ONE OF THE WORST 11/1/2011

One of the worst disappointments we have encountered! There was nothing good about this restaurant. The ambiance, food, service, price-ALL BAD! The four of us were the only ones there at 6 pm - that should have been a clue. We had to ask for condiments, - i.e.- salt & pepper, and remoulade sauce that should have been served with our appetizer. The steaks were the worst we have had. Service was slow, which is hard to understand since we were the only ones there. Even the sides were bad. The creamed spinach that was highly recommended by our waitress, had so much gooey cheese on it that it made it unappetizing. When receiving the check, we had been charged for 2 bottles of wine instead of one. Overall rating should be ZERO!\r \r more

Sweet House Disappointing Almost Meal 6/6/2011

We went to Randy's for a special occasion dinner hoping the meal would be as wonderful as the lovely house the restaurant is located in. We never made it past a drink and appetizer. \r \r We were taken to a side dining room and had it all to ourselves. It was nice and quiet but it felt a bit strange to be the only diners when others were seated in another room. At any rate our server appeared to be not much older than high school age. He kept us waiting a very long time before he took our drink order. Then the drinks took a long time to arrive so we quickly ordered an appetizer before he left again. Then it was another long wait for our stuffed mushrooms to make it to the table. They were NOT worth the wait. We couldn't even eat them. They were soggy and almost cold.\r \r After a long wait to see our young waiter again he asked why we didn't like the appetizer. We told him. Well he agreed that their appetizers weren't very good and that we should just stick to basics like steak and potatoes. He couldn't recommend anything else. \r \r We thanked him for being honest, asked him to take the appetizers off the bill and told him we would finish our drinks and go elsewhere to salvage the evening. He was very sweet and understood completely. \r \r We thought that a manager might come by to apologize or comp our drinks for our wasted trip to their establishment. No, no one came and we left and haven't returned, won't return and suggest that diners not waste their time and money on Randy's. Sorry. more

Overpriced and Underwhelming 4/30/2011

Age and quality do not go hand in hand.\r \r Randy's may be one of Frisco's oldest restaurants, but it is not one of it's best. It is WAY OVERPRICED for the quality and portions you receive. more

Disappointed on Valentines Day 2/14/2010

Made a reservation for my wife and I on Valentines Day. Table wasn't ready for another 30 minutes so we had a drink in the bar. They finally seated us and things started to go awry after that. Ordered another margarita and it came back a very brown color. Could not drink it. I was not sure if it was pure mix and alcohol or what. Ordered a replacement and it wasn't as bad but I sent it back as it was undrinkable as well. My wife ordered steak and I ordered salmon. Her steak was Great. My salmon was raw on the inside and had a very funny taste. The service all night was very slow. When we finally received the bill it had items on it we did not order. I would expect much better food and service for the price and was very disappointed. The last time I ate at Randy's we had a very enjoyable meal. After this meal I am not sure I want to go back. Pros: Great Steak Cons: Everything Else more

Cozy environment, ""Average"" food and service, high prices 4/17/2009

Ordered bone-in ribeye ($40) and lamb chops ($30).\r Ribeye was excellent quality, but they had a difficult time cooking it correctly.\r Waiter claimed that my steak, which was abotu 50% brown/and 50% pink was a medium (it was medium well in my opinion).\r But as I siad, great piece of quality meet (if only it was cooked right).\r \r Lamb chops --STAY AWAY FROM THIS ITEM!\r 4 VERY small chops, dry, over cooked (probably because way too thin to control temperature), and way over salted/seasoned --to the point that you could not taste the lamb at all.\r Honestly, Outback has way better lamb chops than Randy's. (Stick with classic steaks at Randy's --they should be ashamed to have the lamb chops on the menu). It is also unpleasant to have a 3 figure meal and leave hungry enough (my wife who had the lamb) that she went home and immediately ahd to eat.\r \r Asside from the above, I didn't appreciate having a 20% forced gratuity built in to the check. (we were a party of 8 which is probably why). But forcing 20% (vs. 15 or 18), when the waiter's attidude and service was mediocre seemed wrong.\r \r Note: onion rings avertiser was excellent. In fact, the onion rings were far more enjoyable than the $30 sub-standard, tiny lamb chops. lol Pros: Cozy env, high quality beef cuts Cons: Medicore service, inability to cook right, over priced more

Great steak and seafood in the area 10/6/2007

Enjoyed our Friday evening, on October 5th, 2007. Enjoyed watching sports, having a conversation with my partner, and listen to live music while sitting in the bar area. Then went and had a dinner on the patio and was really nice to sit outdoors in such a wonderful evening. Weather was great, food was awesome, service was great, and the ambience was right on key. I had the poblano lime vinegarette salad which was a nice twist in flavors and a sald I would recommend to anyone that is looking for something different. The crawfish filet was a great choice too cause I enjoy a little spice and it had just the right amount. We also had the Seafood platter that was a great combination of grilled shrimp, pan seared scallops and King Crablegs. I look forward to going back and enjoying something else on their menu. Oh, and don't forget to order a nice bottle of wine from the extensive wine list to just put the icing on the cake for the evening...*wink* Pros: Valet Parking Cons: nice selection...wanted everything..LOL more

Randy's Steakhouse 5/20/2003

Very good food in quaint, historic downtown Frisco. Located in beautiful old house, and recently expanded to make room for a piano bar. Have had better meals at this price range (avg. of $25 per item plus extra for sides), but still a good overall value and offers a unique dining experience. more
