Great Experience! 8/4/2011

I had a great experience with this company. The guy I dealt with was friendly, personable and I didn't feel like he was just trying to sell me something. I would recommend this company to anyone. I did have to pay a deposit but it was refunded just like they said it would be when the loan closed. Other lenders I spoke with had HUGE origination fee's, I was able to avoid them by using RHE. Paperwork was straight forward and although I typically would leave voicemails with questions they would ALWAYS get back to me that same day. Great Company would use again in a heartbeat! more

Saved LOTS of money 6/18/2011

I purchased a second home on the finger lakes and used Rochester Home Equity for my mortgage. I had no problems with them and saved a lot of money based on the bids I got from other lenders. My sister used them and saved a lot of money also. Process was efficient and everything was done by mail and fax. more

Great company to work with 6/11/2011

I am from the downstate area and purchased a home financed through Rochester Home Equity, Inc. I used them because after a week of searching for the best rate and closing costs, they were by far the best - hands down. Yes, there are a lot of papers to sign but I actually prefer that to ensure I have in writing what the terms are. The paperwork is an easy read and not complicated. I paid a lock in fee and everything closed as promised and I was refunded my lock-in fee at closing as the paperwork says. I am referring them to my family and friends as a great place to go for a mortgage with the added bonus of saving money in interest costs as well as closing costs because they are the lowest in the state. more

Be careful 6/8/2011

My wife and I bought a house in Victor and we were directed to RHE by a friend. Lets just say the friend wants nothing to do with them anymore either. Be sure to cross every T and dot every I or a fee will be coming. \r \r They will not use email or allow your real estate agent to speak to them. That is not the case for the rest of the industry. My agent has been in the industry for thirty years ans has been across this before.\r \r The upfront numbers will be good. Turns out you get what you pay for in lending as well.\r \r By the way, i noticed people down playing the negative reviews as someone with bad credit. I gaurentee that is not the case with us. Our credit is perfect, paid every bill in full and on time my entire life. more

Great Mortgage 5/27/2011

I shopped around and Rochester had the lowest interest rates and closing costs. The paperwork was clear and to the point. The only downside is there was a lot of papers but I guess the mortgage world requires that these days. I saved money and had a great experience. more

Pressure Tactics 5/6/2011

We found them to be very high pressure -- we would advise everyone to do what I did not do - homework. Before paying their lock-in fee, check other companies for rates, closing costs and if they have lock-in fees. Do your homework for your financial health. We are very sorry we did not. more

Good Mortgage 7/11/2009

I got a mortgage from Rochester Home Equity and was totally satisfied with their service and rates. I live in Buffalo and they handled my closing from Rochester. Everything went smooth and rates and closing costs were the same as what was told to me. The guy that complained seemed to have bad credit. No wonder he is an angry person - pay your bills on time! As far as validity of this post - email me at the email given on this site with your phone number and I'll call you and tell you the same thing. Always two sides to every story and rather trash someone for doing their job and turning a deadbeat down isn't wrong in my book. Anyway, Rochester Home Equity did a great job for me and by the way no attorney named John represented the bank - it was a woman! Pros: Good company Cons: nothing more

Saved money 5/31/2009

I am not long on writing reviews so I'll be short. I am in Manhattan and used Rochester for my mortgage. They offered me better rates and closing costs than my employer (a money management firm) Yes I paid a lock in fee but got it back at closing like the paperwork says. Nothing bad to say other than had to deal on the phone which was fine in the end since I am a busy person and we ended up doing everything by mail. Closing costs were cheap also. I go there again and referred some people in our office to them. Pros: everything fine Cons: no local office more

Thank you for your help - you were GREAT! 5/29/2009

I am from Canada and wanted to purchase a home in Rochester and after research and a recommendation from a friend, I applied with Rochester Home Equity. They returned my call promptly and my loan closed without a problem. I actually feel guilty because my rate and closing costs were so much lower than what the real estate agent presented to me from another lender. I hope they made some money. THANKS! Pros: Everything Cons: nothing more

Great Place! 5/22/2009

It's hard to believe negative posters in this section. I closed on a loan with Rochester Home Equity, Inc. a few days ago and had a wonderful experience. My rate and closing costs were the lowest around. Yes, they did have a lot of papers to sign but don't all lenders? Everything was spelled out clearly and they honored everything they said they would do. If you want to pay more - go somewhere else. If you want to save money and get a low interest rate and save a lot on closing costs - Rochester Home Equity, Inc. is for you. Pros: Great experience more

Great Place for a mortgage 5/19/2009

I got a mortgage with Rochester Home Equity. Everything went well and I saved a ton of money. They have the lowest rates and costs. Got lock fee back as they said at closing and closed with no problems. Nice to deal with. No problems or issues. Pros: All good with cool people more

Wonder Rate and Service - thank you 5/13/2009

I was shocked to read some of the other reviews posted and had to post my own. I am a retired school teacher and applied with Rochester Home Equity for a refinance of my home and had a wonderful experience. My income is not what it used to be and they worked with me to qualify and guided me step-by-step through the whole process. It was a pleasure. As for the others - probably a disgruntled home owner who is mad at the world for his mistakes. In any event, I had a very positive experience and want to say ""thank you, Rochester Home Equity."" Pros: Everything more

VERY HAPPY WITH MY MORTGAGE 5/11/2009

I am a practicing attorney in the area and after closing many transactions for my clients using Rochester Home Equity, Inc. (""RHE""), I decided to use RHE for my own mortgage. Their service was above average in this busy market and the rates are the absolute lowest in town. I've read the other reviews on this company and don't understand what issues anyone would have with RHE. The documentation is clear and unambiguous as to refundability. I paid a lock fee and received it back at closing as promised. All consumers should be aware of any mortgage company but I can only speak of my experiences and it has been a very positive one for both my clients and I. Pros: Best rates and lowest costs more

Low interest rates and closing costs - saved money 2/1/2009

I applied with Rochester Home Equity, Inc. due to low rates and found them useful. They offered me the option to lock into a rate with an expiration date. I did everything that was required and closed without a problem. They had a low rate and cheap closing costs so I saved a lot of money. The only peeve I have is that they weren't able to speak to me live each time I called. I had to leave messages but someone always called me back. I guess most lenders are busy with a lot of calls so it was no biggie but would have liked not to play the message game. Pros: Great rates, low closing costs Cons: Wasn't able to speak with someone live when I called and had to leave message but they always called me back more

Trow your money in the GARBAGE 1/26/2009

My wife and I were drawn to Rochester Home Equity Inc. (RHE) because we noticed a low interest rate. As first time home buyers with excelent credit rating of 765, we jumped at the chance. We were told that we had to ?LOCK -N? this rate to get the mortgage commitment. After a loss of $4,500.00 because our closing date did not happen within the 60 days of the lock-in rate, we were to told to continue this mortgage agreement we had to lock-in again at an additional $3,440.00.\r BE WARNED ? You never have to lock-in !!! Do not do business with Rochester Home Equity Inc.\r Odys A Kurek Pros: None - everyone talks in circles and never tell you the straight story Cons: the entire ordeal- at the end they make you feel like it is all your fault for being ignorant of their rules. more
