The Best Pizza on Earth (seriously) 6/30/2010

When I first went to Pizza Papalis, I looked at the menu and thought people had to be crazy to spend $15 on a small pizza. I actually left and refused to support a place that would charge that much for a pizza (I now know that a small pizza at Pizza Papalis actually feeds 2-3 adults). One day I finally gave in and ordered this pizza, and it is the best pizza I have ever had in my life. I am VERY familiar with pizza. I have eaten at Genos East, Lou Malnatis, Giordanos, Unos, and all the great Chicago pizza places, and Pizza Papalis beats all of them hands down. All the ingredients are fresh, the tomato sauce is amazing, and the crust is flakey and golden brown, and the staff are very friendly. I make it a purpose to visit Pizza Papalis several times when I come back to Michigan to visit, and it's so good that I actually thought about franchising one in Miami Beach (I live in Florida). I strongly urge you to try this place. Be sure to get the deep dish pizza as it's the best you will ever have. I used to be engaged to girl from Chicago who told me I was crazy if I thought there was a better pizza than Lou Malnati's; but after she went to Pizza Papalis, she agreed it was the best. We are both pizza fanatics. Also, the deep dish cookie with ice cream is also great. Have them heat up the cookie and give you some chocolate fudge/sauce to make it even better. Pros: Food quality, pizza sauce, crust, environment, service Cons: You never know if you're gonna get mugged in Detroit...lol more

It was amazing Dinner 2/11/2009

I think this food was amazing. Even though the wait is 45 minutes long for your pizza it was well worth it. The crust is amazing the cheese is so melty and good. The toppings are fresh and are waitress was so nice. Even though the pizza is a little pricey it was all worth it. Pros: The Parking and seating Cons: The price of your happiness more

Majority Wins!! 12/16/2008

As a Detroit native, now living in Atlanta (much love to Nancy's Pizza- u guys tried), I can say that Pizza Papalis remains at the top of my list for deep dish pies. The pies are packed with fillings such that every bite is pure heaven. A good deep dish pie will cost you. Eating the BEST deep dish pie is priceless. Check it out. Would all of us write all of these reviews if it wasn't worth it??? Enjoy!! Pros: Pizza Cons: who cares...it's all about the pizza more

DEEP DEEP DEEP DISH!!!! 11/13/2008

The Deep dish is excellent, each drop is worth every dime. I prefer seafood, but sometimes go for the deep dish with pepperoni, and extra Italian sausages. When ever its my turn to pick all my friends know where we are going. I never get tired of Pizza , that's why I would never get tired of Pizza Papalis. There is no reason to look else where for great pizza and service. A one stop shop! Pros: Great Food and Service! Cons: Parking more

Excellent Pizza 5/14/2008

We ordered a pie with pepperoni and olives, and loved it. The olives were fresh and the sauce was wonderful. The light crust was amazing. more

LOVE IT 11/30/2007

BEST PIZZA but a little expensive. I always get the deep dish with peperoni and extra cheese. Gotta love it Pros: Best pizza Cons: PRICY $$$ more

Love their pizza 11/13/2006

Pizza Papalis is sooo good!! I agree with the post below, it is better than most Chicago deep dish. Although the wait time is long, it is definately worth it! Their chicken strips are very good and so are their salads. Pros: Great pizza, good service Cons: long wait more

The Perfect Popeye! 7/20/2006

I've been endulging in the simply fabulous Chicago-style deep dish pizza at Pizza Papalis since I was a child. I'm 27 now. Their spinach deep dish pie (Popeye) is the most incredible food find in all of Greektown (which is saying alot because Greektown is chock full of incredible resturants). The flavors were meant to be. This pie just melts in your mouth. The crust is buttery, crispy, and flaky all at the same time and the sauce comes from the most ripe and soul satisfying imported tomatoes. They use only the finest ingrediants so I dont mind paying the extra money for the quality. Detroit is pizza king (Little Caesers, Dominos, Hungry Howies, Jets, Buddys, Shields, Nikki's) but Pizza Papalis takes the crown for deep dish! Look out Chicago, this joint is on to you! Pros: the greektown neighborhood, near astoria bakery, great people watching Cons: wait time more

Average is the word 7/11/2006

This place is average. The pizza is piled high and is pretty decent. The price and the wait are not worth the time. The people are rude. I would say this place is average, get a $5 pizza from one of those fast food places. Pros: Average Pizza Cons: Wait, Price, Rude People more

Absolute best pizza veggi, seafood and with meat. Long wait but worth it 6/22/2006

I now live in Anchroage Alaska we have nothing even close to this wonderful Chicago style deep dish pizza. I travel extensively and have tried pizza accross the country. This pizza is the abosolute best I have ever had. A little spendy but well worth the money. Every time I am in the Detroit area I make sure to allow time for Pizza Papalis'. The veggi is my favorite with the seafood running a close second. more

Better off throwing your money away at the casino and going home hungry. 6/21/2006

Wannna feel like you just wasted your evening? Eat here! I love Chicago style pizza, but this is such a poor example that I wont even put it in that category. Pay close attention to the other reviews that mention the gooey crust, and over saucing, Their right on the money. Cons: THE FOOD! more

Simply EXCELLENT 3/16/2006

Ive eaten pizza 5 times a month for the last 20 years. You dont come by pizza this good too often. Great beer prices, phenomenal pies. For those worried about cost, rest assured. Its worth every penny. This is the real deal, almost makes me want to live in Detroit...almost. Pros: Deep dish pies, beer prices, great atmosphere more

Something different in Greektown 8/19/2005

If you want great pizza in Detroit and don't have time to get to Chicago, this is the place. Ambience not for romantics, groups are perfect. Found the pizza to be great but slightly over priced but not unacceptable. Parking is a little difficult but walking in Greektown is not a bad thing. Pros: Food, Upbeat atmosphere Cons: A little pricey more

Good but Pricey 6/6/2005

My fiance and I went to Pizza Papalis for the first time this past weekend. The food was good, but don't bother taking any home. Reheated it sucks. Also, I thought it was a bit expensive for two people. $20 for pizza for two is a lot. They don't serve individual sizes at Dinner....big mistake. I won't go back unless I am with a large group of people! Pros: Tasty Cons: Too Much Sauce, Expensive, Crowded more

True Fan 6/5/2005

I am originally from Detroit and when I visit home I ALWAYS go to Pizza Papalis. Every single pizza I've tried has been excellent. The ambiance in the Greektown location is great and I absolutely love the place. I highly recommend it as the place to visit when you go to Detroit then go down to Belle Isle. Can't wait to go this summer! Pros: great atmosphere, vegetarians can enjoy, excellent taste Cons: parking more

Best Darn Pizza and Italian Cuisine in the World 4/26/2005

I am a traveler by trade. There is not a place that I have been that has pizza that taste this good. The crust is just right... just fluffy enough, just crisp enough, and it doesn't matter what you get on this pizza, it taste great. I even got anchovies on a pizza from this place just to taste them for the first time and see if I could make the pizza taste bad. It was great. I wish that they would open in the area in which I currently live because I miss them. Pros: Well Worth the Money, Taste Great, They Deliver Cons: Location, Location, Not in Georgia more

Better than Chicago? 4/26/2005

Who are you kidding? Anybody that says their pies are better than Lou Malnati's, Giordano's, Gino's East, or any other authentic Chicago deep dish pizzas is just pulling your gullible legs. At best, they are just good for being a deep dish made in Motown (since when is this city the inventor of pizzas?!!). The pie has way too much cheese where you can barely taste the other toppings, the plum tomato sauce tastes like a higher quality ketchup, and overall just too pricey. Pros: In Greektown,, the only safe spot, in Detroit Cons: Way too much cheese, Overhyped & overrated, Very pricey more
