Shogun is my favorite sushi resturant and I have had sushi in a number of places in Kansas City, San Diego, Irvine, Chicago, basically anywhere I go for travel. Andy is the most ...

Do Not Go!! 4/15/2012

The food was not great- I had the steak and scallops and you could see through the steak, it was so thin- the scallops where sliced up and really overcooked. I had a valid coupon from the entertainment book, which they refused to take. The older asian manager threw the coupon at my 12 year old daughter, hitting her in the face. The male waiter and cook were fine, but the female staff and management were arrogant and beligerant. Do not support this business. There are too many deserving ones out there!! more

Bad food and false advertising 4/13/2012

We bought a 2012 Entertainment Book, which Shogun is listed in, and we thought we would try them out. First of all, the ad in Entertainment states buy one dinner entree and get the second entree at a discount (up to $19); the only thing this excludes is sushi and bento. We ordered two dinner entrees: one was the shrimp and scallops with fried rice; the other was sashimi. The scallops were slice in half, possibly in thirds, to the point that they were as thick as a quarter; and only six to eight total, so really about 3 real scallops. The shrimp was meager as well. This dinner was almost $25 with the fried rice. The sashimi didn't come with anything on the side, no rice, noodles, or anything. This was almost $20. In addition, we ordered a squid salad for almost $5, a Sapporo beer, and an ice tea. Our total bill was $62. We handed out Entertainment card to the waitress, and she advised us it would not be valid on our order because we did not order two dinner entrees: she stated the sashimi was excluded because it was sushi. For one, sashimi and sushi ARE NOT THE SAME THING. Just because it is raw does not make it sushi. Sushi has vinigered rice while sashimi does not. So despite the advertisement, we had to pay the full $62, not to mention the food was mediocre to say the least. The only good thing was the server was decent. We will not be back; I plan on contacting Entertainment to have them contact Shogun. Good God! They are a Japanese restaurant for goodness sake! Shouldn't they know the difference between sushi and sashimi! more

Don't recommend this place. 4/1/2008

I'm originally from Japan and thought this place was good about two years ago. Last couple of times their food was bad with old fish and service wasn't good, either. Prices seemed to have gone up. I don't plan to visit this place any more. more

Bad attitude, bad food, fast sitting. However it's worth to wait at another place. Part-1 10/19/2007

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant for the first time on a Friday night. All other places had a waiting time of over 45 minutes so we decided to give it a try. Surprisingly , ShoGun?s parking lot was almost empty which we figured out later was for good reason. We got seated very quickly and got our drinks almost immediately. This was the only enjoyable part of the evening. When the chef arrived and announced ?see ya tomorrow? in regards to the fact that I like my steak well done kind of stunned me. I know that some people are trying to be funny, but it did not come out right in the beginning. Throughout the process he was still making rather rude comments. I had a feeling that I had personally and seriously offended his entire family. For instance when I was ?consulting? with my girlfriend about nature of the sauces he interrupted me with the question ?why I don?t like it?. Hmm, let me see. Because I did not have any food on my plate and I did not have a chance yet to try it out before I establish whether I like it or not. I can understand that the restaurant is slow and you don?t make as much money, but the best advice I can give to you is to find another job. If I am spending $50 bucks on the dinner of two the least I should expect is not to be interrupted by smart *ss comments from the cook and not to feel guilty about making him work on Friday evening. The last straw was when I asked to pour soya sauce on my food, he replied with the comment -?Of course, it?s free anyway?. That?s pretty much concluded my already not so good mood for the night. more

The Best Sushi Bar None. 2/11/2007

Shogun is my favorite sushi resturant and I have had sushi in a number of places in Kansas City, San Diego, Irvine, Chicago, basically anywhere I go for travel. Andy is the most technically skilled sushi chef whose food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. He doesn't have a ton of crazy rolls (he does have a few such as the Crown Royal) but compare the skill and love that goes into his rolls against any other sushi place and you will be hooked. Pros: The food is fantastic Cons: You pay for what you get more

We travel to do an art show every year near Lenexa and we always have lunch at Shogun. It's a fun experience. The chefs are so entertaining and the food has never let us down. Pros: Inexpensive, Japanese Beer more

Best Sushi and Teppan in KC 4/19/2004

This place is so fun! Sushi was great, and the teppan chefs are wonderfully entertaining! The service is superb, everyone is so friendly. Every time I come out to KC I make sure to visit Shogun. It's really not that expensive if you consider that you are getting a show in addition to your food! The tricks the chefs do are great for adults and kids alike. more
