Absolutely the worst customer service... Food OK... Avoid this tourist trap. 8/26/2006

I read the other reviews and thought OK, I'll give this place a second chance. The first dining experience was horrible!!! Well shame on me... Once again I'm out $100.00+ for a below average meal with below average service from a staff of really bad servers. The servers at the Salt Cellar would make better pirates... At least then I would understand how I was robbed of my money... \r And here's the best part... My server looked shocked when I didn't leave him a tip... \r MANAGERS... get a clue. WAKE UP, look around. Are you happy with what you see?\r \r It's my pleasure to tell as many people as possible how I feel about your business...\r Thanks for reading my comments.\r \r Pros: For some reason people like this place... Cons: Very Poor Management that allow bad behavior to be rewarded. more

This resturant has been here a long time but it was our first time to go and it was well worth the trip. Just having to walk down into a ""cellar"" was a great adventure. The food is wonderful and the service is great. I do think they could do more to make it more private and romantic by using dividers/greenery and etc. more

Birthday Disaster Dinner 4/26/2006

After 3 complaints about being seated directly below an a/c duct, causing much discomfort, being told that there was nothing they could do, all the tables were taken. Finally asked that our food be boxed ane we could eat in the parking lot. By the 2nd & 3rd time, 3 tables behind us that were not in the direct path of the a/c cleared but were were never offered to us. We had to ask for everything, more bread, iced tea, where is the 2nd shrimp cocktail we ordered? We spent $95 for 2 people ,a dry lobster. The Key Lime pie was excellant. We will NEVER return. Employees pooly trained in customer service. Surprised they have been around so long. Stay out ""A"" table dining rm if you don't care to eat in a meat locker. Not once did a manager ever come to address the problem in person. Pros: neat concept, Key Lime Pie Cons: Customer Service, Food Service, Price more

User review by char911 5/7/2005

My husband and I had our first date 16 years ago at the Salt Cellar that was located at Indian School Road and EVERYTHING was a wonderful experience. We have continued to celebrate all of our special occasions at the one Salt Cellar that is still open since that day. We have one major complaint and that is that another Salt Cellar was supposed to be built on the west side of town and it has never come to fruition. However, we still make our pilgrimage to the one and only Salt Cellar available to take our friends whenever the opportunity arises. Pros: Best Seafood in town, excellent service, Cozy environment Cons: only one location more

The Salt Cellar is one of the most sensational restaurants in all of Arizona. Not only is the food wonderful, but the warm and classic atmosphere add to the extraordinary dining experience. Some of The Salt Cellars greatest qualities include the friendly employees and fantastic service which no other restaurant in the area can compare to. more

Eat at the Bar 3/2/2005

I have eaten at the Salt Cellar on several occassions: a few times seated and other times at the bar. It was a great experience every time. If you are going for a romantic dinner and have plenty of spending $$$$, by all means, get a table and sit. But if you are on a budget, you can still indulge w/o breaking the bank.... The Salt Cellar can be very expensive, but if you go on a week night and sit at the bar, you might be pleasantly suprised. You can get great seafood at really good prices off of the happy hour menu. I looooove the turtle soup (served w/lime and a shot of sherry! WOW). The bar staff are also so friendly and accomodating! It makes it worth it to sit at the bar. Pros: Bar service, Happy Hour Seafood, Nice people Cons: Expensive more

Fantastic tasting seafood! 11/30/2004

This was the best seafood I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot of seafood). Go to the Salt Cellar, you'll love it. My boyfriend took me to the salt cellar for my birthday and it was so delicious! I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and well prepared the seafood was. I had their king crab legs, they were succulant and sweet. They came w/rice pilaf, a large salad, plenty of fresh bread (ours had olives in it). The Salt Cellar is below ground and has a great ambiance with wood walls and authentic yellow lanterns. Our waitress was so nice and even cracked my crab shell for me. The even gave me free desert, key lime pie, which was so delicous. Our waitress told me they have a freezer locker at the airport and get fresh seafood daily. I could tell, it was a wonderful dining experience. Pros: Delicous and Fresh, Fairly priced, Wonderful ambiance more

Happy Hour! 8/29/2004

Happy Hour at The Salt Cellar is an event. Get there early cuz the bar is TINY. You can get Escargot in Mushroom caps for $5.00. Also a bucket of mussels is a bargain at 4 bucks. The shrimp cocktail is to die for. Happy Hour is 7 days a week from 4-7pm and again from 10p-close. Pros: Cheap eats! more

Amazing! 12/17/2003

My husband and I went to the Salt Cellar for our 5th anniversary. I loved it! I have never had such inovative dishes in my life! I highly recommend the stuffed lobster. The different herbs and breading made it delictable. I recommend going to an early dinner to receive the best service. The staff were very helpful with any questions we had about which wine to choose to craking the lobster claws! I have told everyone in my family and all my friends to go there. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up! Pros: friendly staff, good sized portions, ambiance Cons: don't take young kids, appitizer portion sml more

Disappointed 9/10/2003

My husband and I went for our one year anniversary. The restaurant itself was very unique, with wooden plank walls and soft lighting. However, our meals left something to be desired. The food was only mediocre and cold and our service was not on par with the price. We waited forty minutes before even being served our salad. Our waitress never returned with items which we requested and only stopped at the table twice during the entire visit. Our glasses sat empty after the initial filling. In fact she seemed to be annoyed when we asked for anything. Pros: lovely rustic setting, great clam chowder Cons: horrible service, poor main entree, no privacy more

Lobster 4/25/2003

I love this place for the awesome Maine Lobster! It never disappoints! Pros: Great Lobster! more

Salt Cellar Review 4/6/2003

Visit in April 2003. Here is the review. Service was the usual above average, but food quality has since been degraded. I had the Ahi Tuna pasta but the vegtables and pasta overwelmed the dish and which had a bland taste at best. The tuna ""should"" have been the primary taste of the dish. My wife had the scallops which also tasted bland. Its like the chef just wanted to get the dish to the table without even thinking of a presentation or ambience. Bad skills if this is the main chef for the restaurant. I can understand if one main entree is bad, but two is untolerable. These meals were $20 and $22 respectively. Seemed like the wait staff was more involved with serving the larger group table who were pouring $$$ in wine selections. Pros: Reservations, Initial Greetings Cons: Bland Food, Entree Prices more

Great Food & Service 1/28/2003

The food and service were absolutely fabulous. In many restaurants, the servers bring out our next course before you've had a chance to enjoy your current one, but not at the Cellar. The server was courteous and let us enjoy our lovely dinner, without feeling pressure to ""speed-it-up."" Also, the baked stuffed lobster was perfect, and the cajun sea bass was to die for. Pros: service, good parking Cons: location more

Yes Fish in the Desert 10/15/2002

The Salt Cellar is a MUST visit for all seafood lovers. In Arizona GREAT seafood is hard to find, and really fresh seafood near impossible to get. Not at the Salt Cellar. The seafood is fresh, the menu offers great selection and the service is outstanding. Prices reflect the cost to maintain a fresh connection to the sea but worth every dollar. more

Sometimes good sometimes bad 10/12/2002

I have been to the restaurant to eat many times, usually I make my selection from the bar menu. The atmosphere and service was allways good. However I went there for my birthday and ate in the dinning room. Nearly every ordered was terrible. When the fresh (from tank) lobster came out it was cooked terribly the waitress even said that it was not right. They took it back to the kitchen. It came back burnt and just as bad if not worse than the first time. My partners meal was eaten and cleared away before I had started mine. To make it worse the staff looked down on you because there cooks messed the meal. I was totally disgusted with the service and quality of food at the restaurant that night. As a result I will recommend to all I know never to go to this restaurant again. Pros: atmosphere Cons: service, customer treatment more
