AWFUL experience! 11/24/2010

Riverside Inn was a HORRIFIC experience! We decided to go to Riverside for my mothers 50th birthday. We wanted to go somewhere special, for this was a milestone in her life. We made reservations for 10 people at 5:30PM. When we arrived, we walked through the empty dining room. We were the only table that was there and now I know why. Our waitress was unable to keep up with our drinks. We decided to send my cousins to the bar, because it was taking entirely way too long to get a drink. We ordered appetizers; my mom (the birthday girl) really wanted the asparagus which was one of the choices. The server waited twenty minutes after my mom ordered it to let her know there was no asparagus in the house. OK, whatever…we finally got our appetizers after waiting an hour! NO JOKE! I got the artichoke dip, it was awful. They put half artichokes in a very thin cheese sauce that you had to basically spoon onto the bread. YUK! After we ate our appetizers, we waited an additional 45 minutes for our food to come out. Our waitress was nowhere to be found in between waiting periods. We continued to go to the bar to get our own drinks. Finally my mom got up and asked for the manager. The chef came out and apologized, saying there was staff issues, but it would be much better now that he was in the kitchen! OK, we were thinking maybe a little relief..at least our dinners would be good. Boy, was I wrong!! Where did they find this so-called “Chef”. WOW! When we got our food, it was awful! Steaks done way to well, food wasn’t fresh, people who ordered mashed potatoes got baked, and so on. Prime Rib meal and steak got sent back to kitchen because of being so overly cooked. By that time, I didn’t even want what they were going to bring me because I was disgusted at this point. THEN, a waitress comes over and says to our table “Well, to make light of everything…I had a son that was in a bad car accident and was severely hurt….even though the food was bad, at least you have each other and that’s what matters!” more

Victorian Charm 7/10/2010

My daughterand her boyfriend from New Jersey, I and my sister went for the 4th of July Celebration and had a wonderful time, there was something for everyone! We had the $9. dinner and they were still serving after 7:30 pm. I would say the food was worth it. We toured the rooms that weren't occupied and checked out the bar and dining area(closed then) walked the wonderful wraparound porch. We looked at and read many of the historic items on the walls and displayed behind glass inside the Inn, antique furniture, chandeliers, it was marvelous! The grounds were lovely and if not for a holiday, a very peaceful location to reflect on how it must have been "way back when". The 4th of July Celebration was topped off at 10pm with fireworks that were pretty spectacular. I live in the area and plan to spend a weekend before the summer/fall is over and want to do the Dinner Theater and I would return for another 4th of July and have recommended it to my children when they come to visit from out of state. Terrible dining experience. 5/10/2010

We went to the Riverside Inn for the Mother's Day buffet on May 9, 2010 and it was absolutely horrible. We were seated and it was in excess of 15 minutes before a server showed up for beverage orders. There wasn't an excuse for it as the dining room was roughly half-empty. This is not usual for the Mother's Day buffet here as it is normally quite full. It was apparent that the servers did not want to be working. They were very unmotivated and simply didn't seem to care. There was butter on the table but no bread/ After another 20 minutes had passed we had to ask for the bread. The buffet itself was terrible. There was a "variety" with regard to selection but it mostly appeared picked over and never replentished. Roughly half of the items on the salad bar were empty. One of the two soups were emply. The cheese table had cheese but the cracker basket was empty. The hot buffet was picked over and what was there was dry and not very flavorful. We typically go to the Riverside for the Mother's Day buffet but it was extraordinarily disappointing and we will not be back again. I spoke with a co-worker this morning and she was at a banquet there on Friday, May 7th. She said their meal was terrible as well. It appears this is the new norm since the ownership change. more

Good: Very poor experience. No notable positives.. Bad: We went to the Riverside Inn for the Mother's Day buffet on May 9, 2010 and it was absolutely horrible. What an awsome place to walk around 4/11/2006

I had the pleasure of being here on a couple of separate occasions. The rooms are incredible and the antiques even better. It is worth just stopping in to look around even if the dinner theater is not going on. If you have a chance to catch the show I would recommend that as well. Around Halloween the decorations are great. Worth the drive just to look around. more
