LOVES IT SO MUCH 9/7/2009

This is one of my favorite places to eat, ever. The food is amazing, the ambiance is awesome and entertaining and informative all at the same time, and the owners are really nice and are there often. They have their own beer, Sherpa Ale, which is [i wish i could drop the f-bomb here] awesome and I never go there [even when I just pick up a call in order] without grabbing a Sherpa Ale. And I love to over-order and eat it cold and/or warmed up, its so good. Pros: everything; sherpa ale! owners. Cons: n/a more

nepal is not india 6/19/2009

why is boulder the only place in the world where indian tibetan and nepalese food is thought of as one food, WRONG. Im Indian and know for a fact that nepalese people do not use half the spices we do i india, and its like saying french food is same as spanish food because they share a border,WRONG more

great food, amazing atmosphere 2/17/2008

I absolutely love going to Sherpas, especially for their lunch special. I always ask for the food to be spicier because Nepalese food is much milder than I'd like, but it is always delicious. The staff is friendly and you can always get great mountaineering stories from them. Highly recommended! more

So much good Indian food in Boulder and this is not it 8/5/2007

I love indian food, both nothern and southern. Himalayan food is very much related to northern indian food or is it that northern indian food is very much related to himalayan food??? Either way, it is delicious.\r \r So I've been around this town long enough that I still miss Nancy's but I am always willing to try new Indian food. So I went to Sherpa's for lunch with a friend and it is still the same quirky layout of an old house. I ordered the Aloo Gobi, I think this is a simple standard dish, very popular. I also ordered Garlic Naan and some Chai. I do not remember what my lunch date ordered, sorry. The food was okay and I do not remember anything negative about the service so in all it was okay. Indian food is about the spices and potato and cauliflower without spices is bland.\r \r The problem I have is that Himalays (best chai on the planet) down the street and Tandori Grill in south Boulder both have better food. So unless you are looking to eat Indian/Himalayan food outside or in a quirky house there are better choices in this town. Pros: Quiet location Cons: It may be just me but I do not like Indian food on an outdoor patio. Not good for large parties. more

Intresting dinner 11/20/2006

I went to this place a couple night ago for a friends b-day party. I myself have never been there, so I had no expectations about it. The food was decent, a nice blend of Tibetan and Indian. It might of been cause it was a big party, but the service was so so, bordering on the slow part. The redeaming feature of this place is the location and ambiance. The place is in a house, near Pearl Street walking mall. I am willing to give this place a second chance, this time with a date. Pros: Nice ambience, good location Cons: slow service, so so food. more

NOT the best Indian food...not the best any kind of food 9/1/2006

My husband and I ate at Sherpa's last night, hoping that it deserved the 9.1 rating that it got on this site. Anyway, we were thoroughly disappointed. The service was okay, but the food simply did not taste like Indian food. We ordered our usual Chicken Tikka Masala ""spicy"", but the dish did not have ANY spice at all and lacked the wonderful tandoori flavor that we've grown accustomed to with this dish. And the chicken itself was flavorless and tough. We also ordered the vegetable curry ""spicy"", and again, no spice! And this dish actually tasted a little like Chinese food. Nothing against Chinese food, but we came to this place to eat Indian! We will not be going back. We did think that their naan was good, but it's not a good sign when the naan was the best part of our dinner! Pros: interesting building--old house Cons: hard to find parking on the weekend, close to Pearl Street Mall more

Never Disappointing! 4/30/2006

I have been to Sherpa's countless times, with one to six people, and never with a bad experience. The food is actually Nepalese and Indian, and Sherpa's serves Yak. It is a great place to go for vegitarian or vegan (fewer options) eating as well. The value is amazing--it is a moderately priced place sit-down dining place, amazing for Pearl! Their wine list is pretty bad, I have to admit. However, it is not trying to be a fine wine dining experience, so it's okay as long as you know in advance. Pros: food, price, cute house setting Cons: plumming, wine selection more
