Great haircuts 10/18/2009

Cynthia really cares about her customers, listens to what they want, and has great ideas if you want to try something new. I travel all the way from San Francisco to have her cut my hair because I trust her completely. I found her through a friend whose haricut I had admired for years. After my last haircut, I had two complete strangers come up to me and compliment me on my haricut. Wow - never had that happen to me before! Wonderful salon full of warm-hearted people. \r more

GREAT, GREAT Hair Style 10/1/2009

Didn't realize I'd be getting hair cuts every 4 weeks, instead of a real 'hair style' cut every 6 weeks. Cynthia is an artist and brings out the best for you! Pros: Cynthia gives you happening hair more

Great haircuts 9/30/2009

I have been going to Phoenix Rising Salon & Day for about 6-7 months and I am really pleased with my hair styling and how I have been treated. The atmosphere is also very inviting and warm. Pros: Great haircuts more

Well worth the drive from Sacramento! 11/21/2007

My recent visit to Phoenix Rising melted my aprehension when it comes to trusting the gal standing behind me with the scissors and hair color! I've been cutting and coloring my own hair for years as a beauty school dropout and there are literally three people on this planet that I've trusted completely with my hair. Recently, I started taking thyroid medication and my hair juuust ain't what it used to be. Thinning and lackluster, either sticks to my head or frizzes out like a crazy cavewoman - this was getting to me to say the least... Sitting in Alicia's chair was literally like trusting someone I've known for 20 years. She listens patiently, tactfully explains why and how she'll successfully reach your goal and makes suggestions based on experience. At first I only wanted a cut but after she calmed my nerves about how color can work I agreed to evening out my natural color and getting a partial highlight. The last thing I wanted was to look like I was trying to be 16 again or look like a Calico cat. The end result was nothing short of amazing. Her expertise wtih color matching and blending is second to none. The entire staff is warm, atmosphere inviting and the salon is easily found. I've since recommended Alicia to a few friends and will continue to do so. more

Best colorist ever!! 3/28/2007

I desperately needed a cut and color and a friend recommended Alicia at Phoenix Rising Salon. I called on a Thursday and she stayed late to fit me into her schedule (on a Saturday, no less!!!). I've never had so many compliments on a haircut before. She did such a beautiful job on my color that I didn't get any comments about ""dyeing"" my hair. The whole staff is wonderful but Alicia is the best!!! I already made my next appointment. Pros: Service, Enthusiasm, Proffesionalism more

There is a relaxed warm inverioment with you are immediately immersed in and with the hectic energy left behind. When traveling being away from home it is nice to treated with such care I am so happy with the cut and professional treatment I would highley recomend this salon, Best to You all Pros: Very Friendly,Wonderful Atmosphere,Great Coffe, Nice merchandising more

Love my new look!!! 10/29/2006

Wow.... wow..... wow...... I feel like a brand new woman. I was referred to this salon from a friend of mine.... Of course, I was used to my own stylist, but thought I would respect my friends input and give it a try.... Kind of like trusting somebody with your newborn!!!\r \r I was so intrigued with the professionalism and knowledge from my first phone call to set my appointment, that I was so looking forward to my visit. The day had come, and mind you, I was a bit nervous as I was straying from my ""comfort zone"" unaware of what was to come..\r \r I was greeted upon my appt., when I entered the salon my first instinct was ""everybody"" including client and staff had a smile on their face, which eased my mind. From that point on, I was pampered and treated like an individual, not so much as a customer. I was lucky enough to get my appointment with Cynthia, the owner, and nothing but the best happened from then on. I am so delighted with my color and style, as it appeared the rest of the patrons were also extremely satisfied. \r \r I have already scheduled my next appointment at Phoenix Rising, and just want to share with others how wonderful this salon is. Pros: the entire salon and staff Cons: none, I am overjoyed more

Chic and Friendly Salon with awesome service 10/21/2006

This salon is truly a great find located on Moraga Way in Oakland. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and from the moment you walk in the staff makes you feel welcome and boy do you get pampered. I have been to many stylists who pretend to listen to what you want but the result is a surprise. Not the case with Alicia, she takes the time to understand your needs and share recommendations of her own without being pushy. Color is truly her speciality as well as giving me the best haircut and style I have had in years. The owner Cynthia sure knows how to hire talent. I booked my next appointment on the spot. Bravo! Pros: Ambience more

The most awesome salon I have been to in years..... 10/16/2006

I was walking down Moraga Ave., about a week ago, and was minding my own business, as I walked by this salon, I was entrigued with the frontage which drew me inside. When I walked in, I was amazed, at first with the atmosphere, and secondly with what I was viewing with the staff..... I have never seen so many happy clients, and so many awesome colors and cuts.... I then stepped to the reception desk and booked myself an appointment...... I could not be happier with the service and the profession that I received this afternoon with my appointment. I would HIGHLY recommend this salon, and I will be returning for my next appointment definitely..... Pros: all was great Cons: n/a more

A salon that listens to what their customers want. 9/27/2006

My husband has hard hair to cut. He has a full head of hair and if it isn't cut right, he ends up looking like a Q-tip during the grow-out phase. My husband is also pretty conservative and many stylists try and push a trendy cut on him, which isn't what he wants.\r \r My husband went in, explained to Camille what he was looking for and ended up with a stylish cut that didn't push him past his comfort zone. Pros: A friendly staff who listens Cons: Price, but hey, it's a high end salon. more

Greatest salon I have ventured into in a long time. 9/18/2006

I ran across this salon on a stroll one afternoon on my lunch hour. The staff was very professional and eager to please me. Cynthia, the owner, was extremely outgoing and accomodated me in scheduling my appointment at my convenience. The remainder of the staff members were shooting out some of the most awesome colors and cuts that I have seen. Props to this salon, they will be seeing me for many more years. more

Best salon in East Bay 9/3/2006

I've never been to a high-end salon where the customer service has been so friendly. Great receptionist! (and he's cute too!). Phoenix Rising is a relaxed, spirited environment and there was great style after great style leaving each chair. Cynthia the owner, gave me exactly what I wanted, (new color) and my freind received one of the best massages ever from Kim. Michelle gives a fantastic facial (her room is very relaxing and calming) WHAT A GREAT TEAM!!! more

Real people who ""get"" hair 9/1/2006

Friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Hairstlists who understand how to keep hair healthy while making you look gorgeous. Shampooing is actually a lovely head massage. Pros: Ambience, Friendly Staff, Service more

Fantastic hair and great people 8/25/2006

All I know is that I went in hating my hair (really hating) and came out loving it. Cynthia totally understood my rantings about my hair and worked her magic. I'm growing it out and wanted new color and she seemed to read my mind. And I felt really comfortable there immediately - no attitude or snobbery, just really nice and talented people. Pros: Very talented, very nice, no attitude more

Not the best place for perms... 3/29/2006

Despite friendly service, I had a disappointing experience at Phoenix Rising. I requested a ""body wave,"" and I left with a head full of tight spiral curls. It felt like a ""one-size-fits-all"" approach to perming -- the stylist used (very small) spiral rods, despite the fact that I'd wanted a ""wavy"" look. I told her I was surprised by how curly it was, and she said that the curls would loosen and my long hair should weigh them down. It's been over a month and the curls still haven't dropped. I paid well over $100, and I'm still frustrated by the results. I didn't call to complain because I don't ever plan to go back. For now, I'm just waiting for my hair to grow out. Cute place, but I was disappointed. Pros: friendly staff, nice atmosphere Cons: unhappy with results, pricey, given outcome more

Great Salon! 3/13/2006

I found this salon from a redken website having relocated from a redken salon out of state. I had my hair done by Alicia. Not only does she happen to work for Redken as an instructor, she colored and cut my hair just how I wanted it! I get tons of compliments! She is efficient and coming from back east....a value! I priced other salons in the area and they come in about average to just under ""average"" on some services. The staff members were all so very nice and helpful! I would highly recommend this salon and Alicia! Pros: friendly, value, street parking more

GET IN HERE!! 5/26/2005

6.9??? I don't think so. I have been going to see Alicia since I moved to CA in '92. This is BY FAR the most welcoming, friendly and professional salon we've been to. Treats for our daughter and for our dog - nice touch. The best thing is that from the time we walk in the door, until we leave, we are treated like family. more
