Port Restaurant

I have never experienced anything like the Port Restaurant and I hope to never again. I did a search online for the Best Seafood in Cape Cod, and the Port came up. I called ahead and the person on the phone said reservations are only taken for parties of 6 or more, and since I have 4 in my party, I will only wait 10 minutes. It took my friends and I an hour to drive from Truro to Harwich to experience ""the best."" When I walked in, I told the host 4 people, and he laughed at me and said, ""Sorry, we have a two hour waiting list."" I told him how I just called an hour ago and was told it would take 10 minutes. He laughed like a snoody idiot, he was rude, and to top it off the restaurant was half empty. At least over 20 tables were empty. I seek out fine dining every where I go, and this is the first time I ever encountered an experience like this. Completely awful and disgusting. more

I have been going to the Cape for years and have never met a host/manager who treated patrons of their restaurant so poorly and unprofessionally as when recently at the Port. \r \r As with other reviews, there was a mix-up with our parties size as one person in our group at the last minute could not make our reservation. Upon telling the manager/host this, he responded unapologetically that we now had an hour and 45 minute wait and could have a drink at the bar and wait or leave. We explained quite reasonably that there was obviously a table waiting for us to which he responded that there in fact was but we could not have it with a large grin on his face almost challenging us to confront him. He then ignored our party and gave away our table to a group the same size! \r \r Never once did the manager / host offer any apologies and were the rudest, most unprofessional people I have ever met. While the Port might currently be able to get away with horrible service, it will eventually catch-up with this restaurant as more people realize their poor level of client service and satisfaction.\r \r I regret that I can not comment on the food and value at the Port because we were so disgusted with our experience that we decided not to eat there! I never wish our experience on any other person and hence am recommending never wasting your time and money on such an awful establishment.\r \r more

I was visiting the Cape on a girl?s weekend and we made reservations at The Port because we had dinner there last year and really enjoyed our visit. This year, the food was still fabulous, but I will not say that about the hostess staff or 'manager' as she liked to call herself. Our reservations were for 7:30, and we were immediately seated at the soul bar table in the restaurant. There was a LARGE TV hanging over our heads and because of the noise, even that early in the evening, we asked to be moved. We got attitude immediately, and were told that we could wait another hour / hour 1/2 or leave....yup - we were told we could leave. We asked that in the very least the TV was turned off, and that was just not possible (please note that they had no 'game' on, it was just updates). Though the food was great, the rudeness of the hostess staff was HORRIBLE and I will not be coming back. The five of us easily spent $350 on a meal, and I won't go back to have a horrible experience like that again. My suggestion is to take your business else where too!! Pros: Food was excellent and the waitress did a good job Cons: Non-accommodating and tried to make the bar extra space....even when we had a reservation! more

Immediate impression - immaculate.\r Departing impression - coming back again and again!\r Elegant, friendly, chic - and to top it all, delicious and well conceived dishes.\r Try the Goat Cheese and Mango Salad or the Baked Brie and Figs to start.\r Entrees are all superb. Filet Mignon exceptional. And plan on sharing the Bananas Fosters if you intend having a dessert!\r Wonderful atmosphere and decor - lovely, caring management, hostess and staff.\r A ""must visit"" restaurant of the highest quality. more

I having been coming to the Cape for 30 years and despite the beaches, boating and sun the one thing that was missing was a great restaurant. The Port has filled that void. Not only is the food amazing (I love the cowboy steak) but the after dinner crowd keeps the night exciting as well. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. I was recently visiting the Cape on a business trip from LA and was looking for a ""Mom and pop"" place to have a nice meal. I heard about ""The Port"" and gave it a try. It was amazing! From the Hostess to the Wine glasses, everything was better than expected. I was looking for a nice place but never expected this! ""The Port"" is definately a ""mom and pop"" joint with a hip twist. I had such an amazing visit I decided to drag my work partners in from Boston...they loved it! We had cocktails in the bar like it was a cool Hollywood lounge, then made our way to the table for a 'more than fine' dinning experience. Even the Manager recognized me and had a pleasant conversation with us. It's decor is similar to the 'W' Hotel with a 'cozy feel' ingredient added to it. The wine selection is nice and so is their choices of single malted scotch! I also spied a few fun looking martini's that some young ladies were enjoying. But nothing prepared me for the spicey mussels and steak aupoivre that melted in my mouth! Being from LA I thought I would never find a cool and hip place to eat in Cape Cod...how wrong I was. Pros: Large cocktail lounge, service, owner presence, great food Cons: smaller dining area, plan to have a cocktail or two more

From the moment we walked in, I was pleased with what I saw, a chic atmoshere with a beautiful bar and the night only got better from there. The very sweet hostess who sat us was a delight and the wait staff was more then kind; to then have such a fabulous meal made for an exeptional evening. \r \r I am big into atmosphere and the Port has got it, I love the lighting (with the chic fixtures and perfect setting with the dimmer switch- not too bright, not too dark, but just right, everyone looks good under these lights) I love the decor, from the very cool tables (I especially love the circular booths) to the colors chosen for the walls, its a great setting for a date or a night out with friends. \r \r With such great atmoshere comes the sensational menu. From the Mango and Goat Cheese salad to the Lobster Crab Cakes, it is hard to save room for dinner with such amazing salads and appetizers, however it is well worth it. The Thai Salmon was delicious with not too much spice, but just right, the Cucumber Cilantro Yogurt Sauce was heavenly and the Lemon Grass Rice and Spring Vegetable served as a wonderful compliment. With great food, service and atmosphere, I would recommend The Port in a heart beat.\r \r PS- Don't forget dessert, the keylime pie with the chocolate crust is not to be missed! Highly recommended~! The Port offers something for everyone. Great food, fabulous wine , indoor and out door seating, & not to mention attractive friendly staff! Whether you are in the mood for a low key romantic evening or looking for a fun night out with friends the Port caters to all. My favorite on the menu, the Baked Brie & Lemon Pepper Fried Calamari with as nice glass of , Oyster Bay, New Zealand, Pinot Noir!! If you haven't been your missing out ! \r What can I say...every visit to The Port is a great time. The food is delicious, service is very attentive (water and wine glasses are never empty) and the atmosphere is terrific and fresh, just what Harwich Port needed! Save room for dessert! more

Long gone are the days of the barefoot fried clam shacks and the early bird specials that have littered Cape Cod! The Port brings style, flavor, attitude, a contemporary menu, and over the top service... transporting you from a sleepy lil' beach town to the hippest restaurant in NYC's meat-packing district... if only for a few hours. The best part = NO VELVET ROPES! The two owner / operator brothers really get it. They remind me of a modern day Tango and Cash! The Port is a must! I can't wait for my next visit! Pros: Menu, food, atmosphere, and service Cons: None! They got it right! more
