Efficient, Honest and Customer-Friendly 2/15/2012

The difference in service between SOS and my last oil & propane suppliers is night and day. With budget-billing, price cap plan, auto fill, and a service contract I never worry about my fuel deliveries. My boiler shut down on a frigid Sunday and SOS sent a repair person within a few hours. Everyone I have dealt with at the company has been very helpful & pleasant. more

Pretty good 2/15/2012

I'm pretty satisfied with SOS Fuels. In the past 4 winters of service--the only complaints I would have is: (1) the company doesn't automatically set up the annual tune up with the customers who pay for it ahead of time. As busy as we get, more than a year went by without my boiler getting serviced. When I realized it and brought it up, the rep said the company sends reminders for the cust. to call in and set it up. They send it by mail on a 5X6 card that looks like an advertisement card. It looks like they're trying to sell me something and I throw it out. Maybe there is an ad and a reminder-I don't know. But it's misleading or not getting my attention and for the amount I'm paying for emergency repairs that includes an annual tune-up, it's not satisfactory. Surely it won't happen again because I've caught on and have it on my calendar. (2) I'm supposed to be on automatic fill. Yet I have to call it in all the time because we get too low. Pure luck has saved us from totally missing it needs a fill and calling it in. I don't understand how they figure out the schedule of when to fill and why they haven't changed the schedule since I've called it in so many times over a one year period. So we try a bit harder to stay on top of them. I'm 'complaining' because this is the second time I was asked to review the company. These issues weren't important enough to discuss because their service/tune up guys are GREAT. They've even helped us figure things out over the phone and get the boiler running. If I call in a delivery, they answer the phone right away and send the truck out right away. Even on 2 occasions where it fell on a weekend. I feel they are fare in their pricing and honest about costs. I use SOS because the previous owner used them. I would only look into another company if I wasn't satisfied. I have never asked around about the competition or tried to compare price or quality of service with other companies because I believe one way or another we pay ahead or we pay later for good service. more

Engineer Review 2/15/2012

I am a Civil Engineer and after thoroughly researching options and six companies to install a new heat pump and hydro-air equipped, air handler at my home, decided on SOS. The decision was based on knowledgeable sales staff, the equipment manufacturer (LENNOX), SEER rating, potential for rebate and total cost. The sales staff not only sold the job, but stayed with the project throughout the installation and start-up period. I wrote a contract that outlined what I expected and they were more than amenable to an extended trouble shooting period if needed. I have recommended SOS to other building professionals and will continue to do so. more

Great service. Bad service charge. 2/14/2012

Although my annual service charge was always included in my monthly balanced billing payment, this year the bill says, "...not included in your balanced billing..." and SOS is demanding my $400.00 regular payment PLUS a $351.42 "non-budget amount". This is unfair, and I CANNOT pay it! After being a customer for some 15 years I expect some understanding! I will have to see if this can be paid from the overage in my account. I don't know what I will do if they refuse and demand the extra payment. What colossal gall! I really don't mind if you tell them who I am. I will be calling them soon on this matter. more

I've always been very happy with their service for heating oil, and recently I made them my propane supplier as well. When I inquired about the on-demand water heaters they sell, the SOS rep ran some numbers and told me it wasn't worth it for my situation; they could have just sold me the equipment and made money off me, instead they were honest and gave me an honest answer. more
