Best

Pollywood is not as bad as people thing it is. Pros: good people, cute pets, Cons: the nasty people who threaten this store.

Worst

ok gang I really think we can shut this place down for good if we can get a few hundred people to join- Also I am contacting the media and newspapers- It would be a great story an...

I was a vendor at Gibralter............. 4/10/2008

I had a booth at Gibralter 2 years ago ( I sold jewelry) and I used to stop in time to time at pollywood. Yes, the dogs really are kept in bad conditions, along with other animals. I once asked Shelly ( the owner ) why she wanted to sell animals in a flea market and her words to me were "" because the people that shop at Gibralter Trade Center are low class and dumb enough to buy animals here "" I personally have seen animals suffering with open wounds, fleas, etc....depressing conditons. Just by talking to Shelly I know she truly only cares about money and not animals. She is nothing more than a money hungry puppy mill seller. I sincerely hope the state closes her store down. Its a disgrace. Cons: Dogs caged for years, never let out, sick, neglected, inhumane more

More evidence against Shelly Meyers 4/2/2008

We will not quit until this place is shut down! We are not slandering the store or Shelly, just stating the truth. There are hundreds of complaints on the store! That many people are not going to lie! This place is overlooked by Gibralter and the state of Michigan, they turn a blind eye to what goes on this store. This is going to change, mark my words! Shelly will not be allowed to continue abusing animals much longer. She is going to pay the price for what she has done and continues to do! Cons: Animals caged for 2 years, come from puppy mills, neglected, the list goes on and on more

Stop The Insanity Continued!!!!!! 4/1/2008

I have also read a few who say they were told their pup was purebred but turns out he/she wasn't? Even when buying from a pet store, if the pup is pure bred he/she should come with a registration from AKC and if told a kitten is purebred he/she should too come with registration from CFA, TICA or ACFA and if the owners of the pet store can not provide you with that documentation then you shouldn't spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on a pet your told is purebred, now don't get me wrong, simply having papers for the pup or kitten doesn't always mean 100% that he/she is purebred so you also have to use your common sense again and ask yourself, does this pup or kitten look like the breed they claim he/she is and if the answer is no, well then listen to yourself. I think most of you who have purchased their pets from a petstore would be very surprised to learn that had you simply done your homework you would have been able to purchase the same breed puppy or kitten from a true breeder for much less then what you paid the petstore and by doing so, you can almost guarentee yourself that you are getting the breed you want and not some mix of that breed, as well as registration papers, pedigrees and support from the breeder for as long as you own your pet, again however when buying from a private breeder again do your homework, not all breeders are good breeders and every breed has their share of back yard breeders but for the most part if you do your part on researching the breed you are interested in and learn what the breed standard is and the health issues related to that breed you are going to find it is much harder for a puppy miller, back yard breeder, or pet store owner to take advantage of your unknowingness. Please take this advivce the next time you are looking to add a new family member to your family, these are living creatures and require a lifetime commentment!!!!! Hope I helped here. Cons: selling animals purchased from what is more then likely puppy mills more

THESE ANIMALS ARE TREATED BETTER THAN MOST OF YOU HATERS THAT ARE SO CRAZY FOR POSTING SUCH NONSENSE GET A LIFE 3/31/2008

TO All you people out there bashing this business, you had better have more than yours posts to back you...........and your going to NEED backing.......for all the slander, name calling, and just plain lies, threats, giving out personal information, address, names, threating there children are you insane. I think you just need to get your own life and leave theres alone, or yes you will be paying, not POLLYWOOD. I have dealt with them for all our animals needs, and wants, you could not ask for a more knowledgable owner around Macomb County.....i have scene many inhuman animals in peoples homes compared to these animals that are taken care of 7 days a week any and all vet. needs meet. Its too bad that when people buy a pet they don't think twice about be a pet owner first! And if they don't take them to a vet within the given time limit, shame on them thats there own dumb fault. Pros: variety, honest, and will tell you like it is and if you buy a pet you signed it like it is Cons: Nice people to deal with, they always came through for me and its been over 20 years! more

poor helpless animals 3/31/2008

i have been there on several occassions and the dogs and cats do sleep on wire cages & have no blanket or newspapers & the place is just filthy!! i also seen birds there that had no feathers, 3 dogs to a cage, cats onext to dogs.......the place needs to be shut down and those of you who say its clean and bla,bla bla must like a dirty inviorment. more

Our state needs to get involved more 3/31/2008

Shelly Meyers has been getting away with her crimes for years. Its time the state of michigan does its job! Cons: Sick dying abused animals more

Poor Animals! 3/27/2008

My heart breaks for these animals. Anytime I have went there it was horrible. Sick, neglected animals. Half of them looked like they were dying a slow death. They all looked depressed. The cages are horrible! How can somone force a defensless animal to stand on wire all day and night?? I think we need to put the people that work there in a small little wire cage with no toys, blankets, clean water, etc.... let them defecate and urinate all over each other ( just like the dogs in that place do ) and see how they like it. I am ashamed and embarrassed our state is not doing anything about this. Cons: Sick, Abuse, Neglect more

Devious Liars 3/23/2008

We bought a puppy from Polly Wood pets and they were totally heartless, deceiving, devious, lairs. Supposedly we purchased a pure Pomeranian. Come to find out he?s American Eskimo and Pomeranian. This puppy has gone through countless vet appointments, endless shots, x-rays and tests. He?s been on multiple medications he will have to take for the rest of his life. He needs a heart operation, if he does not receive this operation he will not survive. This operation will cost thousands of dollars. They told us that he may not even live through the operation. Little Bear (puppy) has been to the vet at least twice a week since we bought him in December. I have heard endless horror stories about this place. This is unfair to the animals. They do not deserve to be treated this way. At first glance the place seemed okay, but after so many months and hearing so many horror stories my family was terribly wrong. Many families have to suffer with the thought of knowing their pet may very well not make it to tomorrow. Mans best friend, is what dogs are supposed to be, right? And what is she doing? Creating a puppy mill and laughing in peoples faces. We called her up on the phone and complained telling her she told us our puppy was perfectly in healthy condition and a pure pom. She told us she could trade him in. TRADE HIM IN? Are you serious? Do you even know what it is like to have and love and own a pet of your own? What is he a piece of paper? And if we ever decided to trade him in, which we WOULD NEVER, what would she do with him? Stick him back in a cage and neglect him so he would be abused and maybe die? This is ridiculous. This company needs to be shut down for good. For the sake of all the animals and dogs lives. more

Beautiful Bird 3/22/2008

I bought my McCaw from Shelly about 15 years ago. She is a beautiful Blue and Gold. I bring her to Pollywood on a regular basis to have her nails, beak, and wings trimmed. I am always treated with much respect and kindness. I have never in all the years I have been going there (including having a booth there) ever seen an ill or injured animal. We truly love our Parrot we purchased there, and have reccomended the place to many others over the years. more

Cannot be trusted, worried more about profits and less about animals. 3/21/2008

Found the business to be disgusting and unfair. Older dogs in cages for over a year without considering the health of the dog only worried about the money.. Hard to believe people could support a business that is this inhuman. Very sad and depressing place, makes you want to take all the animals home and give them a healthier, happier life more

money hungry heartless business....will rob you anyway they can 3/21/2008

I bought a dog 6 years ago. Shelly said he was a purebred Chihuahua. She gave me papers stating this also. However, he is 21 lbs and all vets I have been to said I was lied to. He also had a parasite that made him lose 50-80% of his hair which cost me nearly a 1,000 in vet bills to fix. This past fall I went to Pollywood and was horrified by what I saw. She had dogs upon dogs in hamster cages and even bird cages. One dog in particular was missing 80% of his hair, had red sores all over, horsefly bites on his ears, and he stunk from mass amounts of yeast and bacterial infections in his ears. He was also grossly underweight where you could feel his ribs and see his spine sticking out of his back. I had him taken out of the cage and he wouldn't even move. SHE WANTED $400 FOR THIS DOG!!! It took me 3 attempts to finally get this dog..the lowest she would go in price was $250. She told me when I boght the dog that he was 6-7 mos old..the paperwork she gave me said he was a 1yr 1/2. She told me someone walked him everyday...he was scared to walk on grass and the sidewalk!!!! Later I went back to rescue another older dog she showed me that dogs paperwork (which is a vet history) and it WAS THE EXACT SAME PAPERWORK SHE GAVE ME FOR MY DOG!!!! Last weekend I went to get a dog from there that has been in a cage FOR TWO YEARS!!!!!! She wanted $300...she stated he was purebreed and I think she is lying about that as well. I offered $275 and she wouldn't budge....When I tried to bargain with her she KICKED ME OUT!!!!! Many people are signing a petition to shut this place down...please look it up and sign...Shely Myers has not right running this pet store...she lies, overcharges, and gives false paperwork. Someone else I know just bought a dog there three weeks ago. It was sick and got her other two dogs sick...she tried to call Shelly several times and conveniently her voicemail box was full everytime!!!!! Cons: overpriced, unhealthy animals, mentally ill dogs from being locked in cages for years more

Sisters dog had problems 3/18/2008

My sister bought a dog from there 3 years ago and had to have surgery on his foot because it was so badly deformed from being in a cage for so long. His toes were actually splayed apart. Not to mention he had a bad skin and eye infection. These animals deserve to live happy, healthy, and be around people. Not stuck in a cage. This place need to be shut down! Cons: terrible conditions, sick neglected animals more

AMEN TO YOU THAT SPEAK OUT!!!!! 3/17/2008

Its about time people are taking action. I read about this on another site and want to voice my opinion. This place is awful!!!! Cons: Horrible place, horrible people more

I am a regular at Gibralter 3/17/2008

I am glad people are speaking up about this place.I am there at least 2-3 times a month. I do walk around quite a bit and visit her store quite often. Let me tell you, I have seen really bad things. I saw a dead kitten in a cage full of about 15 kittens. Im not sure how it died but it looked really young.I have seen the sick dogs, the rabbits, birds, hamsters, etc..... and yes its bad. Pollywood has been selling and will continue to sell sick dogs as long as people buy them. Its sad because they never take the dogs out of the cage. They wont ever allow anyone in the glass room ( where the dogs are kept) I have personally witnessed a pekineses mix dog bleeding from his mouth. He was stuck in a cage and just bleeding and nothing was done!!! ( I saw this around noon and came back at 4 and he was still like that ) They do not care about animals at all!!! They walk around like they are big shots because they know they are making money off the public who do not know any better. I dont understand why the state allows this to continue. Does the state not care about the welfare of animals? Then again the state doesnt care about the children in foster homes either so I am not suprised.......Disgusting!!! I am ashamed to live in Michigan! Cons: Sick bleeding animals, dead kitten, dirty dark store with no fresh air, wire cages more

WORST PET PLACE EVER 3/16/2008

LETS ALL NOT FORGET THIER IS ANOTHER GIBRALTOR TRADE CENTER WITH ANOTHER POLLYWOOD PET STORE IN IT. THATS NOT THE ONLY ONE. DON'T KNOW IF IT IS OWNED BY THE SAME OWNER BUT I AM SURE SOMEONE WILL FIND OUT. more

Pollywood pets=Puppymill cont. 3/16/2008

She observed that the dog had bloood coagulated on his ears and when she had bought him (they again wanted $400 and she was able to get him for $250 because there was a pet adoption competing with Pollywood) and taken him to the vet was informed that the dog suffered from horsefly bites and had a yeast and bacterial infection in both ears. Also, the vet said that the paperwork made no sense and that the dog could not be part shi-tzu, and that it looked like the dog had had its hair virtually scalped from it's back (probably to remove clumping). A couple months later she went back to, at this point, see if she could RESCUE any more of these animals and get them the proper care and a good home and Shelley proceeded to show her the paperwork of another dog...low and behold! The paperwork for THAT dog was the exact same form that she had for the dog that she had previously bought. All of this can (and most likely will) be backed up by documentation. Now...that was my friends experience. Cons: Unprofessionalsim...not everybody is a disgruntled ex-employee more

poor animals 3/16/2008

i had to go see for myself again, i have not been down there for long time. but nothing has changed. i was reading all reviews. i would not of bought animal from a place like this anyways. It's a trade center! more

Shelley is freaking out now 3/16/2008

I am AM the EX employee Shelley thinks is getting the heat on her. No her house is not flithy, she lives in a million dollar home all off the suffering of these puppy mill puppys and how cheap she can get away with paying her gilrs. Its not the employees fault, trust me on this everyone. I took the job to keep them pupppys clean and safe. Which I did the two yrs I was there, but I could not take Shelly cheating people out of hard earn money, knowing she is selling a sick pup, to Shelley it' all about the money and paying that $1000 a week rent, which Bob the owner of the trade center does not want to lose either. more

A-N-I-M-A-L A-B-U-S-E 3/15/2008

Wow, I had to go there for myself a few weeks ago and what a sad depressing place!!! Animals in cages stacked on one another, rabbits crammed together, and hamsters crowded in cages. They all look depressed and sick and dirty. Every time I would walk by, the dogs were literally crying and barking because they thought there might be a chance they would be saved from this horrible dark place. I felt bad for them. I saw one dog that looked like it had an infection. There was also a little boy there that was squeezing a hamster and dropped it. The workers saw this and did nothing about it. Cons: DEPRESSED SICK CROWDED ANIMALS more

My son caught ringworm for her diseased animals! 3/14/2008

I bought a pekinese from that place several years ago that was matted, and had ringworm. He also had an eye infection. I brought him home after the workers there told me he was healthy. My son caught ringworm from the dog. ( I didnt take him to my vet right away because I was told he was already checked) I was livid!!!! I called and asked to speak with the owner and left several messages. Finally, I went up there and the owner ( shelly meyers) told me I could exchange the dog for a new one!!!!! WHAT!!???? Why would I trade one sick dog for another??? My son had ringworm for 2 weeks!!! Not only did I have t pay to have my son treated, I ended up spending several hundred dollars in vet bills! I would advise against purchasing from this place. This woman definetly has ""issues"" Her mind is not all there. Cons: Ringworm animals more
