My wife and I received a Primo Pasta gift certificate for Christmas and took the opportunity to try it out. Upon entering the building, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. The restaurant was not very busy and I requested a table for two for dinner. What followed was a very bizarre question: ?Would you like to have a booth in the lounge?? This is a perfectly good question when a restaurant is jammed and management is trying to seat as many customers as possible, but in this case, I thought it was a bit weird. Anyway, we asked for a booth in the restaurant and we were quickly seated.
I was expecting a drab, brown decor as described by an earlier review and was pleasantly surprised to discover a copper toned room with a cream colored tiled floor: It's a very modern look that creates a relaxing mood. Granted, it is a bit upscale for Plaistow but is that a bad thing?
We were greeted at the table by a friendly waitress who quickly won us over with her professional yet easygoing style. I took a chance and ordered a soup that the waitress told me the chef had concocted recently. A cream based soup with an interesting combination of spices, mushrooms and asparagus. Just the sort of thing you go out to a restaurant for ? To find a chef with talent and imagination.
To keep the price down towards the amount on the gift card, I ordered a burger and my wife had the mixed grill. The burger was uneventful. After ordering the mixed grill, the waitress came back to tell us that there was no pork and that they would add extra shrimp, steak and chicken in its place. At $18.25 it was a bit disappointing when the plate arrived at the table with predominately chicken as the substitute for the pork.
Overall, we had a wonderful night out and we enjoyed the new decor and the chef and the food shows signs of great things to come. It?s certainly a nice alternative to the cookie-cutter chain restaurants that have popped-up down near Haffner?s. (Phone: 603-819-4320)
Pros: Nice, new modern decor
Cons: Not totally up to speed yet
