Bad bad bad 7/17/2008

They add a healthcare surcharge onto your bill along with a note saying that they are proud to provide healthcare to their workers. I think that's great. I think everyone should have health coverage. What they don't tell you is that they are actually suing the city over it's new universal healthcare program. I hate to think that they are using my money to take away people's health care . more

Good Food but Poor Service 4/30/2007

Yes, Slow Club has good comfort food - turkey sausage hash for breakfast and hamburger for lunch. However, be prepared to tolerate poor service from the host and waitstaff.\r \r Case in point: The host will take your name but only call it once inside the restaurant before moving on to the next party. I had advised her that we were waiting outside as the waitlist crowd had spilled from inside to the sidewalk outside. Therefore, several parties, who chose to wait inside, jumped the queue ahead of those waiting outside. When this issue was raised, the host was dismissive. Upon being seated, be prepared for slow service. The waitstaff is stretched thin so they don't come by as often to refill drinks, etc.\r \r Go for the food, not the service. Pros: Parking, Prices Cons: Service more

Breakfast just off the beaten path 11/20/2006

I recommend the turkey sausage hash, but everything on the menu is familiar and tasty. Moderately priced, always a place to park, and almost never a line. How many other breakfast spots in SF can you say that about? more

Brunch was ok, not as expected 10/24/2006

I was there for brunch one day. The salad was excellent, loved it. Other than that, food overall was ok. Did not impress me much. Pros: Service Cons: Parking, neighborhood more

Good spot for brunch 7/5/2006

I've been to that place 3 times, each time for brunch. I like the decor, the ambience, the food. I've tried many things with friends, all tasty; but my favorite is the hamburger. I crave for hamburger on week-ends and that one is good, fries are crunchy. Ceasar salad is recommended too, i always asked for the sauce on the side because they put a lot of sauce. Pros: Good food, nice ambience, pretty decor Cons: Noisy when crowded more

great american cuisine 6/27/2006

i love the slow club, the food is fresh and flavorful. it is the one resturant where i feel like it belongs in nyc. it is in an rather quiet industiral area, and when you enter the place, it is just hopping. i go for the food and the great drinks, they make good stiff cocktails and my favorite is the margarita, i think they make the best in town. fresh squeeze lime and no mix. try this place you will feel like you are in another city. Pros: great food more

Best Bartender 6/27/2006

This is a very, very good restaurant. But an even better bar - perhaps too small, but friendly, cool, excellent service, and great people. Torre is the best bartender in San Francisco! Pros: Excellent food, better bar, very good service Cons: a bit out of the way unless you're in the Mission or at KQED. more

Awesome Dinner! 5/9/2006

The food and service completely exceeded my expectations. The cocktails were deeelicious, and food was perfect. Okay, the homemade fettucine was a bit lacking; they didn't use enough eggs in the pasta and not nearly enough sauce/oil so all the noodles were really doughy and stuck together in one big knot. But the burger was outstanding, perfect fries, and I highly recommend the flat bread. Service was friendly and attentive, and I saw nothing but happy customers eating all around us. Highly recommend, very good value, tasty, friendly! Pros: Friendly, attentive, Easy parking, Tasty & good value Cons: homemade pasta ;-(, can get a bit loud more

Consistent, creative menu that won't dissappoint 3/6/2006

Solid, consistent and creative menu that doesn't dissappoint...With a menu that changes daily you can count on some sort of rockin' pasta, a fish or two, a chicken dish and usually a steak, pork or lamb concoction. In recent visits I've had an awesome pork loin on a fenel rissotto and a golden crispy skinned chicken on top of the most insane gorgonzola red wine rissotto which I'd go back for in a heartbeat...I even check the menu online as it seems updated daily as well. Plus the unpretentious wine list offers up wines you'll see around town at twice or three times the price...so you feel like a winner just being there. more

Still Great 3/5/2006

I've been going to the Slow Club regularly for 3 years and it consistently serves wonderful food at a reasonable price. Great Burger, great drinks and a cool atmosphere. The service can leave a little to be desired, but the overall experience makes up for it. Negative reviews be damned. Pros: Awesome Food more

The worst dining service experience of my life 1/11/2006

I had wanted to try the much-talked-about burger. What a disappointment. The patty is far too small for the oversized bun. The spread of ""aoli"" on the bun is over-the-top. But the worst part was the service! I have never been treated so rudely before in my entire life by restaurant staff. The server was condescending when I asked for a condiment, saying ""didn't you read the menu? It's already on there."" Then they told us ""yes"" when we asked if a late-comer could be accomodated. When my friend arrived and asked for water, the server, visibly annoyed, handed him my water! That was just the beginning. I would never go back here. The staff treated us so badly that I was humiliated as were my friends. None of us had ever received such intimidating and rude service. Pros: location Cons: service more

Quality food at a quality price. 1/3/2006

Upscale casual, but you pay for it. Also, very weak (non-existant) vegetarian/vegan options. Has a very nice quiet (even when packed) and candle lit atmosphere. Staff is always friendly. Bartenders seem to be universally skilled and quick. No light beer though; beware! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Bar Cons: Pricey, Not Vege friendly more

Decent food, average service, good atmosphere 12/2/2005

I've dined at Slow Club several times and generally the experience has been positive, meaning the right combination of food, price, service, and atmosphere. We dined there again last evening and the experience was not as positive as previous ones. The hostess barely acknowledged us when we walked through the door. After she finally finished her conversation with her co-worker, she marched us to a table and huffed away. No have 'have a nice dinner' or anything. Doesn't management train its staff on customer service? Our waitress was a little better in terms of attitude, but rushed us through the meal which we did not like. Our food was good (pot roast, black bass), however the codcake appetizer was very disappointing. Overall I would return b/c I like the atmosphere, however management needs to do a quality of service check with the staff. Pros: good food, easy parking, nice atmosphere Cons: loud, rude staff more

Ok place if service is not important 7/31/2005

Good place to go for good food at a reasonable price. But, definitely not recommended if good service is important to you or if have special diet needs such as food allergies or need to deviate slightly from the printed menu because servers tend to not be very tolerant or helpful in these circumstances. Pros: Reasonable prices, parking Cons: Unhelpful Service, no reservations more

Slow 7/20/2005

The crowd turned out older than I thought (after reading the reviews). Mid 30's. I came in for dinner and the combination of ambience & music was great. I didn't have to wait long for a table. The food took a very long time to come out, but it was great nonetheless. I wouldn't recommend this spot for a first date but going for dinner with a signficant other or friend, is perfect. Pros: great food, ambience, good music Cons: Loud, long wait for food more

The best burger in SF... 5/15/2005

I love this place. It has a cool vibe...yet not stuffy, very reasonable prices, great drink selection and most importantly...delicious food! My fiance and I went this past Saturday and had a great time. Since they don't take reservations, we waited for our table at the bar (about 30 minutes). When we were seated, we ordered the butter lettuce salad, burger and fries and mahi mahi. DELICIOUS. The burger alone would bring us back again. I can't wait to try their brunch! Pros: great food, friendly service Cons: could be long waits, loud, parking more

Dream Dinner 3/29/2004

10:30 pm, my husband and I pulled up and parked right in front of the door, walked in and were immediately escorted to our table. It was a promising start to an excellent meal. The only problem was that by this time of night the bar was pretty packed and so it was deafeningly loud... could not hear a word he said unless he spoke right in my ear. But once the food came it didn't matter, because I was more intent on my trout than on his conversation! typical cal cuisine, but so well done... trout with white beans and red pepper aioli, he had seared ahi with lentils and tomato chutney. started with cara cara , fennel and olive salad and an antipasti plate. for dessert we shared a plate of fries... how could you skip them?! Pros: PARKING!!!, great service, serve late Cons: , accoustics more
