Shara Makeup Studio

I googled for hours and hours looking for a great makeup lesson. I'm SO glad I found Shara. She was well worth all of my research. Some background on me: I'm in my 30s, not exactly a makeup junkie (but love all things beauty), and a NYer for 17 years. I've been to what seems like every counter in Bloomingdales, Saks, Lord and Taylor, Sephora to learn some pro tips for applying makeup. I ended up with no real knowledge and a plethora of makeup I never even touched :( All that is different now since I finally had an amazing makeup lesson with Shara. She analyzed exactly what I really wanted to learn, and really understood me. We went over skincare, makeup colors, and then finally, technique. She was incredibly patient and just a beautiful artist. I don't think I'll be doing my makeup as perfect as Shara in the near future, so for major events, I'll still book her..but, I feel confident that I will be doing my makeup at least 70% better than I used to-on a daily basis. I am glad I brought my makeup case with the products I use most, because Shara also gave me an idea of what I should be using and what I could be throwing away. I also LOVE the products and brushes I purchased from Shara after my lesson. The brushes were awesome quality and MUCH cheaper than I could find in Sephora. The makeup looked like it was made for me, and again, was relatively inexpensive. I got the most amazing colors! Oh, and I went out the night of the makeup lesson with a girlfriend who couldn't believe how amazing my skin and eyes looked. I think a true test of great makeup is the girlfriend test! Shara! I just wanted to say thank you for an amazing job on my makeup at the wedding. I felt absolutely beautiful and looked flawless throughout the night. My mother and maid of honor were so pleased with their makeup and honestly, they never looked better! Everyone at the wedding was complimenting our makeup! I know I expressed concern before the wedding about my makeup not lasting throughout the day and night, but I could not believe how long the makeup lasted! I looked just as fresh at 2am as I did when you just did my makeup! I have honestly never felt so perfect, and it's all thanks to you and your talent! Not only did your amazing makeup skills make me feel beautiful, but your down-to-earth, positive personality made getting ready for my wedding so relaxing and enjoyable. I've been looking for a makeup lesson to teach me the colors I should be using, and some tips for every day application. I thought it would be fun to bring my Mom with me, so we could both have a lesson. The first thing I loved was when I received an email back within 10 minutes. When we went to Shara's place for the makeup lessons, I felt very excited that it was a friendly environment. I felt like Shara was a girlfriend, and she even made my mother feel at ease. The lessons went great! Shara showed us how to apply makeup to each feature, and then let us apply makeup ourselves, with her patient guidance. I have posted notes from my lesson on my bathroom mirror and I have gotten SO MANY COMPLIMENTS! My mom said she finally learned how to do a good base, and discovered that she could use colors she never thought of, like bronze and lilac. Another plus, is that my Mom and I were able to order makeup directly from Shara. We felt at ease that the right makeup was ordered (instead of blowing so much money on products I'll never use from the department stores!) We received the products within a few days. This was such a treat for us and we will be telling everyone who wants to look a little better to CALL SHARA! more

Wow, two days later and I am so happy I had a professional makeup lesson with Shara. I am a NYer in my mid 30s. Like so many of my friends, I spend so much money of beauty products and never really had the training on how to apply makeup and what was right for my skin complexion and type. Working with Shara was such a pleasure. Her place is so beautiful and calming. She makes it such a great environment, with candles and music. It's definitely not a factory approach to beauty. She is incredibly patient and has such a wonderful spirit. We started by talking about skin care and she let me know what I should be doing and what products would work best for my skin. Then, she took me to the makeup chair, where we took a look at what I had been using. Shara, then step by step took me through an everyday makeup look and actually made me mimic what she was doing on one side of my face. She is a great teacher! She then showed me how to make the makeup more dramatic for nights and events. I walked out with an amazing makeup look, and she even gave me great tips for my hair. When I went home to my husband, he LOVED it! That was the cherry on top for me. This was the best money I've spent on a beauty service. Hands down! more

OMG!! I really do not have enough good things to write about Shara, and the ladies at Makeup for You. Professional, upbeat, so talented...simply AMAZING artists. I was married a little under a month ago at The Pierre and wanted to feel no stress when it came to beauty on my wedding day. I had 14, YES 14 bridesmaides PLUS six family members who needed hair and makeup. Shara was a great organizer and had two of the best artists there to help her! We didn't even run off schedule. Everyone's makeup and hair was picture perfect! As for Shara's makeup, my skin has never looked better. I don't think there is an artist out there who can blend skin the way Shara can. She made my skin look like velvet and the pictures are amazing. She uses very high end products and never skimps out on quality. Jaqueline did my hair and it turned out exactly the way I imagined! A lot of my girls wanted smokey eyes, with lashes and I did not recieve any complaints. All I can say is, if you are looking for makeup/hair for your wedding, give these ladies a call!! more

I could not have been LUCKIER when I called this morning for a last minute appointment for TODAY! I woke up in a bit of a funk and had an important lunch meeting. I've always been afraid of makeup artists making me look ultra dramatic, but Shara did amazing makeup! Glowy, soft smoky colors, PERFECT blending. I FELT AMAZING. I loved how she used Armani foundation and the cargo bronzer I love. I also love Nars and Bare Escentuals, and she used all the best products. The makeup took place at Shara's on the upper east side and we just chatted and laughed for most of the time. I had a few lashes on each eye and felt like I was on a mascara commercial! haha. Shara is a total class act, with TALENT! I think she would made anyone feel beautiful and ultra confident. more

I called Shara a few weeks ago after an internet search directed me towards her business. My daughter Samantha is having her Bat Mitzvah at the end of the month, and Shara will be doing makeup for my three daughters, my mother, and myself. I found Shara to be a total sweetheart, amazing to deal with, very well priced, and quite professional. We did a trial with my daughter and myself. She made me look and feel beautiful, and made my daughter look and feel gorgeous. Shara has a talent of knowing and judging the exact right type of makeup and colors to select for each woman she works on. She is a true artist! We feel very lucky to have her booked for our event. more

Everything always works out the way it's meant to. I had my makeup scheduled with another makeup artist who cancelled on me two weeks before my wedding! I located Shara and called her. What a pro! She handled EVERYTHING and I scheduled my trial! I was sooo much happier with my makeup by Shara than the other artist. Seriously, all makeup artists are NOT created equal. The day of my wedding, Shara made everyone sooo happy, including my hard to please Mom and not so easy to please Mother in Law. The makeup stayed from 12 PM all the way till 2 AM, when I washed it off (sadly). My makeup was just amazing, I got so many compliments all night. The lashes she put on me made ALL the difference. Pros: I had my dream wedding makeup done by the best girl around! Cons: Not a one! more

I had the most amazing time at my wedding (May 22nd, 2010) and never felt so beautiful. Much of it was in thanks to Shara and Scarlett at Makeup for You. Seriously, I never could have imagined my makeup coming out so amazing. All day, people came up to me and told me how stunning I looked. Shara listened to me closely and made me feel so comfortable with her. I feel like she was like a sister and whenever I got the least bit nervous, she knew exactly what to say and how to act. The lashes put on me and my bridesmaides and my mom MADE the makeup. The girls were so professional and everything ran on time. From the moment I met Shara, I knew I was going to love her! She was so welcoming. I was so nervous about my trial, but after reading these reviews, I knew I would be in great hands. She listened to my concern and then did a fantastic job. I actually booked her before I left! My fiance thought I looked great when I came home. I am so glad I searched here for makeup artists. I am a 40 year old female, who has unfortunately seen some signs of the aging process, as we all do eventually. I started communicating with Shara to do makeup for an event I had last month. I just wanted to look natural, but great. Shara is so patient and gentle when it comes to makeup application. She is very big into blending and her makeup looks better than the airbrushing I've see in magazines. I couldn't be happier to find such a gem. Her individual lash application is also flawless! They look so real and natural, I wish I could have them all the time. Pros: Great looking makeup! more

I didn't want a factory approach for my wedding. I didn't go to Klenfields for my dress ( knew that they would be beautiful, but I get nervous in that kind of setting). I personally need a more individualized approach. I first thought of the cheapie way of makeup for my wedding...asking a person who sells products at Bloomingdales do it. But she wasn't used to the level of work I want. My bridal trial with Shara was special, a great experience to remember. She has a gift, an art of REALLY listening and is confident to pull it off. She knocked it out of the park with my makeup and I am really lucky she's able do my makeup the day of my wedding this June! One less thing to worry about! I had a fear of putting on makeup, because I thought it would take me hours! I really only had 5 things in my makeup case, and I hardly ever used them. I read some reviews about the makeup lessons given by Shara and I thought, ""what the heck""..so I scheduled a lesson after work and I am so glad I did. Shara made the process of learning how to put on my makeup so easy. I am convinced I need only about 5 minutes in the morning to do my makeup, and I have the tools to know what to do to spice it up for night. I was concerned mostly with my eyes and how to accentuate them and I learned so many tricks. I feel like Shara should write a book, because she makes it so easy. I found her studio to be so cute as well! Best 100 dollars I have spent in a long time! Pros: Quick way of learning makeup, good value more

I had an appointment with a makeup studio yesterday, and they double booked themselves, so I was really in a MESS. I called over to Makeup For You and got a last minute appointment. I had a very upscale affair, so I needed to look my very best. Shara was very welcoming and asked me questions, so that I felt comfortable. I had taken a half day off to get my hair and makeup done before a charity event last Thursday. I was so calm around Shara when she had me in her talented hands. I told her I didn't like when makeup artists put so much on and also told her a makeup artist should read a person before doing the makeup, that way she isn't wearing someone else's face! Shara absolutely listened to me and I really loved what she did. It was so beautiful, and so natural at the same time. I can't wait for the next time I get my makeup done. My best friend found Shara through Citysearch a couple of years ago for her wedding, and I was the maid of honor. Most of my friends are all getting married around the same time, and we all agree that Shara is a great find and our favorite vendor! She is just so talented, so patient; I feel like she is one of the family. She reads you before she starts and always hits the makeup we want on the nose. So, even though I am not getting married till July, I already booked my day and just came home from my trial. My fiance says I look super sexy! And he never says a word! I've had my makeup done over a dozen times by Shara. I made my first appointment about a year ago to have my makeup done for a friend's wedding. I met lovely Shara and felt instantly felt comfortable in her company. She was so welcoming and her spirit was so positive and confident. I remember we discussed how I wanted to look, as she offered me wine, tea, and coffee. She really wants you to be comfortable so you will look your best! After that first time, I was hooked! It was GORGEOUS! She pulled me out of my shell and I was able to be the woman I wanted to be. Her upper east side location is so convinent for me and so I pop in whenever I want to look my best. Sometimes, she talks me into new colors and looks and it always looks phenominal! I highly reccomend Shara to anyone who has something they want to look dynamite for. She's awesome and even though I go a lot, it's so affordable, especially considering how much fun I have every time I get my makeup done. And my pictures speak volumes. I can go on and on about her, but I'll end by saying that there aren't many truly kind, truly talented people in NYC, but Shara is a breathe a fresh air. I was married on September 5th, 2009 and I hired Shara to do makeup for me, my 5 bridemaides, mother, and husband's mother. She added so much to our day by being her upbeat, calm self. Every person came out just gorgeous and the makeup lasted all night, through all of our pictures and all the dancing! I felt amazing and like I was floating all night. Shara is a nervous bride's dream, because she is always there to answer any questions you have and promptly! Pros: so talented and all around awesome more

My bridesmaids and I couldn't have been more pleased with Shara's job on our makeup for my wedding on 9/6/09. We were all so sad to wash our faces after the wedding! :) I was worried that the makeup would not last through hours of photos, eating, drinking, and dancing, but all of the makeup lasted perfectly throughout the night. I contacted Shara about 5 months ago to set up my wedding trial. It's really hard when you never loved any of your friend's bridal makeup and can't go by their recommendations. I found these glowing reviews and made the plunge to make a trial. I found the studio to be really nice, clean and Shara to be personable, comforting, and had beautiful makeup on herself. I felt at ease and she really took her time. She nailed on on first look! I was so excited when I left! On my wedding day, Shara came with her assistant Leah ( a total doll) to my hotel. They did my 5 bridesmaides, my mother, and my now husbands mother and no one had anything bad to say. In my Italian/Irish family, that's a miracle! ha! These girls have a gift of really listening to what you want and make YOU come through the makeup. It was a gorgeous day all around, and the makeup staying put all night (even in the summer!) made me so happy!
