Best Margarita's 8/8/2011

Best margarita I've ever had. I am not a huge fan of tequila...haven't been since college:) but I was in town on business and wanted to meet some of my family for drinks while I was here. They mentioned the $1 margaritas and I said why not? For a buck, I'll try anything! They were delicious. I heard the bartender tell another guest they make their own sour mix and you can totally tell. We had a great time just hanging out at the bar. I can't wait to come back to town cause the taquitos (which come with this incredible cream cheese spread) were to die for and the perfect bar munchie. I only wish the air conditioner had worked a little better, but c'est la vie...we just drank more yummy margaritas to cool off! more

mediocre food 6/14/2011

My wife and I were looking for a casual dinner out and wanted Mexican. I am not sure what "Modern Mexican" is suppose to taste like, but if it means bland they nailed it. Manager seemed to have an attitude with servers that was not real cordial especially in front of customers trying to enjoy a meal. more

Waste of time and money 5/9/2011

I should have listened to the reviews. The only good thing about this restaurant is during the month of May everything on the menu is $5.00. The service was horrible, slow, forgetful, and some of the meals were incorrect or missing items. The food was mediocre, my dad got the tequila chicken which was the only thing that was worth it. Tableside guacamole was new to me but was not that good. The sangria was so so, both the red and the white tasted the same. The only time the waiter smiled was when he delivered the check! We will not be going back to this restaurant, we should have just went to Zappatta's like originally planned :-/ more

Poor management, staff. Shouldnt it be about the customer? 3/31/2011

Stopped in after driving around for a nice place to go. Decided to go in bar area before making a decision to eat there. The management was clearly an egotistical young man who seemed to fancy himself with the ladies. It seemed like he was trying to make it some sort of men's club. More attention should have been given to us as new customers than trying to flirt with a handful of bar women receiving free drinks. It was very entertaining to watch. However we took our business elsewhere and will not be back. I cannot comment on the food we were never asked to order. more

Can't wait to go back! 12/29/2010

We recently came across San Antonio's, convenient to all the Southpark shopping. My family tried it out and loved the food. Service was great, though just a touch on the slow side. Our server was attentive though, and it did not detract from the experience. He kept the glasses filled and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was great. It is seasoned well and has good flavor. The shredded beef is especially good. My fiance and I plan to have our wedding rehearsal dinner there. If in need of a private room for group things, check out their banquet room. They can adjust depending on the size and have great menu options at various prices per person. Can't wait to go back! more

DON'T BOTHER! 8/26/2010

While in Charlotte recently to visit my sister, we decided to try out this "new" restaurant in South Park. She lives very close by and as we were staying at The Doubletree, the location seemed very convenient. My sister had mentioned that this restaurant had just opened and was advertising "$1 Margaritas". Neither one of us are "big drinkers", but it sounded fun and was close, so we thought we'd try it. Upon our arrival at about 9:30PM on a Tuesday night, we were seated in the bar area where we promptly ordered "2 Margaritas". The drinks themselves tasted very sugary. I had only taken 1 or 2 small sips when we were approached again by the waitress and told (not asked) to pay our bill as she wanted to "close out" and "go home". She informed us that any future drinks should be ordered from the bartender directly. I was very surprised when she returned with a bill for $10+ for the 2 drinks. When I questioned her about the bill, she stated that the charge represented 2 "call drinks". When I asked her why she brought "call drinks" when none were ordered, she told me that it was the "restaurant's policy" that unless the customer specifically requested the "$1 Margarita", they were brought the more expensive drink made with "call liquor". I did not ask for the restaurant manager right then as my time with my sister was very limited, we were just in the middle of a private conversation, and I did not want to waste my limited time arguing restaurant policy with the manager. I did resigned to phone him later regarding the incident however. After our return to Atlanta the next day, I spoke directly with the owner/mgr over the telephone regarding the incident. He apologized, but seemed more concerned that the waitress had asked us to pay so she could close out, than he did about her bringing the more expensive drinks that we did not order. Although he initially offered to credit back the overage onto my charge card, he later switched his offer to a restaurant gift certificate which he offered to mail to my address in Atlanta. That was 2 weeks ago and I have yet to receive anything from the restaurant. Although I don't live there in Charlotte anymore, we visit quite often but will be hard pressed to ever frequent this establishment again. more

San Antonio's Southpark 6/22/2010

We went to San Antonios because we love good Mexican food and were curious about this new Southpark restaurant. The "lo-carb" (low sugar) margaritas were great; the fried oyster appetizer was spicy and tasty. My husband ordered the skirt steak after the waitress described the other steak as a "diaghragm" (kinda a funny remark but not very appetizing--I don't think I've ever heard a steak described by the body part from whence it came)! He found it to be tasty but very fatty. I ordered the chicken burrito and it was delicious. The biggest disappointment was the blandness of the salsa and the $10 guacamole. It was not only mild----but void of flavor. They offered us some hot sauce, which didn't help. We hit the Pepto Bismol when we got home. It's definitely not "lite" food, and there's little flexibility in how it's prepared. I'll give it three stars. If they improve the guac and salsa, I might give it four. It's worth a try! Pros: lo carb margaritas; great atmosphere; great service Cons: bland salsa and guacamole more

Try it out 6/21/2010

I have had nothing but positive experiences at San Antonio's. So much so that these reviews are seriously surprising. First of all, their guacamole is to die for, made right by the table with as little or as much spice or ingredients as you want. Second, I do not consider myself a connoisseur of Mexican food, but to me, Mexican food is not supposed to just taste spicy. The meat is higher quality than you will find in a normal mexican restaurant, and the "low carb" lettuce wrap chicken fajitas were so delicious. My friend ordered a steak dry rubbed in spices. Admittedly, it was overcooked. These kinds of slip-ups are to be expected with a new restaurant, so we informed our waiter. About 5 minutes later a manager came out with his steak, cooked perfectly this time. The staff is friendly and the food is high quality Mexican and so delicious. And did I mention their drink specials?? $1 margaritas! And to top it off, I can eat Mexican cuisine in a classic dining room instead of in an over-the-top themed restaurant. I definitely plan on returning to San Antonio's, this should definitely be your SouthPark mall lunchtime destination! Pros: Cheap drinks, good food, casual environment more

don't waste your money 6/2/2010

After some shopping with the family, we decided to try the new Mexican restaurant where Morton's used to be. We were put in a dark corner of a very dimly lit room. The untrained waitress kept messing things up and getting flustered. The $1 margaritas were a joke, sickeningly sweet and almost no liquor (I know, what can expect for a dolla.) The chicken tacos were extremely average and bland. I ordered the chiles rellenos, and it by far the worst I have ever had. There was only one (very large) chile, and the battered coating and the pepper were so tough they had to be cut with a knife. The filling was a bunch of cheese with a little chicken, just awful. Pros: none Cons: overpriced, poor service, dimly lit more

Good Food, Horrible Management and Service 5/26/2010

This review will be in multiple sections, the first dealing with the food, the second, dealing with the service. First off the food, is great, menu is sort of small, but I can appreciate that because it gives the restaurant a chance to focus on a few great dishes rather than a lot of so-so dishes. I have had the jalapeño popper appetizer which is nice and spicy and has great flavor. The chicken wing appetizer was surprisingly good as they are nice and crispy and have a hint of jalapeño flavor as well. For an entrée I had the mixed chicken and steak fajitas which were good. The portions were very small for fajitas as compared to other local Mexican style restaurants and the steak has way more flavor than the chicken style. The drinks from first glance are a steal, but definitely think twice about ordering the $1 Margaritas. They have virtually no alcohol in them and are very sugary. You have the option to pay an extra dollar for another shot which is still a deal, but I have a feeling they are not giving you another shot considering you still cannot taste any tequila. I would suggest drinking beers here unless you want a sugar rush. Now the service, I don't know where to start. I think it really does fall with the managers as they need to make sure their staff is fully trained, that the restaurant is ready for a busy night and that they need to strive to please its patrons, especially in it's first week here. The service experience was horrible and that's being generous. We had a table of 6 and were seated on promptly. At two points in the dinner we had waited for over 20 minutes for margaritas and if the waitress wasn't blaming it on the bar staff, the manager was blaming it on the waitress for being flustered. A constantly blame game the whole time, which doesn't look good when a manager blames a staff member he is supposed to be managing. When I brought up the issues with the same manager who blamed his staff he again placed the blame on her and said that she's flustered without taking any blame himself or trying to remedy the situation at all, just walked off. We had waited for about 10 minutes to get or checks, which were incorrect and had the wrong people's food on some checks, so we sent them back and it took over 20 more minutes to get the correct checks out at this point we spent 20 minutes eating and about an hour and fifteen waiting for something such as drinks, food or our checks. Just as a courtesy I sent the Managing Partner an email on Sunday afternoon letting him know about the experience and have yet to receive a response. Unfortunately I don't think this place is going to last long in this neighborhood unless it changes it's attitude around. Pros: High Quality Tex-Mex Cuisine Cons: Unsympathetic and Unresponsive Management more
