Slow repairs 3/27/2014

I've taken my car to Smith Specialty in the past. Overall my experience has been good and they seem pretty fair about their pricing and provide good work. However, I was disappointed with my last visit. I called on Friday about bringing my car in on Monday for some pretty major repairs (oil leak and break work). They told me to bring it in on Monday and they would take a look at it. I brought the car in early Monday and planned to be able to leave the car on Tuesday so they would have plenty of time to diagnose and work on the car. Unfortunately, they did not even bring the car in to diagnose it until the last business hour on Monday and did not call me until late Tuesday morning about their findings. Since they were so slow to look at the car, they needed to keep it a third day, which severely inconvenienced me. It was very frustrating that i called ahead of time about bringing my car in, then provided them two days to do the work, but it still took three days because of their timing. On the positive, their work seems to be good and their price fair. more

Slow and expensive. 3/25/2014

I made an appointment to just have my car looked at. No work done, just a quote. They kept my car for a week before contacting me and charged me around $130 for the quote without taking anything apart or doing any work. more

Computer problems 3/23/2014

My 1999 Dodge Durango needed a new computer to resolve transmission problems. My best advise for people with similar problems would be to let the shop deal with the computer manufacturer. After many hours of troubleshooting, the shop determined that it was the replacement computer that was at fault. The computer store required that the shop perform numerous tests before they would refund the shop's money. If I had purchased the replacement computer on my own, I would have been on the hook for it and one that worked. The good news is that I have one of the cleanest transmissions on the road and that all my wiring is good. more

These guys continue to amaze me. . . 2/21/2014

Took my truck in and found out the issue was the U joints. They put a second person on it and were able to get it back to me the same day. They even noticed one of my headlights that was out of alignment and adjusted it for free. I have used these guys in the past and they are alwasy very helpful. I am even starting to use them for my oil changes. Highly recommented. more

Smith's worked on my 300CE Mecerdes Coupe and always did a great job. I still have it but also just acquired a vintage 500SEL. I was preparing to take it on its innagural road trip and needed some things done first. They couldn't get me in on Friday, I was leaving town Saturday morning, but Bill proactively took it in his own hands and asked if I could come in first thing Saturday, which I did! Not only did they fix my headlight switch, but I'd asked Bill to look at a belt noise. Turned out, it was an tension unit issue. Bill found the part, had it delivered in an hour and still got me back on the road at the same time he'd promised for just my switch. And I was headed for my best friends surprise birthday part, 2.5 hours away, so time was important on that day! Thanks Bill, thanks, Dave, thats a great place! more

Kept on troubleshooting 2/8/2014

1999 Jeep would not start consistently. Initially thought it might be something in battery or starting system due to severe cold weather. Turned out to be a faulty neutral safety switch. Expensive part but the car starts fine now. Service was done on time and within quoted cost. more

This was my first visit to the shop and I was very impressed with the customer service. Very honest, fair prices, and explained everything in a way I could understand. I liked that they told me what was necessary to get fixed now, and what was recommended to get done - and then didn't pressure me to get the "suggested" services. more

Went back and received great service as before. I like that they give me options on repairs and let me know the pro's and con's as well as the costs. Makes me feel like they are paying for the repairs themselves... Great business. more
