Best

The food and service is always great! Go on Sundays for 1/2 off bottle of wine and get the red curry!!!! :) :)

My husband and I love trying new restaurants and sampling the best of what Nashville has to offer. I have to agree with the other postings that Rumba has some excellent drinks an...

Stay away 11/25/2007

I too recently had a horrible experience @ Rumba. Billed hats are not permitted!? Where are we and what kind of restaurant do you think this is? Maybe I am wrong and this is really a wanna-be high end restaurant that wishes the food was decent at best. Your food is horrible. Its not good, and if you think its anywhere close to dress code quality, please go to Jackson's to be reminded. But, at least there's no dress code @ Jackson's! Oh, and they have two kitchens? Reason, i'm not sure, b/c my girlfriend and I ordered at the same time, i got a flatbread from the ""fuego"" kitchen and she got the seared tuna sandwhich. I recieved mine first, waited almost ten minutes for her to get a SEARED TUNA sandwhich, then began eating so my flatbread didn't get cold, and almost finished before this sandwhich came out. AND, i still had to go to the bar to get another drink, b/c our waitress was too busy smoking and talking with someone at the side door. Come on guys, if you think this is dress code quality, then hurry up with my lame food so i can put my hat back on. \r \r As a chef, we're trying to improve the quality of Nashville's dining scene, not the attitude. In attempt to support this, i would advise anyone to take your ballhat and go eat somewhere decent. Pros: Nothing comes to mind. Cons: Everything. more

Fun Place, Terrible Parking 8/7/2007

I had a Friday night out with the girls a few weeks ago and we decided upon Rumba. The parking is terrible. Either you valet or you park a mile away. The atmosphere is really fun and all of the employees are as well. We ordered a few different dishes that way we could try a little of everything. Our server was really fun and recommeded several dishes that we loved. Their mojitos are the best!! We stayed until they closed (2 am) and had a wonderful time. If you're going for a romantic quiet night out, I wouldn't recommed Rumba it's definitely more of a girl's night out place. It's loud and pretty small. The parking is no fun but the food was above average and the atmosphere was so much fun. I loved it! Pros: Trendy Atmosphere, Good Food Cons: Parking more

This place thinks they are higher quality than they are 8/6/2007

I went to Rumba with my wife and two friends on Saturday night. As we were seated, I was accosted by the hostess and told to remove my ball cap. I would have been fine with that, but the way I was told was completely inappropriate. I kindly asked why and she went on to explain that they allow no billed caps or sports apparel. I asked if i needed a jacket and tie. Next, we were seated in the bar, where we were told was the smoking section, upon further review..... the actual bar is the only smoiking section, only 3 feet away. We were told that we would have to go to the bar to smoke. I bit my tongue. As we ordered and our meal came, there were numerous people standing next to me smoking and blowing smoke on me, I was appauled that because I asked for a table I could not smoke. As I finished my meal, I turned and notice a woman standing next to me, smoking or course and wearing a Mississippi State Volleyball T-shirt. What happened to this so called dress code. The food was sub-par at best and was not all brought out at once. The servers are dressed in less than you would find walking around in the local gentlemen's club and customers cannot wear hats? Go figure. This was the most miserable dining experience I have had in a long time. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I will never grace this establishment with my presence again. For those looking for McDonald's quality food served in an extravagant asian type display with attitude from the staff you would find in 5-star restaurants in New York, I would recommend you waste your time and money and eat at Rumba. Cons: Service, Food, Quality, Price, Attitude from employees more

Cool place 5/3/2007

I took some out of town friends there back in Febuary, without trying it myself first! I was really happy with the experience. The food was DELICIOUS, and the interior was really cool. I had the Pom-Mojito and it was SOOOO good. We went back a couple weeks later and had another good experience. The food is different and yummy! I had the cupcake trio dessert and it was SOOOO good! Especially the Bananas Foster one! My friend had the smores and they were good too! I recommend this place and can't wait to go back! I just wish it was a little cheaper, b/c after drinks and ordering things a la carte, my bf and I can't seem to get out of there under $60 dollars! Those mojitos are so good I can't stop at one! The service was decent, not excellent, but not horrible. I think the first time we went they didn't give us silverware, and then after the meal they took it away even though we had ordered dessert! So we had to ask a 2nd time in one meal for eating utensils! But it wasn't a big deal, we aren't difficult diners! Pros: MOJITOS! Cons: A tad pricey b/c so much stuff is a la carte more

One of most enticing menus in town 3/13/2007

There are so many good choices on this menu from all sorts of different cuisines that we keep coming back again and again. The Frankies, Tempura Roll, and Satay are wonderful. The quality is always top notch. The dark atmosphere and tall booths make the tables intimate even when the place is packed. We've had birthday parties on the patio, brought in friends and parents from out of town and everyone's been impressed. Love the mojitos and sangria. No mojito flavored mixer here!\r Now if they'd just ban the smoking it would be a 10. Pros: Food, Drinks, Ambience Cons: Food's too good to have smoke drifting around more

Customer service needed improvement. 12/31/2006

Everything is ala carte even the bread. Overpriced for what you get. The jerky pork entree was served with an item that had uncooked frozen greens of some nature. The taste was terrible. The curry shrimp needed more sauce. The rosemary bread was just pizza dough with dried rosemary sprinkled on top. The small portion that was served was not worth $4.00. Pros: Location Cons: Bad food and no parking more

Great Tapas, Even Better Drinks 11/16/2006

If you like Tapas (small plates), the menu here is diverse and unique. The selections on the drink menu are surprising, with mango mojitos and Brazilian Caiprinas. Our server was friendly and food delivery was prompt. more

Sangria 43 11/12/2006

You have to try this drink. If you like Sangria you will love this and never go back to that regular wine with juice stuff again. I have been here to eat and to just sit at the bar. The bartender has always been great, I have had slow service when eating. The food is good and the fish was very well prepared, not common for Nashville. I keep going back for that DRINK. I may be there tonight! Pros: Trendy but relaxing Cons: Not open for lunch more

Discover the joy of the mojito!! 11/6/2006

A really wonderful spot to get delicious food that you can't get just anywhere. The madras mojito is so good I can hardly manage to try any of the other cocktails on their extensive list. Remember to take some cash to tip the valets, as it is NOT worth the headache to try and park without them, and they seriously hustle. Everyone is so nice and the atmosphere is very relaxed, yet fun.\r \r It is one of my most favorite places in Nashville!! more

Best curry! 11/2/2006

This restaraunt has the best curry in Nashville! I love their staff and food! They never skimp on ingredients and are very curteous and friendly. If you are looking for a nice variety of food and a pleasant dining experience - Go Here! Pros: Great Food and Service Cons: Front outdoor seating on West End - some might like cars whizzing by... I don't more

Great First Date 10/24/2006

A perfect late night option as you night cap your romantic rondevoux with a Classic Mint Mohito. The atmosphere is chic, the booths are cozy, and there are even TV's for you guys that ditched the latest Yankees game to take out your cutie. They have a delicious tapas type of menu as well if you head out for an afternoon thing. Cons: A little dim for a dinner, but perfect lighting for a hot night cap more

have taken every visiting friend and family member, favorite restaurant! 9/14/2006

Rumba manages to combine a funky atmosphere with above average food. The waiters are very sociable and chatty but also determined to make it a good experience. The two menus are both great though it is hard to order off of both because of the two kitchens. Recommend the tempura green beans. Have never had another in my party dislike their menu choice. Also has a GREAT sangria cocktail! Pros: great food, great patio, great service Cons: loud and smoky, crowded at night more

Get the mango mojito when you go 7/9/2006

Rumba has the coolest ambience. The patio is one of the best in Nashville in my opinion, the wait staff is very cool and friendly, and my favorite part is the mango mojitos. The vanilla mojito is good too...actually I love all of them. :) The nachos, jurk chicken (misspelled b/c this thing won't let me spell it the right way!) and chicken salad are all very yummy. Pros: Ambience, drinks, patio Cons: parking lot more

View from the bar.... 5/2/2006

I've been here several times, although not recently. During every visit except one I have sat at the bar. Service there is great, and although I didn't have any exotic drinks, those who were with me enjoyed theirs. Great rum selection, and Speedy the bartender is one of the best in Nashville (I'm assuming he's still there). Appetizers are wonderful and a great value, I especially enjoyed the Satay. The atmosphere indoors is open and interesting. Great place to eat or stop for a drink. Pros: Food (appetizers), Drinks and Bartenders, Value more

Fabulous Experience! 4/25/2006

We've been to Rumba a bunch of times and have had great luck. The menu is leaps and bounds more creative than most of the trendy restaurants in Nashville. The chef truly understands fusion cusine and does a great job meshing Caribbean, Latin American and American flavors. Last night we started with rosemary flatbread, sopa de ajo (garlic broth soup) and a wasabi caesar salad, all of which had amazing flavor combinations. Our server was very attentive but still laid-back, and all in all we had a perfect experience. Surprisingly good wine list and unusual, tasty mixed rum drinks, too. Pros: Outside seating, Great Service, Laid-Back Atmosphere Cons: Limited parking more

Very Pleasantly Surprised 4/20/2006

My motive for going was the buy one get one free coupon from the Citipass book but after reading the reviews I went with the knowledge and expectation of horrible service but I was thrilled with our server, Lindsay, she was extremely attentive and friendly. The food was very good - the satay was delish but dessert was a dissapointment. The decor inside is shabby trendy caribbean-ish. We opted to sit out on the patio that features a breath taking view of the new West End Starbucks. We didnt even get attitude over using the coupon like in some places. Over all I say it was excellent and worth going back for. They even give out little complimentry to-go coffee cakes to the gals only. Pros: Awesome Food, Great Server Lindsay, Valet Parking Cons: Bad Patio View more

utterly disappointing 4/14/2006

We bought a gift certificate to Rumba and were very eager to spend it. We ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees in that order. My sister ordered a pizza which arrived 5mi ns before our 1st appetizer hit the table. A couple of mins later, our appetizers arrived, and 30 sec after that so did our entrees. The waitress scrambled to move my plate and glass around in order to make room on the already crowed table for our entrees. I told her that we hadn't even had a chance to touch our appetizers yet, she offered to hold our food in the kitchen which I declined to do. My the time I reached my tuna, it was cold. We waited about 15 mins for the server to come back to our table so that I could ask her to ""re heat"" my food. The service was horrible! more

WONDERFUL FOOD, MOJITOS & STAFF 9/23/2005

I note that there are a couple of disparaging reviews about the staff. Not so . . . they were wonderful. I did notice one man try to ""use attitude"" to weasle his way onto the patio without reservation. The more he whined, the less he got. BE A MENSCH . . . use communication and social skills and you will get top notch treatment, here and anywhere. I also recommend you call ahead for outside dining . . . seems to be popular on nice evenings. They had covered patio, valet parking, and heaters at the ready for the autumn nights. I shouldn't even do this review as people are gonna hear about this restaurant and I won't be able to get a table! LOL Pros: RUM DRINKS, RUM DRINKS, RUM DRINKS more

Many talents 8/15/2005

First, I must say Chef Ben Kirk out did hisself! The Fuego (open oven) menu is creative and excellent. The main menu's food's presentation was fiestive and the taste/flavor is amazing. The desserts are scrumpish, I wish I had a chef at home like this one. The drinks are fun and exotic. The wait staff is fun and energetic. This is not your stuffy restaurant. Yet, it is professional and well put together. I recommend Rumba to anyone and everyone who is tired of boring corporate restaurants. Pros: FOOD, staff, ddrinks Cons: parking/have valet more

Horrid Service 8/12/2005

Absolutely the worst inattentative disinterested waitstaff ever encountered in a restaurant. The food was decent when it arrived. As a group, 'haven't you gotten your food yet"" is not a refrain you're expecting to overhear from your customers. Pros: Location Cons: Service, Food, Waitstaff more
