Worst dining experience in years 8/14/2008

My husband and I chose this place based on the great reviews and the fact that it is always busy in the evenings, so I will preface this by saying that it may have been a bad night for them. But it was a really bad night. Pros: Ample parking, quick seating, friendly server. Cons: Awful food, long wait for food, lack of quality control more

Best steak and service!!! 6/19/2008

My daughter had her wedding rehearsal dinner at Ristorate Bottaio and it was a fabulous dinner. The service was outstanding also. There wasn't one person who didn't rave about the Chicken Marsala, and the Filet Mignon. They melted in your mouth. My husband who loves steak, usually puts A-1 steak sauce on his meat, no matter how good it is, (makes me cringe, lol) tasted the steak and said he in not putting A-1 on this cuz it had the best seasoning and taste he has ever had! That was a shocker to me. He couldn't stop talking about how wonderful it was, as did everyone else who ordered it. That is now our new place to go. I don't know how expensive it was, as it was a large group hosted my the grooms father, but no matter the price, it was worth every mouth watering bite. Next time, I'll have to try some of the other wonderful meals they have on their menu. Pros: Great service and delicious food more

A lot like Italy 1/26/2006

After living in Southern Italy for 3 years, my husband and I had high expectations when it came to Italian food. Ristorante Bottaio was no disappointment. The food was surperb and the environment made us feel as if we are back in Italy. I would highly recommend this restaurant for those looking for a true Italian dinner experience. Pros: Valet Parking, Beautiful Environment, Great Service more

Pleasant and value for money 5/17/2004

We spend a very pleasant evening with three young childeren at this restaurant. The choice in starters is varied and of high quality, Calimari and antipasta of Italian quality (including grilled vegetables) With childeren actually spooning the salad dressing believe it speaks for itself. For the adults the grilled white fish and Risotto with Scallops went well with recommended Pinot Grigio. For the childeren truly half portions at half price were served of ""adult food""; spaghetti with Perch Fillets, Pasta with Shrimp and thin crust pizza with salami. The choice in deserts was outstanding, as the Lemon sherbet icecream went down as a treat (as the Profiteroles and Titramisu). It was nice to find an Italian restaurant in the US that serves more that just the standard Pizza and Paste. All in all this dinner set us back by US$ 160 excluding tip, and it was worth it. Pros: Good parking, Value, Quality more

Heavely Food Awaits at Bottaio 8/8/2002

Free Valet! Host Marco DiMarco is a wonderful Italian gentleman who seated us. We had a wonderful appetizer combination with mixed bruschetta, proscuitto and fresh mozzarella, fresh rapini and asparagus as well as a combination of both grilled calamari and grilled octopus. Our bottle of wine, a 1997 Brunello was affordable and went perfecly with everything. After two nice salads, we split a veal special and a pasta...medallions of veal served with mixed peppers and jumbo shrimp in a wonderful tasting light wine sauce. The pasta was fettucini with mussels, clams, calamari and jumbo shrimp served in a light tomato sauce. Both were wonderful. We ended dinner with tiramisu (awesome), two esspresso's and a snifter of grappa. I was very pleased...you will be to when you get to this gem in the subburbs. I live in Evanston...the drive only took us about 30 minutes...and it was worth it. more
