Good place to bring the family! 2/28/2006

If you've got little ones in your crowd, Port Discovery is a great place to take them. In addition to all sorts of learning exhibits and activities, there are craft opportunities around and a gigantic play gym in the center. It's a great place to visit, although a bit on the pricey side. A number of my favorite college memories of Baltimore involve Port Discovery--from volunteering there to having a midnight formal there. That play gym is fun to navigate in a fancy gown! All in all, I'd recommend it, especially if you're looking for something to do with younger children. more

Port Discovery 2/9/2006

Port Discovery is a cross between a children's museum and a gigantic McDonald's playplace. I've visited on several occasions with different age groups. I'll agree that it's mostly geared towards children who can read, but the enormous tree house-turned-jungle gym appeals to all ages. Be warned that in addition to this place being expensive, the crowds of unmanned children can be quite trying. Make sure you keep a close watch on your charge; and you'll both have a great time! more

Great visit 9/23/2005

This is a wonderful location. What a beautiful view. I know, you’re not there to look at the Bay. But you can’t miss it. With such wonderful scenery, it’s a wonder we made it in the doors…. But once we did we were impressed. I would highly recommend this to anyone with children 7 – 14. My little ones got a little bored… not much for 5 and under, but still lots to do. Watch for coupons too… it’s kind of pricey! more

The Kid Powered Museum 8/21/2005

Port Discovery is museum specifically designed for kids and is ranked as one of the top five children's museums in the United States. Port Discovery is designed to encourage learning, growth and imagination. It achieves these goals with interactive exhibits. Some of the interactive exhibits include mystery solving, climbing and jumping. It's a fun place for kids and adults, it helps teach that learning can be fun. more

Great for people of all ages 8/19/2005

Port Discovery - The Children's Museum is not just for children. It is a great place for children, adults and even teens. When it first opened I went on a date with my high school girlfriend and had an amazing time. It was fun reliving a peice of childhood. Adults can get something out of Port Discovery - The Children's Museum as well. While it is not cheap, I don't believe its any more expensive than any other museum in Baltimore. I highly reccomend a visit for children and adults alike! more

Kids (and grownups) will have a blast! 8/14/2005

Port Discovery is one of my...err, my son's, favorite places to go in Baltimore. This place is absolutely fascinating and entertaining. Some attractions and exhibits change, but the giant indoor, multi-floor climbing structure always stays the same. You...er, your kids...will stay entertained for hours just in the mazes, but don't let them miss out on the other fun attractions, such as being in the TV studio and learning how a TV show is produced, going to the art room where they will make a fun project, going up to Sesame Street, or exploring any of the hundreds of wonderfully fascinating attractions. more

Fun! Fun! Fun! 8/9/2005

We took our children on a trip to Baltimore and visited the Port Discovery Children's Museum. We all had a blast! They had things for our 1 year old son up to our 7 year old son to do. There was never a dull moment. The kids had fun playing and climbing in the rope maze that stretches up 3 stories. I wasn't too thrilled about having to climb in there after my 2 year old though since I'm afraid of heights, but it was fun once I realized I was safe. We are already planning our next trip to Port Discovery and this time we'll take the grandparents since you can always use extra hands. more

great for children 8/3/2005

Baltimore is a nice place to visit, but beyond the aquarium there isn't really a place for younger children. So try Port Discovery, the kid powered museum. My daughter and nephew love it,nothing like the kids actully ENJOYING something educational. Its not far from the Inner Harbor but a bit of a walk for little legs. They used to have a hot air balloon that you could take a ride in straight up but it malfunctioned once in windy stormy weather, never heard if they reopened it. more

A Children's Museum with limited appeal 8/3/2005

When Port Discovery opened several years ago, I was quite excited--finally something in Baltimore geared towards children that was more culturally appealing than Six Flags. Unfortunately, Port Discovery hasn't lived up to its promise. The times that I have been have been plagued with problems--exhibits are not kept up well, have pieces falling apart or missing, and are even dirty, as if the facility isn't kept properly clean. There is very little there for young children--one small room designed for preschoolers that isn't much more interesting than the children's section of Barnes and Noble. For elementary school children, it's a bit better--the exhibits are geared towards this age range, but again, because of quality control problems, kids don't seem to get much out of it. And it's expensive. I don't mind the $8.50 admission for children so much, but charging $11.00 for adults is crazy--there's nothing there for them! Port Discovery would do better to charge less for adults to encourage them to come and bring their kids. Frankly, if I want something fun and appealing for the family, I'll take them to the Science Center or the National Aquarium. more

Tire them out and educate them at the same time 8/2/2005

This is the best place ever if you want to wear your kids out. They'll have a blast climbing, acting, building, and imagining. It's best to bring along a group of kids so they can play off of each other. If you go alone with your child expect to have to get your hands dirty showing them how to do some of the exhibits (especially younger kids). The good news is they won't get bored and ask to leave, in fact, they'll probably start crying when it's time to go. more

Perfect combination of fun and education 7/27/2005

Port Discovery labels itself as a museum, but kids wouldn't believe it if you told them. It's like a constantly changing amusement park. Central to the museum is a 3 story climbing structure, and each floor has several discrete play areas targeting specific age groups and/or educational focuses. We've been several times and still haven't seen anything. The membership is a real value. more
