it is not painful at all. I have been very happy with the staff and service. I highly receommend them for laser hair removal. more

After doing my research on the lasers they use along with looking at the before and after pictures on their website I was convinced that these guys know what they are doing. I can honestly say it is worth the price and the pain (which is not to bad since they give you numbing cream, but make sure you put it all over your face, missed spots will really hurt) South Coast Medspa changed my life. After just one treatment I saw great results! My face no longer had dark pigmentation spots and deep scars. My face looks and feels cleaner, and even better as the treatment actually lightened my skin tone! Another thing that shocked me was that in my consultation I asked one of the employees if the treatment would help me reduce future acne on my face, his answer was no, but I am fully convinced that since my treatment I have had little or no break outs and seen great reduction in active acne. I am currently trying to set up a second treatment and if the results are anything like the first, I am sure I will be ecstatic. If you suffer from bad acne scars, trust me, you need to try this place out. I can?t begin to tell you how much my confidence has grown since getting this treatment. I literally woke up every morning and ran to the mirror and smiled just by noticing more and more of my significant results. I've had acne problems since my teen years. The scars have affected my self-esteem tremendously. When I finally decided to proceed with laser treatments, I took my time to research the best procedures at the best price. South Coast Medspa charged me about $3000 for two pro-fractional procedures. They expected $100 up front just for the consultation, and the rest I had to finance. When you sign up for the first procedure they give you a bleaching cream that you must use for 6 weeks. I also had a ""consultation"" with their doctor via skype. Never met the doctor...ever. He only prescribed my pain killers and anti-anxiety medication for before and after the procedure. They tell you that it won't hurt...but on a scale of 1-10, it was a horrific 10. I have never felt so much pain in my life. They are literally burning your FACE OFF. BURNING YOUR FACE OFF! If you don't think that's not going to hurt, think again. They make you put on this ridiculous numbing cream...that doesn't do a thing! After my first procedure I looked like a monster. My face was red, and I had blood everywhere. I drove home from Newport Beach that night in pain and asking myself why I had done that to myself. I got codeine for the pain and Xanax for the anxiety. Xanax was the only thing I could use to go to sleep. After the procedure they give you some special creams that are supposed to help your skin heal. The creams were uncomfortable, and did not provide any moisture. I was red for 5 days. After the procedure I got lots of acne outbreaks, but eventually my skin calmed down. I thought my second procedure would be better...but no. The pain got worse, and I sat on that bed wondering why oh why I was doing this again. Do I like my results...absolutely not. My scars are still there...all of them. It is probably 10-20% better. The person who I met with initially said I should see about 50% improvement, if not more. It is all lies. I don't understand why people aren't honest about the real pain of the procedures, and the bad results. If I had to do it again...I would not! We all learn from our personal experiences, and this experience taught me to be realistic and to just accept myself. No procedure will eliminate my scars. I will have them forever. I do not recommend this procedure to anyone. Don't waste your money. The only positive aspect of this whole ordeal was the physician assistants who did the procedures. This is Michael typing here, I am 22 years old from Huntington Beach California. I lived here for many years and I am right next door a city away from Newport Beach of South Coast Medspa. \r \r I've been knowing, watching, learning, waiting for the right time, and I am still very interested in South Coast Medpsa since around 2007 & i finally was able to get my very first treatment in the beginning of 2011. \r \r All who have been helping me out at South Coast Medspa have been very kind, patient (as am I) they know what there doing, & from my eyes of how things are and work here they are trusting. \r \r To show a quick fact of the experience the work for my treatment has been very appealing and helpful. With any of my flaws of my face that i have pointed out for a hopeful improvement of it's texture to be fixed is my want of satisfying results. So far things have been going very well! & in the time of what you must do to take better care of your face and to always help it either buy washing it, sun tan losion always, drinking plenty of water, sleep, good foods, your mind at ease, and etc. of what can show overall of what to accept is to simply easily take care of the skin of your face and be happy for it of you. I learned my lesson to not touch / pick / etc. at your face for any reason, but only to take true care of it. Let it be, breath, and live your life happily of the face. The skin will work with these remedys if you do it all well. We all know our own faces better than anyone and it's the soul of are body & even when people can or can't tell about your flaws if there really any, your the only one that truly knows that.\r \r Of any therapy you can trust of the good for you that you would want, go for it! it will help the pain into your own joy.\r \r To explain though of my situation of my face of what i am looking for to be taken care of is any of my few minimal scars or marks that weren't entirely severe that still go with light white color of my skin, and then maybe one or two that have a some light redish grey bown whatever color to it that i could want to be improved. To me so much of all of this wasn't a huge problem on my face, but was still intrested of having any of it back to a perfect improved skin tone. The one that gets me the most that i created a year back is a light something color mark on my nose from messing with my pores whatever / no reason (laughs) uhhh i learned my lesson. For others it can be from that or acne, an accident, & etc. \r \r All from there of my flaws the laser resurfacing treatment was underway and i pointed out what i was aiming for to be a hopeful improvement of it's texture to be fixed to the want of satisfying results. My day of the procedure went well and right after it, i was told to return in one month and was given helping supplys to treat my face with the first week & weeks. The first week i needed to stay in doors and importantly treat my face with what i was given and a month later now long story short now my results have been satisfying still few things to do and still healing and looking well! which is a good sign! i got some light bownish color square marks here and there of pigmentation but will go away it isn't sever at all and i am given a cream now to take care of ridding it & My! nose light mark if scar lol is still healing up and i think it's gotten better! & my goal is to get that 100% i will not stop till it's the look i want, but right now it looks great! not 100% yet but it's looking good i still see a little what i want away but it's still all healing up & i am just very happy what i was told today a month later of what is going on with my face & the process to get the results i want that i know will happen for me :)\r \r I thank everyone for this & myself for choosing this & go for it!\r \r more will come & i will keep it up to take care of me & my face :D\r \r later\r / more

I am on my final treatments with SCMS and I am extremely pleased. The results are as explained and described in detail. The staff are friendly, professional, courteous and very helpful in arranging appointments and assisting me in prep work prior to treatment. The treatment itself is also as advertised: barely a pin prick and nothing to it. I am very happy with my choice and do certainly recommend SCMS to anyone considering laser removal. Before I started my treatments at SCMS I had done my reseach and consulted with other Laser Hair Removal offices. I called the number associated with SCMS to get some basic information on hair removal and I was surprised that it wasn't someone that could provide me with a pure sales pitch. They answered all of my questions, addressed any of my concerns, and by the time I went into the location in Newport I felt prepared. The office itself is straightforward, they perform a consultation, quote you a price, and for me they even began my treatments immediately. The process used is one with suction and a laser, so it apparently doesn't hurt as much as other methods--not having used anything else I couldn't say whether that statement is 100% accurate, but for me its painless. A pin prick and a slight bit of heat, repeat a few times and I'm done. I would say my treatments last perhaps 15 minutes and the office staff is always courteous and friendly. The technicians seem to rotate based on their shifts, but each of the ones I've used (been through four different appointments) has been cool, friendly, and up front about what's being done and help pass the time with idle chit chat. I've recommended the procedure, and the location, to a handful of family and friends and figured it was worthwhile putting something up for those I don't know. If you're hesitant at all about the procedure, you should check this location out. You won't regret it. more

At first I was skeptical about going to South Coast Medspa to get the laser treatment done on my face. But I am glad that I did it. All the staff are very friendly, respectful, and helpful. I can tell a big difference on the scar of my face after the first treatment. I would recommend anyone to come to SouthCoast Medspa for the laser treatment if you have acne scar on your face. I just completed my third treatment at South Coast Medspa. I had relatively little growth between the second visit and now, mostly just stubble. So far I am very pleased with what I have experienced. There was very little discomfort from the laser itself. They usually increase the strength a half step each time but that depends on your skin tone. I am very hopeful that I the results will be permanent based on what I've seen thus far. In the past when I shaved, the regrowth was very fast. There has been virtually no regrowth since my last visit. I am looking forward to my next treatment which will be in six weeks. more

It MUST be noted that most of these reviews seem like employee planted reviews, which is very discouraging. My husband and I just purchased packages at the LA location so we are not sure about the efficacy of their laser hair removal just yet (rest assured I will give a positive/negative review when the time comes) but I really dislike what I am seeing here and on yelp . com as far as ""user"" reviews go for this company. Please keep it real South Coast Med Spa, or get a little creative. To be specific, click on the reviewer's name and you can see whether they've reviewed more than once (likely they are a real person reviewing) or just that one time (most likely SCMS employee or an actual negative review). more

I had laser hair removal done to my back and neck and am extremely satisfied with the results. After only 6 sessions the hair is pretty much all gone!\r \r Also, the staff was always very upbeat and friendly, which made the experience even better!\r \r I would definitely recommend the treatment and using South Coast MedSpa!\r more

Im a young white male with supposidly perfect skin for this procedure. I was told 40-60% of my acne scars would be romoved but probably only saw 5-10. Which sucks because im still making payments of 200 dollars every month for 18 months to pay off the 3500 which is alot of money. The guy who talks to you is really chill but once you sign the paper he has you locked in believe me! IM A REAL CUSTOMER TRUST ME DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PROCEDURE YOULL REGRET IT! oh yah and the lady blasted me with the high setting to so dont let them tell you it can get higher and better haha this place is a joke with money hungry people Cons: down a week, hurts, blotchy red skin, skin didnt change more

This NEW hair removal machine is awesome. There is NO pain!!!! I had several treatments with the ""old"" machine. However, there was a little bit of pain involved with the old method.
