AMAZING place! A true gem! 4/6/2011

My fiance and I went to the sage room to try out some place new after spending a couple hours at the beach. I had heard of it from a friend and had also driven by it many times wondering what it may be like. I wasn't really sure what type of food it was, but after reading so many praising reviews I decided we must try it! Best decision ever as my fiance said! Guillermo was our sever and showed us the most hospitality, above and beyond! He was like a good friend having us over for dinner to his house and so patient! Calamari was so divine and then he brought us a special treat to try, some pumpkin ravioli that literally melted in our mouths and were so full of flavour, like nothing we have ever had. Our drinks were constantly refilled, but we weren't being rushed out the door like most places treat you. I ordered the chicken pizza with sundried tomatoes, spinach, feta, and bufalo cheese and it was very very good! My fiance ordered the lasagna and was in heaven the moment he took his first bite! We didn't really have room for dessert so we were going to just pack up what we had left and head out, but Guillermo surprised us with a delicious chocolate dessert to top it all off! WOW! We will be back! Romantic, clean, friendly, warm, welcoming! Love! more

Excellent Food, Romantic and Clean! 9/28/2010

My husband to me to The Sage Room on PCH in Malibu in a limo for my birthday, along with our 2 grown kids. Wow! The chef is pleasant and hospitable. We just loved him and the staff, not to mention the food is off the chart at a 20. This place is impeccably clean. One bite of my seafood dish and I was certain someone instantly blew me right out of my chair. Wow! The music reminded me of sultry Argentine Tango music. Honestly, I was swept off of my feet into a romantic atmosphere of excellent dining. The chef made me feel so wonderful, as if I were in Italy. This day my husband gave to me was so powerful, that I came away in a new frame of mind and what a tremendous stress buster, too. Thank You to The Sage Room. Thank You Very Much. more

Best restaurant on PCH and vicinity 8/16/2010

My wife and I have enjoyed this place since they first opened about 10 years ago. It's cozy and friendly and their menu is consistently good and creative. As we drive through our community, we sometimes comment on the different restaurants that we won't return to and the reasons why. Sage is on our short list thanks to Claudio and his staff. more

Best Restaurant in Malibu 2/2/2010

This is hands down the best restaurant in Malibu. The reviews below pretty much say it all. Go there even if you don't want Italian food. Besides typically Italian dishes (THE best melt in our mouth lasagna I've ever had... this includes Italy) you will find things on the menu like beef stew. Sound boring?... Wrong! The roots of the place are in Claudio's home town in northern Italy, with recipies created by his mother. The beef stew is an example; It's one of those dishes that the people there actually eat, but I've never seen it on a menu in an Italian restaurant before. Claudio and Wilfredo will prepare it for you with anything you like (I suggest fettucine alfredo with it). I know... you don't like fettucine alfredo because it's always too cheesy and gooey and heavy... Wrong again. It's exquisite here.. the way it's meant to be prepared. Not in the mood for Italian at all? Try the incredible pork porterhouse (often on the menu) with roasted potatoes and a vegetable.\r Oh, one more thing... In a town with lots of pretentious, overpriced places with mediocre food, The Sage Room is reasonably priced. They even have a wine selection of the month for $20 a bottle; I always order it, and it's always excellent. The Sage Room is a gem. If you like great dining, you're guaranteed to love it.\r \r more

An AMAZING find in Malibu 11/19/2007

I visited the Sage Room on Friday night for the first time with my family. I must say that the food and the service were fantastic. We were promptly greeted by the owner who introduced us to his wife. Once seated, we reviewed the menu and the owner came back to take our order. With each order we made, he commented something special about the dish. If it was a special recipe from his Italian mother, or if the cheese was imported, or even if it was just to say, ""you won't be dissapointed"" and how it was prepared. I really wish there was something like this restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. I will definately be back, but it is quite far from my home. Excellent!!!! Pros: food, service, ambiance Cons: distance from my home! more

My new favorite restaurant!! Absolutely delicious, beautfiful presentation and Service with a smile! 8/13/2007

A good friend of mine brought me to the Sage Room and I have to say it is honestly one of the best places I have eaten at in LA. The food is fantastic and the service was the way it should be ~ prompt, professional and friendly. It was like I was a guest at someone's home who did everything they could to ensure that my stay was memorable, and that it was!\r \r I will certainly be back! Pros: Delicious food, cozy atmosphere and some of the best service I have had in LA! Cons: A long drive.... more

Fun, intimate environment and great food! 5/30/2007

I've dined at Sage Room 3 times since meeting the owner Claudio on a bike ride. When he told me about the restaurant I decided to try it that night. The food was wonderful, and the service was outstanding though it was a bit more expensive than I expected. My next 2 visits were for the Sunday brunch. Again, outstanding food and very reasonably priced. You get the sense that Claudio or his wife are personally in charge of the food preparation and special selections. \r \r The only negative, and it's not the fault of the restaurants, is the deafening noise level created by the Neanderthals on their Harley's going up and down the PCH on Sunday mornings. Pros: Excellent food, good specials, welcoming atmosphere Cons: Morons on motorcycles on Sunday mornings. more

Outstanding! 8/15/2006

We made the drive from Westlake to Sage and boy, was it worth it! My husband and I reside in Phoenix but were visiting his parents for the weekend. Sage is our new favorite restaurant! The welcome and service was outstanding... The meal, fantastic. We left our mark by ordering 5 deserts because the variety sounded too good to pass up. Most delicious cheesecake we've ever tasted. 10/10 more

Best food and ambience 7/8/2006

We just came from having dinner at Sage Room. The owner Claudio is outstanding. His welcome is exceptional. His presence with his wife and son makes the difference. We enjoyed talking to them and enjoyed equally their home made lasagna and the whole wheat spaghetti with chicken, rapini and sundried tomatoes. We will for sure go back more than once. Pros: Food, Service and ambience more

Wonderful place for a delicious dinner! 1/3/2006

We are always more than happy to drive from the valley to Malibu to dine at this fabulous little restaurant. Claudio, the owner, provides incredibly personalized service and will accommodate virtually any request. The food is creative, interesting and absolutely delicious. My favorite is the pumpkin raviolis, which I must confess I ate five times in a span of about four weeks, I was so addicted to them. We recently had an ahi that was rubbed with chilis, over crispy spinach, which was out of this world. It was one of Claudios seasonal specials, which are always wonderful. The food is more than reasonably priced for the quality and experience we received. I cant recommend this place enough for romantic dinner or anytime you just want a great meal. Pros: Personalized Service, Delicious Food more

Do Lunch 12/1/2005

If only the Sage Room were located off of PCH...somewere the bikers are not adding fuel for the turn up Kanan. The noise is deafning and detracts from the whole dining experience. Wine list is over priced...BYO. Pros: Food, Service Cons: PCH Noise, $$$$ wine more

TASTES TO WOW YOU 7/27/2005

After knowing of this place for sometime I FINALLY went for dinner and have been back several times since. On my first visit I was proud to meet the owner and his wife who are in the restaurant cooking and overseeing all. On one visit I had the Filet with a cranberry and wine reduction...TO DIE FOR!! I have also had the veal in lemon and capers...tender and slightly tart....heaven!! The decor is colorfull and soothing and the service is exemplary. This is a real must for a romantic or even just a great meal. You will also have to try the deserts....luscious!! Mid to high price range but worth every cent. Pros: Devine food, devine service, devine atmosphere Cons: None found more

Perfect Italian restaurant. 7/21/2005

This has to be one of my favorite little Italian restaurants. The service is impeccable, the food delicious, the ambience superb. If you weren't looking for it, you might not even know that is there. It really is one of the best kept secrets in Malibu. I've been twice and thoroughly enjoyed both visits and would highly and without reservation recommend this little gem to anyone that wants to enjoy a romantic, wonderful Italian dinner. I found the prices to be very reasonable too. I've was taken there on a date once and found the service to be outstanding and then took a friend for her birthday and we received the same impeccable, unpretenious, friendly service. Pros: Impeccable service, outstanding food., excellent value more

Under-rated! 5/15/2004

I went there recently-- probably my 5th dinner there-- and the owner/host was unbelieveably haughty and rude. Totally unable to prepare a Tuscan steak ""medium"" as ordered, and told me maybe I should go to McDonald's instead. It came out raw the first time, and crispy burnt the 2nd time. My wife's food was also subpar. A bad night I'll forgive, but abuse and rudeness I won't. \r \r When the true colors came out, I decided that I'll never eat there again. At Tradinoi or Allegria, they always treat you nice. Never again will these guys get my money. Pros: food, free parking, quiet more
