You don't have to eat here.. But yes, the food aint bad as well. Still - the beer, the people and the show is the reason why people love this place... Pros: nice atmosphere ...

Worst

I guess the people who gave this a 9 or 10 must work there. I would have to be real drunk to be convinced the burger I spent 7 bucks on was anywhere near good. The piano player an...

nice place to have some beers 3/12/2009

You don't have to eat here.. But yes, the food aint bad as well. Still - the beer, the people and the show is the reason why people love this place... Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: you need to find a free seat ;) more

great food and drinks and great service! 3/16/2008

we visited sloppy joe's a few times a great place to eat and drink at night it was really crowded and the other time we went it was more comfortable, not so noisy and crazy, but always consistent! more

Papa is turning in his grave 12/26/2007

This place is expensive, has lousy food/slow service, and talentless and often flat-out offensive entertainers. Went there while on Christmas vacation this year (2007) and left after 15 mins because two morons on stage were drinking beer and singing about blow-jobs and foreskins. Disgusting and dumb. Won't be back if it's the last bar on earth. Pros: none Cons: horrible entertainment, expensive, slow service, unpleasant atmosphere more

Ode to Papa Hemingway 7/9/2007

Yes it's crowded, yes it's noisy, yes it's expensive, yes it's not for kids, yes it's in Key West so what does one expect? This is a very busy, touristy place to go and just have FUN! I thought the Sloppy Joe's were really good, no this is not prime rib but it was good bar food. The drinks and food are expensive but this is a tourist trap and that's what one should expect to pay. The music was really good and everyone in the bar was having a great time. I highly recommend if you are in Key West to stop in and drink a cold one in memory of Papa. Pros: Fun place to drink, good live music, friendly bartenders and servers Cons: Expensive and crowded but hey it's Key West! more

Fun any night of the week 1/22/2007

Great live bands, and or DJ music, bar was packed even on a Tuesday night. Full bar, with very nice bartenders, making strong drinks! Fun atmosphere, with 'interesting' people to check out.. more

The tourst must stop 11/5/2006

You won't find many locals at SJ's, It is a must stop for visitors, usualy have a decent band/singers featuring mostly Parrot head music (Jimmy Buffet). Pretty much packed between 4pm and 12am, then dies out... Pros: Great place to meet other visitors Cons: expensive drinks, crowded more

Thanks Kelly:) 5/9/2006

We had a great time here. Drinks weren't cheap, but very few things are in KW. My Sloppy Rita was great and so was our Sloppy Joe. Kelly was an awesome bartender and we met nice people. Pros: Service, Entertainment, Atmosphere Cons: Can be expensive more

Great Afternoon Atmosphere 7/14/2005

I lived in Key West and Sloppy Joe's was one of my favorite places to stop by on a Sunday afternoon. Love the open-air building, wonderful Hemingway collectibles to look at, great entertainment and cold beer. You can always count on having a great conversation with someone next to you at the bar. Can't wait to return. Pros: Atmosphere, People Cons: Cruise crowd more

We go back every time we're there 5/29/2005

My wife and I have visited Key West several times and one of the highlites of our trips is going to Sloppy Joes. You can't beat the atmosphere or the entertainment. The food is what it is - bar food - not bad, not great, but edible. Pete and Wayne are fantastic and the rest of the acts are nearly as good. We would definitely recommend it. more

Get it Right 5/19/2005

The review saying Sloppy Joe's was not Hemingway's fav bar and that Captain Tony's was is a half truth. SJ's was located around the corner from it's current location when Ernest drank there (where Tony's currently sits). It was however Sloppy Joe's bar that he drank at. As far as the bar itself, know what to expect going in... It's crowded, noisey, a little expensive, and not all the food is gourmet. However, it's also one of the most fun places on the island, guaranteed to have a great time when Pete and Wayne are playing (very R-rated). Good music, good company, and good drinks make up for a lot in my book. Also, to all of the food critics out there, try the Sloppy Fries and Grouper Sandwich next time, excellent! Pros: Music (Pete & Wayne), Atmosphere, Grouper/Sloppy Fries Cons: Slightly Expensive, No seats sometimes, Daytime cruise crowds more

I'd Go Back 1/28/2005

We enjoyed lunch at Sloppy Joe's. A little crowded due to the cruise crowd but we were served right away. Had the chicken wraps and they were huge (1 feeds 2 people) and delicious. Live music was really good. Whether this is a "tourist trap" or not it's worth stopping in when in Key West. It's fun. more

Go to say you've been there 10/2/2003

It's a place to go because everybody that goes to Key West goes there at least once. It is not a place to stay though. The food edible, but expensive, service is slow, drinks are also expensive, but hey, we don't go to KW to save money now, do we? more

WONDERFUL!!! 5/6/2003

Hi to Pete A. and thank you to his roomate for letting me try to call him. I went in during the day with a group of high school teenagers after docking from a cruise and the atmosphere was fantastic. We all loved. We thought it was great, wished we could have stayed longer. Pros: Fun, Lively, Friendly more

Bad food 5/6/2003

I guess the people who gave this a 9 or 10 must work there. I would have to be real drunk to be convinced the burger I spent 7 bucks on was anywhere near good. The piano player and sing along is what keeps this place open. The food was pricey and BAD. The drinks were expensive but ok. I just can't believe anyone that has eaten there would give it a 10. I went with a group of 8 and no one out of the 8 got anything that tasted good! Pros: piano player, funny drunks, piano player Cons: FOOD, FOOD, FOOD more

Sloppy Joe's 3/28/2003

The atmosphere at Sloppy Joe's was fun, but the food was pretty bad (stay away from the chicken salad!) and I paid almost $7.00 for a 12 ounce pina colada! more

Not Hemingway's favorite bar 12/21/2002

Captain Tony's was Papa's favorite bar, Sloppy Joes is a tourist trap, so so drinks and food and loud music. Talk a walk over to Captain Tony's you will thank yourself! Cons: Sound system, poor service, high prices more

Hemmingway would be proud 12/11/2002

Awesome food and great atmosphere! Must stop and see the live bands that play. Pros: great drinks, great bartenders, great food Cons: can be crowded more

get it your way 12/11/2002

If you want bar food you could get anywhere, then this is your place. Sloppy Joe's food is passable, but that's all. You shouldn't eat here while in Key West. Cons: no happy hour, over-priced drinks, like any other hole more

Back Home Atmosphere 11/21/2002

Being from New Orleans, La., Sloppy Joe's made me feel right at home. Smiling faces and upbeat music makes it a fun place. more

A fun place! 6/3/2002

This was a really fun place with GREAT food! The entertainment of Pete and Wayne kept us laughing until we hurt! However, they are quite X-rated so it's time to leave when they come on if you have kids with you. A MUST SEE Key West tradition!! more
