Best of everything! 5/15/2008

This is a true jewel among restaurants in SF! The Chef is a master of spices. The flavor of every dish was very well balanced but still had a nice exotic touch, very interesting for ones taste buds! The decoration on the ceiling and walls creates a very warm atmosphere. Staff is extremely attentative and friendly, they will explain everything to you, as there may be a few things that one may not be familiar with. Make sure you make a reservation. It is a must while in San Francisco! more

Grrreat! 5/4/2008

Located in the lobby of the Carlton Hotel where the wife and I were staying, we couldn't help but smell the wonderful aromas each night going up to our room. After a day of sightseeing we were too exhausted to leave the hotel so we thought, hey why not try Saha. We made an 8pm rez thru the Hotel and they sat us right away even though the place was pretty full. We started with a cabbage special that the waiter recommended, it was a cold appetizer that had rice, tomatoes, onions over a yogurt sauce...fantastic. So was the lamb and the vegan tofu special. If you crave unique middle eastern fusion food, go here, in fact stay upstairs the Hotel Carlton was pretty good as well. Pros: great flavors, service Cons: some seats are real close together to other parties more

Fusion Fantastic 1/13/2008

I've been to this restaurant a few times for dinner and I always come away with a delighted palette. It really is fusion food and while some of the flavors and ingredients are common to Arabic food, it is more of its own thing than anything else. 95% of the dishes are complex, beautiful, and fresh and include a lot of local ingredients. The meats are cooked perfectly and the zaatar is good in any of the plates they serve it with. I was surprised to see the ""free glass of champagne"" note on this site. I've never been offered one... However, the staff are all very pleasant. If you order ""S..p Yo Mama"", be patient so they cook it well. It is a fab desert but the phillo was very undercooked when served to us. Don't ask for the explanation of the origins of the name... more

Warm is the word that comes to mind when describing the food, the staff and the setting. 11/9/2007

A wonderfully unique blend of deliciously prepared food and a warm welcoming staff in a comfortable romantic setting. Everything is slightly exotic. I really appreciate the delicate hand used to introduce a delightful array of herbs and spices. Nothing is too strong or over powering. The names of the dishes might be a little confusing but the descriptions are clear so that's how I order. Saha is one of a kind experience that you owe yourself. Pros: Everything. How often can you say that. Cons: Maybe that it's in a hotel past the lobby. Hey it's San Francisco we know how to find a restaurant in a hotel. more

Saha -- little gem in the Tenderloin 2/25/2007

We went to Saha as part of a charity event, wanting someplace both romantic and new to both of us. We weren't disappointed. Saha has a lovely dining room with great lighting and a Moroccan sort-of theme. The food was delicious -- and we love small-plate dining and they had great variety in their small-plate menu. We were salivating just looking at the menu. We especially enjoyed the prawns in rosewater. They did a great job with fusion of fresh ingredients and mediterranean styles. The only downside is that we seemed to have been forgotten after receiving our meals (perhaps because of a large party at another table). However, the staff was so friendly and in general so attentive that they were quickly forgiven for their oversight. We can't wait to go back. more

Outstanding 11/4/2006

We split the foulel appetizer, a fava bean puree that included onion, tomato, garlic and peppers, served with warm pita bread - outstanding. i chose the Moroccan couscous with winter vegetables, spicy merguez sausages and a ramekin of cooking liquid and chile-infused harissa. My wife ordered the chicken breast marinated in orange juice, cinnamon, sage, honey and lime. It was initially pan seared and then gently roasted. Her entree was served over a couscous cake with an orange cinnamon sauce - fantastic flavors. more

We will definitely go back! 9/23/2006

My husband and I went to Saha with a few friends last week. It was the first time for all of us. We all loved it and couldn't stop talking about it! We ordered salads, small plates and desserts and shared everything. Every plate had delicious & interesting flavors. Portions were good for the price. The bill came to $30 pp (out the door - including tip)! We all ate very well that night. The service was very warm and friendly! We will definitely be patronizing this restaurant again! Pros: delicious food, interesting menu, great service Cons: room was warm more

FABULOUS !!! 7/18/2006

By far the BEST PLACE I have dined at in a long time. \r This place is located in the premises of Hotel Carlton and has a small area. The ambience is perfect for a nice romantic dinner or a special occasion celebration. \r Both the food and services are outstanding and they go above and beyond.\r We were there on a Saturday night with a few friends. We had reservation, but since it was busy, the hostess provided drinks on the house and got us a table in a few minutes.\r The food was heavenly. The sizes are usually small and the check comes to be a little heavy in the end. But its worth every penny. If you are famished, you may have to order a little extra than the usual. \r We started with the herb soup and then got some small plates: Bastille which was phyllo wrapped around mixed chicken was awesome. So were the other plates- stuffed artichoke hearts, squash ravioli were fabulous. As for entrees, we had the saha red curry, couscous tower, veggie island and orange chicken were out of the world.\r This place is definitely a standout and deserves compliments for the awesome food and service they provide. I would highly recommend this place and if you are in the area, you should never miss Saha! Pros: awesome food, great service and good ambience Cons: Small place, expensive more

I love the soups! 6/9/2006

Everytime i have gone to Saha I have been impressed by the soups. One of my all time favorite soups was a jalapeno, fennel soup, it was so flavorful and creamy, but it was entirely vegan. I find the food to be consistently good, and that they use a very creative combination of ingredients. I eat mostly vegetarian food, and the menu offers a great selection, many dishes are even vegan. In some of my other dining experiences, I have found vegan food to be rather flavorless, but not at Saha. I am always surprised by how much flavor is packed into these dishes. I highly recommend going to Saha, and bring a good appetite with you. more

Our FAVORITE! 3/8/2006

My husband and I LOVE Saha! It is hands- down our favorite in SF. The staff is excellent and the wine is paired perfectly with the food. We always leave feeling as though we had the best dinner in town!!!! We haighly recommend the experience that is Saha! more

Good but not great 1/6/2006

After reading all of the great reviews here, I recently dined at Saha but, unfortunately, didn't have the same experience as many of the other reviewers. The food was good and the service was excellent but, compared to other SF restaurants with small plates and similar flavors - a relatively new on in the Mission comes to mind - Saha was just average, maybe a little above average. Everything was good but not outstanding - e.g. the hummus, the bastille (chicken/spices in phyllo). The kifta (meatballs) were even bland. Only one of our four dishes (the crispy couscous tower) was amazing. It may have been that we ordered the wrong items or come on an off-night (it wasn't a weekend) but, with so many incredible restaurants in SF, I can't recommend it. Pros: service Cons: food not remarkable more

AMAZING 12/23/2005

Absolutely everything at this restaraunt was flawless. The sampler platter is the best of the best - a must do. Everything had amazing complex flavors. The atmosphere is romantic without being overbearing , however; it is great for groups as well. A fantastic find - I'll be back!!! more

Home away from home... 12/6/2005

Business brings me to San Francisco every other week. During my week long stay at the Hotel Carlton (which is a great hotel), I typically eat at Saha at least three nights out of the week that I stay there. I have nothing but great things to say about both the amazing array of cuisine but about the entire staff as well. The food is outstanding as you can see from all of the other reviews. My review will point out the staff's ability to make a dining experience comfortable and enjoyable while still maintaining a professional existence. Pros: Great Food, Accomodating Staff, Large Menu more

Saha was great! 12/2/2005

I had to plan my friends birthday for 16 on a Thursday night at the very last minute. Where on earth was I going to get a reso of that size on a Thursday night? Thank god someone recommended Saha, they had space and even let us bring in our own balloons and dessert. Saha offers a three course dinner for 30 dollars that worked out fantastic as sometimes the checks for these birthday dinners can just get out of control. Our servers name was Heather and she was amazing, knew all about the menu and handled my drunken, high maintenance friends like a true professional. Even the rest of the staff was wonderful and make you feel at home in their restaurant. Three cheers for Saha! Pros: Service, Quiet, value Cons: no windows, parking more

Exceptional cuisine and ambience 11/5/2005

There are many good restaurants in San Francisco, but there are only a few especially great ones that keep me coming back and Saha is one of them. The food is exceptional, distinctive and very flavorful. The ambiance is romantic and stylish, yet unpretentious. And the service is fabulous. Prior to frequenting Saha, I had no experience with middle-eastern flavors or dishes, and I relied on the staff to advice me on my selections. Now I always take what they recommend and its always a great experience. more

I find my car steers itself to Saha 10/27/2005

Over the past year, I have frequented Saha on numerous occasions. Throughout my many visits I have found two consistencies: the reliability of good service (the waitstaff are knowledgeable about the cuisine and the wine), and the ability for the fare to excite my taste buds time and time again. This consistency has prompted me to post a review and to share my experience with others. I sometimes find my car steering itself to Saha so that I can sample the raviolis, mint tiger prawns, the fatoush and the lamb tagine. The hostess is genuine and inviting, and she makes me feel at home each time I visit. Truly, something wonderfully different in a sea of ordinary restaurants! Pros: Service, Cuisine, Decor Cons: Limited bar area more
