Food is wonderful. The best of the best. Go early, though. It gets popular. The scenery is great and it is very romantic. Great experience for anyone. Pros: food, ambience, parking Cons: sometimes a wait more

Overrated - Save your $$$ 12/8/2008

I've been to more than my share of restaurants in LA and I must admit this was the most disappointing.\r First of all, if you can find this place - congratulations! I don't know if it's the fault of Salt Creek or the city, but they should change their address. If you use Mapquest, Google or GPS you will not arrive at the supposed address. It's actually located at the intersection of Sepulveda and Rosecrans, inside a strip mall with Best Buy, Borders and Whole Foods. Yes, this was once a beautiful wetland sanctuary for those of us old enough to remember.\r \r There's really nothing spectacular inside, except for a fireplace and some fire pits outside the patio, and some live music (if you get there early enough to hear it). You would find a similar ambience at your local Olive Garden. \r The menu is expensive, from $12 martinis to $15 appetizers, up to $30 main dishes. For that price you would expect the food to be at least good, but it's mediocre at best. My advice is to save your money and have a nice dinner at Islands or even TGIF to experience the same quality of food. We went on a Saturday and the service or lack of it makes the dining experience less than desireable. Once our waiter took our orders and we didn't see again until he gave us our check one hour later.\r \r Pros: Lots of parking spaces\r Cons: Bad address, poor service, expensive menu, mediocre food more

Overall, great atmosphere for friends 5/8/2008

I have been here for lunch as well as happy hour a few times and have enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Though like any restaraunt, there are bad days. One lunch, we had poor service. But that was because the poor girl serving the patio area was by herself and there were several loud rude people giving her grief. Happy hour is fantastic... the open bar area with the huge table is great for our large group to mingle around. The wasabi encrusted chilean sea bass was delicious as is the goat cheese dip. Cons: Price more

Save your money. 5/6/2008

The restaurant itself is really nice and clean. The patio and fire pits are beautiful and a great place to chat with friends. The service was decent, it was a Monday night so not too busy. We had a group of friends for a birthday dinner. I ordered a mushroom/swiss burger with fries and it tasted just okay. I've had better burgers at other places for way less. The fries were good but not hot. I only ate half and thank goodness because I got sick later on that night and was not a happy camper. I can't use the appropriate term because they won't print my review, so I use sick but we all know that that means. I think even without the ""sickness"", I would not return back to Salt Creek Grille. It was below average and the high prices do not match the quality of food that was served. Pros: Great Parking Lot, Awesome Fire Pits and Outside Lounges Cons: Overpriced, Bad Food more

very disappointing! 3/18/2008

this is the most disappointing restaurant experience i've had to date. there were three of us in our party. we came in on a saturday night so a wait was expected. a few minutes after we came, a couple of ladies came in and put their name down for a table. half-way through our wait, the two ladies who came after us were seated before us! i was ready to make a scene if one of the other members of my party hadn't calmed me down. i know the receptionist knew i was upset because she could not even look at me straight in the eye. \r \r when we finally got our table, it took a good 15 minutes for our server to finally get to our table. he was enumerating the night's specials when we cut him off since all of us already knew what we wanted (that's how long we were waiting -- we were actually able to go over the menu four times reading each item and then decide what we wanted to have). \r \r to top it all off, the food was mediocre. the salmon was dry and over-cooked. the pork chop was bland and a bit tough and my barbecue pork sandwich was mostly barbecue sauce which soaked right through the bread making it soggy and unappealing. the only redeeming item in the lot was the garlic fries. but then if that were the case, i should have just ordered the fries and saved me some disappointment. \r \r oh, did i mention that the bar area is the noisiest place on earth? it seems that the band was trying to play loud enough overpower the talking people and the people were talking loud enough to overpower the band! \r \r now if i could get my mother-in-law to go there and then lock her in, this would be a much better world! \r \r oh wait, i don't have a mother-in-law. . . Pros: garlic fries Cons: everything else more

Garlic Fries anyone? 3/8/2008

Cool place to snuggle & chat by the fire with that special someone. If on a budget, try the chesseburger and ""garlic fries""...Yum! more

No wait time, but................ 11/13/2007

We went to the Salt Creek Grille hoping that it would be a good place to eat. We were very disappointed. The appetizer was ok, as were the drinks. Considering the price of the drinks ($10 each) they should have been great. The pork chop was very over-cooked (to the point of shoe leather) and the short ribs were heavily cooked in port wine which made it very un-appetizing unless you like port wine, then maybe you would have enjoyed your dinner. For the price of the meal, we could have gone to Flemings and enjoyed our meal a 1000 times more. It wasn't worth it. Pros: quick seating, nice atmosphere Cons: pricey food, overcooked, heavy sauce more

Very Disappointing 6/30/2007

I couldnt wait for this restaurant to open locally since I had been to the one in Dana Point several times. It was very expensive for lunch and not particularly good. I had crabcakes ($17 for three very small) and some potatoes. The cakes were mostly filler and heavily deep fried. I usually avoid crab cakes at restrauants for this very reason. But, because the quality at the Dana Point restaurant had always been so good, I decided to try them here. The two other people dining with me were not too impressed with their lunches either. Probbaly not return. Pros: Easy parking (valet) in a huge parking lot where it is not needed! Beautiful ambience Cons: Way too expensive for what you get. Service was not friendly more

Not worth the high prices 6/22/2007

Very disappointing for a meal that cost $120--that got us two drinks, and appetizer, a soup for him and two entrees. The meat was fine but for those prices I think that frozen vegetables are unacceptable, as is undercooked rice. Seafood chowder tasted fishy. The atmosphere is nice, our waiter made us uncomfortable though. Won't be back. more
