Once you get beyond the delicious scones it is a dull menu with average food and lousy service. The building and location are cute but is way expensive for the coffee shop look it...

You have to wonder 11/15/2011

I agree fully - rude and snooty staff, and a burger as dry as the Sahara. From the attitude of not wanting to make it right and the preparation of the food, it appears there is too much Bend Oregon in Bend Oregon. more

Not so much... 6/7/2011

I took my lady here for dinner and had some of the best service I have ever had. Sadly, everything else was a train wreck. From the over cooked and chewy steamer clams, to the greasy fried artichoke hearts. We were saddened that a place that shows such potential, could be so utterly disappointing. more

my favorite bend restaurant 5/24/2011

I just can't get enough of the pine tavern. I have been dropping in for years and every time I leave with a smile on my face and a content belly.\r \r the location and atmosphere are second to none. the staff is fresh and enjoyable, and the food is fabulous. I usually start out in the lounge with a nice relaxing atmosphere and a very knowlegable bar tender with great suggestions. then I move to the dining room or deck (weather dependent) and try one of their many great choices from the menu.\r \r the staff are more than willing to make something special and allways accomodate my requests. I find the mix of relaxed elegance and casual spirit a perfect fit for my style.\r \r I strongly suggest the 'tavern' as a must stop on anyones trip through bend. just ask a local and hear the good news.\r \r more

Glad we gave it another shot! 5/24/2011

My family has been going to the Pine Tavern for years and years as it is a Bend icon. As long as I can remember it has been the place to go with a great location, great service and fantastic food.\r A few years ago I noticed the food quality had been going down. Same outstanding service but the great taste I grew up with just wasn't there. \r My wife and I heard the owner had passed away and his daughter had taken over so we decided to give it a try to see if anything had indeed changed. Boy, were we glad we did! What an experience! Now that is how I remember the Pine Tavern!\r We were greeted right away and taken to our table overlooking Mirror Pond. A very curteous server came over and introduced himself and gave us the specials for the night. I had the blackened prime rib and my wife had the halibut. Both were cooked perfectly and were so good I found myself wishing I had extra room to keep eating! But with having the scones, ( a must!), and a dinner salad before the main course, I just couldn't finish it all. \r I see some older and dissapointed reviews on here and I'm here to tell you, give it another shot. If your experience is anything like ours was, you'll again be a Pine Tavern fan! more

WHAT HAPPENED TO PINE TAVERN? 3/31/2011

I was disappointed in my meal tonight. I have been comming to the PT for 6 years now. I hadn't been down for happy hour in awhile and my fiance' and I decided we wanted a quiet cocktail and some munchies. All was well until a boisterous blonde woman showed up at the bar with a tall man who appeared be an employee/manager, near where we were sitting. She was loud, lewd, and extremely drunk. She loudly dropped the F-bomb constantly and talked about graphic sexual topics with the other employees and patrons at the corner of the bar. Imagine our surprise when we left and saw the newspaper article on the wall in the entryway about the new direction and owners. The loud annoying woman was the new owner who's picture was on the article, big as life. BADLY DONE PINE TAVERN! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO A GREAT BEND ESTABLISHMENT!? more

A Little Over-rated 3/17/2011

The Pine Tavern was fine, but I don't think I will be back very often as I would prefer to spend my money on something a bit more exceptional. The food is alright (and actually the mud pie is wonderful), but you could get something much better for the same price other places in town. more

Where's the beef? 6/21/2010

Our first time at the Pine Tavern. Greeted poorly at door, could have been more professional & accomadating. Waited in lounge to be seated, ordered beverages which had to be paid for in lounge rather than put on tab with dinner. Once seated service was excellent, very prompt and handled well by all staff. Clam chowder was excellent and hot, a real plus when so many times cool soup is served so often. Spouse had halibut special with scallops and her change from rice to potatoes was accepted and served with no issues. I chose the Oregon beef, wild mushroom pasta, which was served with a very ordinary tomato sauce. I was very surprised to find the leading ingredient, beef, was very well hidden or non existent. Mushrooms were plentiful however. This appears to be a very popular restaurant judging from the amount of customers seated, so will give the benefit of the doubt and try again. Pros: Great ambience, excellent service Cons: Meal was dissapointing more

Great little Tavern in the Pines! 3/4/2010

We went at 5:00 p.m. on a Saturday and were seated immediately in a nice booth by the window. Noticed that by 6:00 p.m. there was quite a line, so go early! We ordered a few mixed drinks from the bar which were made well. Had the Steak Salad plus Mac & Cheese... both were exceptional! They serve warm rolls that taste suspiciously like donuts and are equally as good! Our server was very friendly and quite attentive, given how busy she was by the time we left! The tavern was built in 1936 and there are fun photos of the place from years ago. It has since been tastefully remodeled and is quite cozy and inviting! Pros: Good food and service! Cons: Is very busy at peak times. more

Consistantly good 7/12/2008

I personally rank Pine Tavern as my second favorite restaurant in Bend. I love the oldstyle atmosphere.\r I have always experienced good service and delicious meals. The scones are untraditional but my wife and I could make a meal of them. The chef has prepared a good menu and has wonderful daily specials that are usually to tempting to deny. A great place to take the whole family, which is rare among some of Bend's finer eateries. Weather permitting it is conveniently located for an after dinner stroll in Drake Park or for window shopping downtown. Pros: Good for the whole family. more

Consistantly great food in a beautiful place with excellent service!!! 5/4/2008

Everytime we have eaten at the Pine Tavern, it is a great experience. The food is excellent, service is always tops and the atmosphere is exceptional. I am a vegetarian and am always accomodated with delicious food. The cooks are willing to do a special and I am always delightfully surprised when I taste it. They have made portabella pasta dishes for me, roasted veggies and pente pasta, and various other great concoctions. The deserts are so good and we always have a great dinner experience. We make a habit of getting there early, before the dinner crowd and have consistantly had great service. Would definately recommend the Pine Tavern to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a beautiful place. The patio gardens are a lovely place to eat overlooking the Deschutes River. more

Pine Tavern 3/25/2008

My husband and I had made reservations for 11:45 on a Friday afternoon. When we arrived we were greeted by a middle aged hostess who was very rude in telling us that they were not ready to seat us, and then had to sit in the waiting area and listen as the hostess and an older gentlemen bickered about something or the other for the next five minutes. When we were finally seated by a very professional blonde girl who happened to be our server, she apologized for the wait. The food was pretty good, the service was excellent other than that one instance with the hostess and older man, and the prices were decent compared to the amount of food we were served. The view is spectacular, as well. Pros: Service, Atmosphere. Cons: One rude person can ruin a visit. more

Cute place, great view and friendly staff 3/17/2008

We had dinner at this cute place an really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The food was very good and the scones are to die for! My had the Prawn and tortellini dish and I had the Prime Rib. Both meals were very tasty, though the mashed potaotes could have been warmer. We had Mud Pie for dessert and loved it! The staf was freindly and attentive. Our water glass was ALWAYS full. It is a cute place that has a view of anice patio and garden plus views of a river. It is worth try, you love it. Pros: Great view, authentic place more

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! 3/8/2008

My family and I were told to try the Pine Tavern while visiting Bend. We were treated so rude by both the hostess who stood up front giggling and rolling her eyes and by some woman named Susan who was seemingly intoxicated or on some pills, we think she may of been the manager or the owner. We were crammed into a small booth fit for about 4 or 5 people we were finally moved to a table that actually fit the 8 of us. The manager woman rudely moved us to our new table basically throwing our 'scones' on the table and then stumbled off. We kept being treated like an inconvenience or a bother that we wanted to spend our money there. Our food was terrible. The steaks were tough and the sauce on the ribs was overly tangy, our mashed potatoes were cold. We had had it and just wanted our check. Our first and second waitress were very nice and probably the youngest things in that building. The food was terrible and staff was rude ! \r Pros: nice waitress Cons: rude hostess-rude manager-terrible food! more

Great Scones - Lousy service..Food just OK 2/15/2008

Once you get beyond the delicious scones it is a dull menu with average food and lousy service. The building and location are cute but is way expensive for the coffee shop look it has. I tried for the 3rd time tonight and never write reviews but I have nto been able to see why this would be a top rated restaurant Pros: Scones Cons: Food and Service more

GREAT DOWNTOWN LOCATION FOR BUSINESS/ROMACE 12/3/2007

Very clean & cozy! Tree was awesome. Service was prompt, attentive yet non-obtrusive. Food portions were just right and preparred perfectly. presentation is nice.\r Will definately return!!! \r SUGGEST RESERVATIONS (We waited because we failed to do this) Pros: Scones/Service/Cleanliness Cons: A little bit of a wait to be seated more

Legendary Service and Food? More like Mythical 10/24/2007

I went to the Pine Taver for dinner with my mother because locally, its legendary for a cozy atmosphere, and great food. However, our experience didn't even come close to measuring up with the hype. Upon walking in the front door, we knew we made a mistake, and it only got worse after that. Despite the cute exterior of the building, the interior is very ""Denny's"". The menu offerings are barely palatable (below average) and the salad bar is scary. I ordered a salmon burger, based on the great menu description. But when it arrived I was sadly disappointed. The bun was soaked, and the fries were withered and ice cold. My mothers salad (from the bar) was brown and unappatazing, and her soup had an oily residue on top. Our server was disorganized, unprofessional and I'm not sure she was old enough to drive. Plus, the entire restaurant reeked of that ""dishroom"" smell. Really, the only thing interesting about the Pine Tavern, is its location near the river. In my opinion, If you really want a view of the river while you eat, just go next door to the BBC (and get a better beer too)!! Pros: Deschutes River Cons: Everthing Else more

Above the Rest 10/14/2007

Beautiful setting, great food and good service. My wife and I both had prime rib and found it to be one of the best we have ever had.... as was all the other food on our plates. A special experience. more

Nothing special here 9/17/2007

Went to the Pine Tavern for a birthday celebration with another couple and boy were we disappointed. While the waitstaff was attentive and friendly, the food was definitely sub-par. The prime rib was just okay, and the halibut was overcooked and mushy. Scallops were chewy and no-flavor. The location is great, but save your $$ as it's expensive and there are much better places to try in Bend. Maybe they get by on location, but the only thing we liked was the scones (they are worth a stop). Grab a scone or two, and skip the rest. For a nice meal, go to BlackSmith, Merendas, or Zydeco instead. more
