Slocum House or Slowcum House 8/23/2003

Lost ticket? Forgetful server? The only thing that paid attention to us without a hitch were the chickens running free on the patio! Prices were what we expected at $75 each for dinner, but either the kitchen staff or the servers were missing something. My wife and I waited an hour for our entree, and when it did arrive it was sent back because the NY Steak was overcooked and my Seared Halibut was like jerky. The patio setting is nice, friday night jazz band was excellent with remnants of the Tommy Dorsey Band and the town of Fair Oaks is very cute. If it is a very special evening though, we'll try somewhere else next time Pros: great story, nice patio, friday jazz Cons: slow service, over rated food, little parking more

The Slocum House is by far the best restaurant in Sacramento. I have to say with that kind of service I felt like a king! I could not believe the excellent customer service from the hostess, my server and busser. If you read this Slocum House employees, keep up the good work! Oh yeah, the dinner was good too! Wonderful Restuarant 11/18/2002

WOW, three letters to describe my experience at the Slocum House. First things first, the service was excellent. Started out with a welcoming hello from the hostess, and seated at a lovely candle lit table. Our server was great, it was a wonderful birthday for me,I even had a special dessert made just for me from my husband. The food was excellent as well, my husband had the filet and I had the lamb, with a calamary app. Yum Yum! The resturant manager was a little on the weird side but he must be doing something right because the Slocum House was great! Help Wanted: Capable Service Staff 11/12/2002

The service has declined in the last year. We're waiting for service to improve before returning. The final straw: having only one busser during lunch. Wait staff were not concerned with the lack of service. The Chicken with Spinach and Bartlett Pear Salad is great on a summer day. Other favorites--Rock Shrimp Thai Salad. Outstanding Brunch 11/8/2002

We went to SH's Sunday Brunch and were pleasantly surprised! The meal starts with a trip to the buffet bar, full of fresh fruit and delectable pastries. The quality of the entrees was excellent! I had the Mushroom-Seafood Crepes, which were filled with shrimp, ahi tuna, and salmon. My wife had the Champagne Poached Salmon, which was unbelievably good. We highly recommend it! We subscribe to Sacramento magazine and for our anniversary thought we would try the winner of the most romantic restaurant award. We enjoyed an excellent meal in pleasant surroundings but it was almost ruined by dreadful service and incompetant staff. From the wrong directions over the phone, the lack of civility from the hostess, to the waitress who ignored us and brought us the wrong food the experience was poor to say the least. Both the hostess and the waitress bordered on rude and unhelpfull. Reading the other reviews its obvious several people have had similarly bad experiences wit the staff. The food is worth the visit, not the best in town by any means, but you take pot luck when it comes to service. Overall it was a decent experience, but disappointing considering the high expectations of this restaurant, since it allegedly is one of the best in the area. We have been to Slocum House numerous times and have always left very happy! When we have a special occasion, we know we can go there. They food is excellent as well as the atmosphere! more
