Obviously business is so good they can lose a customer 12/18/2009

I took my daughter there tonight - we are longtime Primo customers, from way back when it was a hole in the wall. The place was empty except for 2 tables in the outer dining room. My mother had given us a coupon for $10 off so as a courtesy, I informed the waitress as I gave her the check. Apparently my daughter's dinner does not count as an "entree" and they refused to honor the coupon. The place was EMPTY. Apparently business is so good they can afford to lose not just one customer, but all the people I will tell that they are terrible. And the prices are outrages and the food is not nearly as good as it used to be. No wonder the place is empty at 6:30 on a Friday night. Disgraceful. Cons: mediocre service, bad customer service more

It?s Definitely Not the Plaid Shirt and Coveralls Place it Once Was 1/1/2009

My wife and I received a Primo Pasta gift certificate for Christmas and took the opportunity to try it out. Upon entering the building, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. The restaurant was not very busy and I requested a table for two for dinner. What followed was a very bizarre question: ?Would you like to have a booth in the lounge?? This is a perfectly good question when a restaurant is jammed and management is trying to seat as many customers as possible, but in this case, I thought it was a bit weird. Anyway, we asked for a booth in the restaurant and we were quickly seated. I was expecting a drab, brown decor as described by an earlier review and was pleasantly surprised to discover a copper toned room with a cream colored tiled floor: It's a very modern look that creates a relaxing mood. Granted, it is a bit upscale for Plaistow but is that a bad thing? We were greeted at the table by a friendly waitress who quickly won us over with her professional yet easygoing style. I took a chance and ordered a soup that the waitress told me the chef had concocted recently. A cream based soup with an interesting combination of spices, mushrooms and asparagus. Just the sort of thing you go out to a restaurant for ? To find a chef with talent and imagination. To keep the price down towards the amount on the gift card, I ordered a burger and my wife had the mixed grill. The burger was uneventful. After ordering the mixed grill, the waitress came back to tell us that there was no pork and that they would add extra shrimp, steak and chicken in its place. At $18.25 it was a bit disappointing when the plate arrived at the table with predominately chicken as the substitute for the pork. Overall, we had a wonderful night out and we enjoyed the new decor and the chef and the food shows signs of great things to come. It?s certainly a nice alternative to the cookie-cutter chain restaurants that have popped-up down near Haffner?s. You will always take home a doggie bag!! 12/7/2008

The food is excellent!!! Dont know what some people are thinking! Newly renovated with a great family atmosphere. Prices are great for the enormous portions. You will most certainly take home a doggie bag. Expensive taste without the price tag to match!! Perfect for a night out for two or ten. Staff very friendly and accomodating. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Pros: diverse menu, large portions, good price more

Primo Pasta - Not Changed For the Better 11/11/2008

Primo Pasta used to be one of our favorite restaurants. They served good food at reasonable prices in a bright, friendly family atmosphere with extra touches which made it worth the trip. We just went back following their recent renovation. While some of the above (good food) is still true, I'm afraid the changes made in the renovation have decreased our enjoyment of the Primo Pasta experience. Where the restaurant once was bright and cheerful, you're now surrounded by browns; brown tables, brown walls brown decorations which in combination with reduced lighting make for a rather dark and unwelcoming atmosphere, A favorite extra touch which we always enjoyed, the bread board with beans and beets, is now gone, giving us one less reason to choose Primo over any number of other local restaurants. The soups are still homemade and excellent, but unfortunately now come in smaller portions with the entrees than formerly. One gets the impression that the renovation and new decor were intended to make Primo more "upscale". While it is more airtight (the old building tended to get a little chilly in cold weather), it's also more "uptight", more ordinary, and has fallen in our estimation. more
