My experience 12/15/2009

I have been going to Robert's for the past 8 years to get my hair cut and colored, since I was in high school. I have seen about 4 different stylists since I've gone there. I think that some of the problems people seem to have has to do with price or individual stylists. I have had 2 stylists there that I have seen long term. My current one I've seen her for 5 years now. She is very good at color, but I have found it is helpful to be very direct and specific. I have also asked to be shown pictures of what she has in mind, so she doesn't misunderstand me. She also is very attentive when I wait on my color. I have had many people ask me where I get my hair done and who by. So I have definitely sent business their way. The most negative experience I had there was when my regular stylist wasn't available on my winter break several years ago and I took a first available stylist. I'm not sure if she still works there, but she seemed very out of touch with what I was saying. And I essentially wanted a shorter version of my current hair cut. And she cut it twice as short as my ideal cut, when I was specific with length. It also looked completely off. I also have issue with the price. I can only afford to get my hair done about 3 times a year, because I want to stick with my stylist. I would come in more if it wasn't so expensive. I would recommend they do a customer comment card system online or in store. I think many people don't want to offend someone, so they leave and never come back. Then they never know why, so I don't know how they'd improve. more

Masage was just BLAHH 5/23/2009

I went here for a massage and for an hour non-stop I heard about the therapists' life problems... I could not relax at all, plus I can't believe she even graduated from anywhere, she couldn't massage a blow-up doll right. I do not recommend her to anyone, ever. more

Long Time Customer - Left 3 Years Ago 5/3/2009

This was my salon for years - even if the stylists came and went - and they sometimes did. The prices were a little high, but I always had very good or excellent results with my hair and was NEVER dissatisfied with my hair in over 14 years of various styles and lengths. I loved Robert's and they loved me - I easily spent $1,200-$1,500 a year there when you include all the services and products. However, I decided to end my relationship there because the woman who had done my hair for the last 3-4 years suddenly became rude and even obnoxious to me. I could not believe it! I have NEVER experienced this anywhere else with any other stylist - and I should have made my complaints - but instead I just took my business elsewhere. I am seeing a much nicer, very talented stylist at another salon who charges less and does a very good job. I admit my old stylist at Robert's was better at hair, but her people skills were horrible. P.S. She no longer works there! Go figure - but I will NEVER return there. I agree with other reviews here - the atmosphere is harried and stressed. Too many people working in there - and a lot of turnover problems - usually a bad sign about management. Pros: Great Colorist Cons: Rude Colorist more

Long time friendly 11/27/2008

Always friendly, accomodating, and determined to get us customers what we need. While Roberts often is busy, I have never found the folks at the desk or the stylists or the therapist to be anything other than helpful and freindly. If I have to wait a short moment at the desk, my Roberts stylist or therapist stays with me. I have frequently received retrun calls to inform me of schedule openings. Nice folks on the south side. Pros: Great staff Cons: Restrooms more

Annoying employees 9/23/2008

I have been going to the salon since I was younger because my mother has went there. I personally find the place stressful. There are wayyy too many UNHAPPY employees working there. Another thing that drives me nuts, is that everytime you walk in there all 20 of the people they have "working" at the front desk are too busy gossiping or dwelling on their not so great looks. The prices aren't too terrible, but considering that the services aren't as good as others I have had then they are too high. I would just say that this isn't the type of place that is very friendly. They have their highschool like cliques and I have now moved to Tyler Mason which I'm very happy at. more

Relax and Enjoy 12/4/2007

I have only had few massages in my life and was not sure what to expect. The folks at Robert's made sure I was comfortable and even let me pick what music I listened to while I received my service. I cannot remember a time that I have ever felt truly relaxed. With this being a first for me, it took some time to get used to the fact that I did not have to do anything. My massage therapist did all the work. After you get the hang of it, you really get to enjoy all the benefits. My therapist was very knowledgable and made sure I was comfortable throughout the service. She targeted some "problem" areas I had and really worked through them to make sure I was on track. When we finished she made sure of what I was to do at home to get the most out of my service. I really enjoyed myself and will return again. more

Hometown Heroes 12/4/2007

As the branch manager of a medium sized paper producing company, I feel I have the pulse of how an organization this size operates. Let me just start by saying that personal grooming is very important. How can you expect to sell anything if you don't look like you care to sell anything. I could tell from the minute I walked in to this establishment I was in for the treat of my life. I was greeted warmly. I was offered a hot beverage. Then it happened. As I was about to indulge in my 4th pack of complimentary peanuts, she walked up and introduced herself. The stunningly beautiful stylist who was to give me the haircut that would change my life. As we left the reception area I was taken into the styling area which was decorated impeccably with pictures that looked like they had been ripped out of Elle or Cosmo or Oprah. (I later found out they were actually clients of the salon.) My hair was shampooed and conditioned and a mini scalp massage was thrown in to make the experience all the more relaxing. My stylist was very interested in my opinion of what I wanted, but still let me know what she thought would be the best cut for my face and head shape. I excused myself to use the bathroom and have never seen a more sanitary facility in my life. Spacious and personal is what I like in a bathroom. When I returned, my stylist was very precise and professional as she went to work on my unkempt locks. I was surprised to find out that she was more interested in hearing about me than she was in telling me about her. Even when I told her about the booze cruise I took my branch employees on in an attempt to boost office morale. As we finished and proceeded to the checkout desk, she confidently asked me to rebook which told me that she greatly enjoyed my company and was looking forward to seeing me again. I paid my bill and as I left, I could not help but feeling that we may have started what could be a long and beautiful friendship. Thank you, Robert's Salon. more

Prices constantly on the incline 11/22/2007

Have been a regular client of Roberts Salon for over 12 years & simply love my hair styles & nail tech; but due to the fact that Mr. Pence loves the color of "green" he has simply over-priced what he demands his employee's to charge for services. The place is nice on the inside but nothing outstanding to justify the amount being charged for services. A perm, cut & style for short hair will run $180 to $220 while one manicure is $30 with an additional $5 for french. Over the past couple of years, I have noticed a large volume of turn over with the staff & have heard discussion of being unhappy & discontent among the staff. Due to the regularly scheduled increase in services (not that the individuals providing the services are getting the increase - they only get 40%) I have had to make the dicision to no longer be a regular client of Roberts Salon but instead seek hair & nail services elsewhere within the community. I have been blessed to find a salon where the entire staff is relaxed, friendly, yet professional where the prices for services are much more client friendly & is just as close to my home as Roberts but in the opposite direction. Mr. Pence needs to realize that the clients who come on a regular bases are his true "bread & butter". **To inform the lady who posted just before me, as of the 20th of December 2007, Dede will no longer be with Roberts. Pros: serve coffee or tea with services Cons: extremely over priced for all services more

Loved my nails and my hair!! 11/10/2007

I enjoyed my visit and have been getting so many comments on my hair (Debi)! It is so hard to get a good short haircut but I got one there. I loved my nails too - someone actually speaks to me when I am getting a mani/pedi!! (Not used to that where I used to go) NOT your typical nail services that you can get at any strip mall - These were great services. The employees were very nice and I will go back. I cost a little more than I was used to paying but it was worth the money. more

Large, impersonal, wasn't very happy with color 4/17/2007

I wasn't a big fan of this salon. I didn't get exactly what I wanted as there was a misunderstanding in the meaning of "streaks," despite the photo I brought in that I stated I wanted to get as close as possible to. It was also really large and impersonal. I think a different person washed my hair each time and an inexperienced girl dryed it (ouch!!) There are a lot of assistants to handle what the stylists can't be bothered with while they're trying to get as many clients in as possible. It was also no deal, I spent $230 in total, as well as 5 hours because my color was being treated as "corrective" even though my hair was a plain brown with caramel highlights, and not especially damaged. A waste of time and money and I wasn't thrilled with the end result. Pros: i can't really think of any! Cons: impersonal, pushy, costly, time consuming more
