Pretty Place Needs Management 1/10/2010

Not only was the ""manager"" inattentive to customers [doing laptop] but it was clear that staff is not to interrupt when he is ""in meeting"" even though it was all about his laptop, not business. As a result, staff performance was mediocre overall and upstairs waitress tried to keep us from going downstairs even though it was open. Upstairs is nice coffee shop style only whereas downstairs is very warm and attractive. On coldest day of the year, fireplace could not be lighted by staff and ""manager"" did so only after customer approached and asked him directly [over the resistance of waitress who obviously knew his personal projects were more important than the restaurant]. Optimistic that it will be better next time-too nice a place to go under. Pros: Downstairs very comfortable and attractive. Nice staff Cons: No management and worse more

Great place to chill and watch your favorite college game! 10/24/2009

We went here as a small group to watch the Texas game last evening, wanting to try something new, and admittedly a little hesitant after reading some of the below (quite terrible) reviews. We were not disappointed however, and didn't seem to remotely encounter any of the mentioned problems or ""cons."" The service was actually very consistent and friendly, the bartender was helpful - and it's hard to have a miss with Shiner on draft - the seating was ample and well laid out. The food was DIVINE and very well priced. The guys had the fillet (less than $25 including sides) and each said they really were surprised at the quality of meat and well-preparedness of the meal period, especially for the price. I had the garden salad with house dressing - absolutely amazing with candied walnuts, blue cheese chunks, and fresh crisp leaves of lettuce and spinach - generous portion and worth every penny of the $9 price. The manager (DILLON not David / Daniel) and executive chef (ZACK) both stopped by to check on us and were willing to hear suggestions on what might help them step up their game in a location with such fierce competition - Uptown & the West Village. We sat upstairs, as it seemed more cohesive to watching the game - less crowded and less noisy - but we did go downstairs afterward to sit and have a few drinks, and it's definitely a great place to see and be seen. Very Uptown, very chill, very pretty people. I would suggest this place to anyone. And if you have a problem, have any sort of issue mentioned below, I would recommend speaking with the manager, as he genuinely seemed interested in making Social House one of ""the"" places to go, attracting more people and turning them into regulars. Pros: Food & Drinks, Ambiance, Service, Location - all stellar... Cons: Restrooms are very small, single entry, have to wait... more

Smelled like A@% and the waitress downstairs sucked 7/20/2009

The place did not have air first of all so folks were smelling a bit the shots were 8 bucks and extra with redbull. The blonde waitress downstairs was the worst ever. She kept jumping back and fourth over the counter smacking people in the back with her feet without saying anything.\r I will never go their again unless i have to thow-up Pros: I didn't have to go to the restroom Cons: worst service ever more

drunk bartender girl over charged me 5/27/2009

Went to social house last night with 6 friends. I used to go there when it was nikita and had great times so i wanted to check out the new establishment and all. They had karaoke so we sang and danced, were having a good time. Then i ordered 7 shots of flavored vodka and the bartender girl charged me 8 bucks per shot and $2 extra for red bbull on each one of them. I looked at the reciept and she even added 20% gratuity to it. So my bill came out to be $70 plus $14 gratuity for 7 shots. I asked her why she charged me for red bbull then she casually said, oh im sorry, ill change it. Then i questioned about the gratuity because even after she changed the total amount, the gratuity was still $14. i mean i also work at a bar and i have never added gratuity for drinks just because it was more than 6 people. Then she explained because we were a party of 7, she added the tips. I tried to explain that she needs to fix the amount because the total was different. Then she just threw the receipt and said, ""you know what, just forget it and get the f** outta here"" I was like.......WTF??? Then my friends came up to pay their tabs and she messed up the amount on their receipts as well. I tried to ask her what the heck is wrong with her, and she just kept saying, just get the f*** outta here. I started to lose my patience because she had no reason to yell or tell me to get out. Then she tried to get the barback to kick me out and the barback just shrugged and looked at me..how funny is that? Then my friend got really mad because she told him, ""get your f***ing friend out of here!"" So it kind of got out of control, she stormed out from the bar to follow us and screamed F this F that. The barback then really had to stop us screaming at each other. So i check my bank account and that drunk girl charged me twice! I am going to call the manager to complain and my friends and i will NEVER go back there. Pros: karaoke was fun Cons: awful service more

Great Two for Dinner and a Show 1/10/2009

How can you go wrong with a great meal and walk across the street for a movie at the Magnolia?? We had the sea bass and the 1"" thick pork chop entree...........both were excellent. Nice surpirise to have mussels and shrimp adorn the sea bass. It is well worth the wait to seated on the sidewalk patio...feels like the river walk....great people watching spot. Altholugh this seems to be first a bar we really enjoyed the food. Only negative was that I thought the house wine was expensive for the choice...better off with the martini. Pros: Patio seating. Elaborate entrees for a ""bar scene"" more

Stay clear, shady place 10/6/2008

I was at Social House this past weekend and will never go back and will tell everyone I know never to go there. While waiting downstairs for a drink with a small crowd and slow service, the rude bartender continued to make things worse for the entire bar. The restrooms were blocked off by 2 or 3 large hispanic fellows and reserved only for friends of the same bartender. The thuggish restroom bouncers claimed the toilets were overflowing but this was a very apparent lie to all. The disgusting 1 single-occupany restroom upstairs gathered a long line because of this.\r \r Whoever owns this place needs to get some serious class, this was absolutely ridiculous. Pros: Location, women Cons: Rude service, had to be buds with bartenders to gain access to VIP restrooms more

social house pretty cool 8/30/2008

Pretty good place. I always seem to have a blast. As for being overcharged? What place in uptown dallas isn't expensive, come on dude. Anyways, love the place. I recommend for anyone to just get drunk before you go out and then there you go! Pros: good place Cons: little crowded more

be careful - check your credit card statement/keep your receipt! 7/5/2008

While most of my experiences at the social house have been okay/good, if you are going to go to this place, I would recommend paying cash. One particular bartender charged my tab 8 drinks instead of 6 (I just payed it b/c I was ready to go and didn't feel like messing with it), but he also decided to give himself an additional $20 tip (beyond what we already tipped him) - as he charged my credit card $20 more than the tab + tip was. Thankfully I checked my credit card statement and caught the discrepancy. Lame. Even though this place is only a couple of blocks from me and a place I frequent often, I won't be going back. Pros: good atmosphere Cons: overcharged more

Fun to watch Mavericks Games... 5/12/2008

During the playoffs stopped in for something new, tvs were great and the crowd was fun. Hopefully the stars keep going and I can continue coming to watch my favorite sports! more

GREAT TIME 4/22/2008

The Social House in the West Village is a nice change of scenery. Although I love Taco Diner and Mi Cocina, it's nice to have another option in food. I tried the sliders and I thought they were phenomenal. They were simple yet flavorful. I had the salmon and it was so good. I think it was a special for the day, and I think they really need to add it to the menu. My friends said they enjoyed their entrees also. Our server, Ashley, seemed to be very knowledgeable and was very accommodating. The wine list was a little shorter than I expected but still a decent selection. The Carlos Basso cab was very good. A manager came by (I think his name was Daniel) and asked us about our experience. We told him we loved the place and enjoyed our food and he was kind enough to buy us a round of drinks. We asked where is a fun place to go on a Saturday night and he suggested Candle Room and Clear. My friend asked how the lines were and he told us he would take care of it. And he did. He made a couple of phone calls and we were placed on the lists. I was stunned that in the middle of a busy night, he was still able to cater to our needs. Clear was a very nice place with good looking people and Candle Room was a great place with great service. Social House is a great place to start your night and make sure you ask Daniel to set you up somewhere nice. Thanks and I'll be in there again this weekend! Pros: Food and Service more

Great Atmosphere 4/22/2008

I recently went to the new Social House in the West Village and I must say I am very surprised. I had dinner downstairs (which is very nice) and was not expecting much..seeing how it is a pub. But the food was actually good, very good. Their buffalo calamari is amazing and their surf and turf was even better. The ambiance was very nice and the fireplace was a delightful addition....much better than the old Nikita. The waitstaff was very cordial and attentive. The manager was very gracious as he came by and initiated small talk with us. We asked him where we should continue our wonderful date and he suggested Clear. He was very helpful and was able to put our names on the VIP list which I thought was great customer service. I think his name was David or Daniel. As dinner progressed, more and more people seemed to flood the bars. Although I was with my girlfriend, I found myself staring at all the beautiful young women. I was shocked to see so many of Dallas' best under one roof. The only thing I was not to thrilled about was the crowd. It got so busy in there! It was partially my fault though, seeing how I was eating dinner at 11:00. Overall, I would recommend this to everyone...for dinner and to hang out. (Just make sure you eat dinner a little earlier than I did). Pros: Waitstaff, management, food Cons: A little too crowded after 12:00 more

Finally a place to hang out in West Village 4/1/2008

This place is amazing! I had a great time with all of my friends, eating, drinking, and just hanging out. The place is very chill, food is great, and of course drinks are awesome. The space is a bit narrow downstairs, so it can get a bit crowded at times, but I guess all great places get a bit crowded. I think this will be our new hang out spot in Dallas! Pros: Great food, drinks, and an awesome place to hang out Cons: A bit narrow downstairs so can get crowded on the weekends! more

Needs to do better to make it in West Village! 3/26/2008

I went to Social last Friday night and was disappointed overall. Some friends and I were going to go to Mi Cocina, but the wait was far too long, so we opted to try Social. At first, it was vey pub-like, which is a big change for the normal West Village area. I'm still not sure that I liked it. A large group of 10 of us sat down. It took several minutes for our drinks to arrive at the table. When they did, they ended up all over us as the watress spilled the tray. One of the drinks poured completely over my friend's jacket. I would have thought the manager would at least come over and perhaps offer dry cleaning for it, alas no. The food was ok. Nothing bad, nothing great. Price was about right. When it came time to pay, however, we were told that the check could only be split 4 ways. After a couple moments of arguing with the watiress, we asked for a manager. When the manager came over I called him on his bluff as I design these systems for a living and know that the capabilities of a point of sale system is NOT limited to 4 checks. The manager admitted fault and took our credit cards and we were finally able to leave. I think that Social needs to be more customer oriented if it is going to last longer than a few months here because my first impression wasn't all that great and I probably will NOT recommend it to others. Stick to Taco Diner, Mi Cocina, Tom Tom, and Ferre if you are going to West Village! Pros: Hostess was very friendly Cons: Waitstaff seemed to simply want us in and out as fast as possible. more

Casual dining with a trendy twist 3/13/2008

Food was delicious, every thing I had was cooked to perfection, the staff was very attentive and outgoing. I would take friends there any time for a good time. I did not go with any expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend! Pros: friendly staff and tasty food more

Good atmosphere, I had a great time 3/10/2008

I went to Social House this past Saturday and had a great time. A friend and I arrived at around midnight and were surprised to find that the bar was extremely crowded, since I've heard that it's usually dead in there since it's fairly new. Upstairs smelled too smoky for my taste so we went downstairs to the pub area where it was even more crowded with what seems like older SMU students and SMU grads. If that is not your scene, then I wouldn't recommend this place. Since I belong to the latter category, I didn't mind and had a great time. They played a mix of fun 80's music and some newer stuff, which was a nice change from the trance stuff they play at other ""hip"" hang outs. Overall it was a good experience and I'll definitely be back. The drinks were ok (I'm a simple vodka-tonic drinker myself) but my one gripe is about the bartender. I ordered a vodka and redbull for a friend expecting well vodka, and was charged $12 a drink for Skyy. Since I'm usually laid-back, I said nothing and paid my tab, but thought I should warn everyone else... $12 x 6 well drinks= too much, in my opinion. Pros: Good young atmosphere Cons: bartenders overcharge/wrong drinks more
