Editorial review from Citysearch 10/6/2013

My Father moved into the dementia area at Northstar in the spring (2013) from another facility where he had lived for 7 years. It was a larger facility and not as convenient for me to visit as the Sanctuary. Because of some negative reviews I was hesitant to make the move. It was the concern and time that Ben spent with me and my family that made us take a chance on this facility and I have not been disappointed. Ben Brackett was the new resident manager at the time and has done a great job with getting things turned around there. He has a real heart for his residents and staff. It is a beautiful facility and with Ben's good leadership and caring staff I expect to see a waiting list in the near future. Some of the caregivers are always smiling and have a real heart for the residents. They are the true backbone of the facility and Ben understands that. I want my father to have all the smiles he can have in his last days. Thanks to Ben, Rose, Andrea, Jane, Judy and all the other smiling faces who make my Dad's life a little better. I pray the Lord will bless you for the care you give those less fortunate than you. \r Paula S. more

The caregivers took good care of our mother 1/16/2011

We placed our mother in The Sanctuary a about six years ago in the assisted living side, where she was well taken care of. She was 84 with severe macular degeneration, early alzheimers and used a cane/walker. She liked the food and made good friends. She was hospitalized due to a stroke and sent back to The Sanctuary with home healthcare coming in for physical therapy and speech therapy. She regained her speech though a little slurred, but never regained full use of her legs. Her alzheimers worsened & was transferred to the memory care unit, where they took good care of her and really seemed to love our mother. Our mother died peacefully in her sleep this fall and the caregivers will always have our gratitude for making our mother comfortable to the end. I highly recommend the place. more

Sanctuary at Northstar don't go there 12/11/2010

I agree with the comment made by Patti regarding her parent in the memory care unit. My father was also in the memory care unit at Sanctuary at Northstar in Kennesaw for 4 months until he died. The staff seemed to be caring but very understaffed. They were quite good at taking the phone to my dad when I called long distance so I could speak to him. Unfortunately, he was there a month before we found out I could even call him at all. Not the best communication from the director to my mother about that. They did not call my mother when he was dying so she could sit with him. They knew because I called that evening at 6 pm and was told he had been unresponsive all day. I would think if they weren't busy cleaning and trying to care for so many patients, they might have had time to notice his worsening condition. I don't fault the staff but the management their understaffing. My father died on October 2nd and that day my mother got all his things and furniture from his room and returned t more

world class care 2/19/2010

After my father died in 2008 it was apparent my mother could not live alone after she fell and broke her leg. Both my wife and I travel for business and our home is a two story, so living with us was not an option. We are thankful a friend recommended the Sanctuary because their relative lived there. My mother is happy and safe and we can rest knowing she is well cared for 24/7. more

no complaints 2/19/2010

Our father has alzheimers and has been in the special unit for memory care at the Santuary since May, 2009. He seems to be happy and the staff take good care of him in that he is eating well and is kept clean. We don't worry about him wandering because it is a secured area. He even seems to have a few friends, so we have no complaints about the place. more

very good rating 2/19/2010

Our aunt moved to the sanctuary 2 years ago and she is very comfortable there. She says the food is good and they take good care of her. The staff is always happy to help her when she needs help and they check on her regularly. We didn't want her living along because she fell and broke her hip in 2008. After spending a few days in a nursing home she moved into the sanctuary, and we have peace of mind knowing she is happy and well cared for there. more

Caregivers Really Care 2/19/2010

My mother in law has lived at The Sanctuary for 4 years, and she calls it "home." The caregivers seem to really care about her and they always have an upbeat attitude when I visit. She is in the early stages of dementia and the patience they exhibit with her is greatly appreciated. The food is good, the staff is accommodating and it is a beautiful place to live for a reasonable amount. Her favorite day is Thursday when the beautician comes and the day they go to Walmart, Publix, etc. I would and have recommended The Sanctuary to others. more

Memory Care Unit 4/28/2009

My father has been a resident of the center since July of 08. In that time we have seen the staff to resident ratio be cut drastically, leaving the residents in the memory care unit at risk. During most waking hours there is one staff member and 13-16 residents. These residents need assistance with dressing, toileting and feeding. When you have only one person in the unit and they are dealing with one residents dirty diapers, who is helping the other residents? Did you know that instead of giving Loving Care - the employee in the unit also does laundry - mops the floor - and serves dinner. I would highly suggest that before you place a loved one in the care of this facility.. spend a few afternoons observing. I want to say the staff does the best that they can - they just need more help! The Sanctuary keeps saying how things will change but they are just making empty promises. more
