Best

Located off the beaten path, the food and atmosphere are authentic. The service is great and I love the honey wine. It is a unique experience and one of our favorite places to go.

Nice change of pace 6/20/2011

Ras Kassa's is a nice change of pace. Very good food that is unique and seems very healthy. Friendly service. Nice ambiance. I must admit that the indoor dining is a bit uncomfortable for me with the stools arranged around trays. But the patio is wonderful. Treat yourself to a nice, unique experience here. more

Great food 2/13/2007

My husband and I had a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant has great options for vegetarians and meat lovers.\r The waitress was very nice and attentive. If you don't mind eating with your hands, this restaurant is definitely worth a try. We plan to dine there again. more

AMAZING HONEY WINE. 2/7/2007

i was very excited to try this place. walking in there you're like 'oooooo this is exotic' and yes, it is.\r its really fun because you eat with your hands, and the food is not heavy or overdone its very simple and very good. go here if you're into trying new things and being in an ambiance that makes you feel like you're no longer in boulder. more

Unique resturant 11/13/2006

I'm not sure if it's authentic or not, but I can tell you that the food was excellent. The place was unique and enjoyable. The finger eatting didn't bother me at all; it , in fact enhanced the atmosphere. I've gone there in groups and used it for a quiet romantic dinner, in both instances the place didn't didn't disappoint. Pros: Atmosphere more

This food is good? Wouldn't know...never got any... 9/21/2006

Well, I must say, this is the worst place ever. Why? Because all I got was a glass of water. 45 minutes after ordering my drink, appetizer, and food, NOTHING. My husband and I just decided to get up and leave, and as we were leaving our WAITRESS was standing at the bar with another waitress and was saying, ""Have a nice night!"" as we walked out the door\r \r Yea, you too. more

Doesn't taste authentic 2/20/2006

Hello everyone. I'm really sorry to dissent with most of the reviews and what practically everyone I know thinks about this place, but I don't think it's good Ethiopian. The spicy vegetables and the kik alicha (I think they call it yellow split peas, or yellow split pea soup) are good, and the kik alicha tastes reasonably authentic. Otherwise, I wasn't crazy over the food, and it definitely didn't taste like Ethiopian. Granted, Ethiopian is my very favorite food, and I have eaten it in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, San Francisco...even Phoenix, which shockingly has great Ethiopian, so I'm admittedly jaded and snotty. This is the worst I've ever had, which is still not bad since Ethiopian is the best! If anyone knows of good Ethiopian in the Denver/Boulder area, I would love to know about it. Pros: nice atmosphere, friendly service Cons: not authentic more

my favorite restaurant in boulder 1/4/2006

the service is friendly, the food is unique, and its just a great evening out whenever. it does tend to be quite filling and on the exensive side, so i reccomend ordering one entree less then the number of people eating, and then getting an appetizer. if that happens, it get to the right price and everyone is full. that is, of course, if you are willing to share, which really is a good part of the fun. Pros: delicious food, nice staff, ethnic feel Cons: baskets, not tables, limited parking, finger eating more

authentic service 12/7/2005

The food was wonderful and different but I really have to praise the wonderful service provided. This is where I really felt that a tip was deserved. The people are extremely personal and friendly, it is NOT the usual rehearsed: "" hi my name is ..., and I'm your waitor for tonight"" Pros: good parking, friendly service, great food Cons: slightly expensive more

best in colorado 12/5/2004

this is creative, fresh, and generously dished out ethiopian food. i've worked my way down all the ethiopian places on colfax and they don't compare. here, the butternut squash comes with fresh fruit cooked in, the wot is the most complex i've tasted, and everything comes with mixed field greens, onions, and tomato, so you can get varied textures in every bite. the trout was WAY overcooked, but it'll be a cold day in august before a restaurant in colorado doesn't overcook fish without specific instructions to leave it flapping. more

Totally Boulder 7/12/2004

The limited menu here offers both vegetarian dishes as well as two chicken, one beef, and one fish selection. We began with both appetizers; a very garlicy hummus and a very garlicy goat cheese dip. I'm writing this the next day and can still taste them. For entrees we chose both the meat combination and the vegetarian combination to get a good sample. My favorites were the yellow split peas and the stewed chicken. The other items were not particularly great. The wine list is very limited and features exclusively inexpensive African wines. We orded the Syrah. It was drinkable, but very young and not complex. As in most Ethiopian restaurants, you will be seated on short stools and eat communally with your hands. Our server was pleasant but not very speedy. In summary, this place is not bad, but not great. Pros: Good Parking, Affordable more

average african 11/25/2002

Ras Kassa is the only ethopian in Boulder, which is better then no ethopian at all. The ambience is terrific, your alway comfortable (if you like sitting on stools, which I do) and everyone is friendly. If your not into real authentic, or are just experimenting, this is good place to start, the injera doesn't seem to be aged long enough and some of the flavors are a bit toned down. The portions aren't huge, but enough to satisfy. Overall, a good experience, but I'd suggest a trip to Denver. Pros: atmosphere, parking Cons: crowded (@ times), pricey, for ethopian more

friendly fun ethnic food 8/10/2002

I have enjoyed the great food here for over 7 years. A friend introduced me to this place, and I've been coming back every since. Even if it's been months since my last visit the owner always recognizes me and welcomes me back. The presentation and food are both excellent. I would sample the honey wine if possible too. When you're done with your repast you will sit back and bask in the glow of a great meal. It's best to take at least one companion to enjoy this with! Pros: great food, ample parking, outdoor patio Cons: sometimes crowded, wait for table more
