To walk in the door, it costs you $100. It was supposed to include an exam. We took our dog in because he suddenly stopped barking and was acting funny and wouldn't eat or drink. It was a Friday night and I was really worried about him, so we took him in. The exam consisted of taking his temperature (by an aide) and the ""doctor"" that came in did a lot of guessing as to what it could be and when my dog growled a little bit because she was messing around his mouth, she stood back and refused to touch or examine him further. She concluded that he *probably* had something in his throat and that she would get an estimate drawn up and let us know how much it would cost. Well... after about a half an hour, the front desk lady came with her clipboard with 2 quotes. The first quote was to use an anesthetic to make him sleepy so they could examine his throat... the funny thing was, it included 2 shots of amoxicillin at $44 a piece? What? Why? When we asked, we were told that they were just treating the *symptoms* at this point. The actual cost of the sleepy medication was $28. So, why wasn't that just done and then added on as part of the exam that I just paid $100 for? The bottom line was $238 for just putting him to sleep... the next quote that would have included surgery if needed was $636!!! The IV fluids to be administered was going to cost $114, while the surgery itself was only $100... I thought that to be a bit odd... anyway.. .you should really watch what you are paying for here and go through each of the itemized expenses and think about whether it makes sense. We ended up just paying the $100 exam fee (if you could call what we got an exam) and leaving. I ended up giving them a $107 money order, to which they replied they couldn't give me change back... so if you have to deal with this place... good luck with these boobs...\r \r more

July 13th 2013, I was visiting the neighbor electrician about wiring my lights on the garage, while I was across the street someone open my secured gate and let my ""new"" Dachshund puppy, ""Banjo"" and along came my other Dachshund ""Dolce' out into the street which had four years old and had all the obedience training. (AKCG 7 certificates and a metal.) Dolce has never went out of the yard. Soon--- Banjo was howling and crying over Dolce' hit by at passing gold blazer, lady pulled over up the street and took off. In a state of shock and my Dolce' laying on the street--- I picked her up and ran to my car and placed her on a bed that is on the seat. I ended up driving to Spokane---Emergency Pet Clinic close's to my home with no shoes, They would not let me see Dolce' after demanding $850.00 when they had not even done anything for $850.00. I demanded to see my Dolce' to make sure she was getting a IV and pain med's so she would not go into shock! The young male Veterinarian finally took me back after calling Spokane Police Dept. to see Dolce', I told them money is no issue and that I would have to go home and get my credit card because I do not carry with me after getting my purse stolen yrs ago and to protect my accounts from theft. I had no shoes on and in a state of shock, I called the police first off because they would not let me see my dog until payment. I walked home to get my credit card and called another one of Dolce's Veterinarian--- they said get Dole' ""out of there"" and take her to a Pet Emergency in Idaho. When I returned with my credit card they ""had locked"" the door's and would not take my payment or let me in to get my dog.. Calling the police again. Another couple show up with their dog and ran door bell they let them in and I followed behind them with my credit card to pay $410.00 and take my dog. The lady at the desk was so unprofessional and a little busy body sticking her noise into my business. I had called Spokane Police talked with Justin and Jeniffer multiple times. They advised my me rights in getting my dog out of there. I told Justin that in a state of shock--- I forgot my flip flops--shoes. I new you can get a ticket driving without shoes. This is why I walked home to call another Vet and get my credit card. This place should be shut down. They have to much over head to pay that don't do their job correctly and I'm afraid the business is in debt more than we know!!! This Spokane, Emergency Pet Clinic,21 E. Mission Ave, are taking advantage of the public's hardships with pet owner's making fast buck's for not giving medical care seriously or will not be provided unless you pay first for your pet... Dolce' I took to Idaho vet owned by County Sheriff and his wife they took great care of Dolce' over night with IV's running, pain med's and even took X-Ray's all for $518.25. They even transferred me to a Vet to do the surgery---"" Washington State University"" WSU need's to have a satellite in Spokane and shut places like this down that are not equip to do anything for your pet medically. Speaking from someone who has a medical licence and cares for people. Docle' has a shattered pelvis and fracture femur. Dolce had the best care and after surgery is walking again within the two week's of the accident. ($410.00, did nothing) ($518.25 did everything and placed surgery WSU-- $3,200.00 totaling all care.) more

They are quick and convenient and you will pay out the nose for that. Our dog was not feeling good and diagnosed with pneumonia and told he would recover. All in all he was examined, given 4 xrays and meds for 1 week (he would need an additional 5 weeks after that). Bill came to $850-- yikes, almost crapped in my pants. To make things worse it didn't make a bit of difference. 11 hours later our beloved dog was dead. Then they called and told us he had bronchitis. I would only go here if it was the last resort and even at that you need to use caution. more

Horrible experience 11/26/2012

I know by writting this is doesnt make a world of difference but if I can save the life of other animals I figured I would write about my experience. Thanksgiving morning I woke up to my 2 yr old chiwinnie bleeding excessively from his bottom. Without hesitation I rushed him straight up this place. I worked in a vet office many years ago and looking at my little man that morning I knew I most likely was going to lose him. I was a complete mess! Like other reviews mine was similar. I got bombarded with quotes that were way out of my price range. I asked the vet if I should consider putting my little one to sleep. The vet insisted that I don't go that route, that I take him home and keep him warm and if he wasn't any better by morning to find a place to take him for further care. My dog was obviously dying and any person on this planet without the license to say so could tell me he wasn't gonna make it. So I took his words as a sign of hope. I paid 347.00 for fluids to help with dehydrat more

WEEKEND VICTIM 2/27/2012

I'd like to take this moment to thank The Spokane Pet Emergency Clinic on Mission for improperly murdering my pet and supremely crushing my family's soul. In the future, when you pronounce the animal dead and leave the room, please make sure it's really dead. The 'reawaking' was probably the most traumatic and grotesque thing that I have ever witnessed in my life! Let alone the 'shushing' we received for crying and expressing our grief or our screams of terror when the dog wasn't dead. Perhaps a soundproof room for euthanasia should be in your extreme profits so people don't have to monitor their grief and others don't have to listen to your incompetence? Just a thought. As if it wasn't bad enough that you forced me to put a HUGE price tag on my best friend's life - your true lack of compassion and respect rocked my world when my boys and I were trying to say goodbye to our girl and you were obsessed with shoving receipts and clipboards in my face to make sure YOU got paid before we more

DON'T 1/3/2012

I took my dog to the clinic on 1/1/11. My dog's stomach was bloated and she was bleeding; An xray was taken and I was told my dog had a twisted stomach and sugery needed to be performed asap and 99.9% my dog would not survive and if she did the condition would reoccur. He told me an IV was put in my dog(without my permission) for surgery or to put her down. While I was crying and trying to make a decision, I over heard one of the SENSITIVE doggie staff say,""KIA'S GONNA DIE, ""KIA'S GONNA DIE.... before I could reach my cell phone to record this crap it stop. I confronted the staff at the front desk and was told, ""they weren't talking about your dog but about someone else. DUH I was the only person with a dog in the clinic at the time. I took my dog home because the incredibly smart doggie doc told me my dog is gonna die. Well my dog is fine the bloating went away on it's own and my vet said it was a bladder infection. Take from my experience what you will - I will never take my dog to pet emergency again. more

Still frustrated over my experience. DONT GO HERE! 11/13/2011

They lost my trust within the first 10 minutes after I took my 2 year old cat in to get some pain meds after she had been stung by a bee on a Saturday night. I didn't want her to be in pain and I wanted the swelling in her leg to go down so that she would be comfortable so I decided to suck up the $180 to get her into this place. I immediately felt like I regretted going there. The vet came in and tried to give me other "possible" reasons as to why my cat's paw was swelled up (as if I didn't know how it happened even though I clearly told him) and even went as far as trying to convince me to allow him to do some kind of blood work. Then, when I didn't go for that he tried to get me to pay for ANTIBIOTICS for a flipping bee sting.. I wanted an anti-inflammatory and some pain meds so, finally, that is what my cat got and within the next hour she was back to normal and pain-free. What a bunch of morons; do they think I am such a fool? I wish there was a more trustworthy 24-hour vet in Spo more

Thank you Spokane Pet Emergency Clinic 3/14/2011

Yesterday I had to put my 17 years old kitty ""Sophie"" to sleep at the clinic on a rainy Sunday afternnon. It was very emotional for me as ""Sophie"" was my first pet. The nurse at the clinic was so kind to ""Sophie"" at her last hours that I can't express how much I appreciated it. She not only brought out a tower but also a small heating device to keep ""Sophie"" warm and comfortable the entire time. The nurse did not have to do that for a cat that is about to get put to sleep. This nurse petted ""Sophie"" and sweet talked to her as if ""Sophie"" was her own pet cat. In fact the nurse even weeped herself. ""Sophie"" died in our arms peacefully and with no pain surrounded by humans that loved her. I am sorry that I did not thank the nurse at the time for all she did and in fact I did not even know her name because I was too busy dealing with my sadness at the time. I want to now express a big thank you!! more

Stupid people 3/8/2011

I would like to say for the people on here that want to run there mouths and not having an idea of what there saying plz leave!! i have lost my job and my lab ate something he should not have and now i cant pay this big bill the vets want so know my baby has to suffer due to it. this is not my fault!!!! i was turned down for pet insurance so i tried that already!! so dont get on here shame shame on these people that cant afford the best pet care!! you are so stupid!!!!! i love my pets more then life itself and to hear stupid people like you get on here just ticks me off to the point of no return!!! only thing else im going to say is it is americas fault that a human will turn a pet away due to the owner cant pay thousands of dollars upfront!!! i dont care how you look at it. if a pet dies due to a vet turning them away i say charge them with murder because that is what it is!!! and if you dont like what im saying then most likely it is directed at you! more

Wonderfully kind and caring. 2/19/2011

Today I had to take my kitty in after a long battle with kidney problems. She was my first pet once I moved out on my own. 16 wonderful years together. The staff at the clinic were very kind and caring. They helped me make arrangements at the local pet cemetery as well. This clinic is such a great asset to our community in our time of need. The prices are well within reason. For those of you who think they are too much...maybe you shouldn't have a pet if you can't afford the care for them! more

SHOCKED! 12/19/2010

I AM SHOCKED after reading these complaints about Pet Emergencies caring after hours staff and vets. I can't believe no one has addressed the fact that these pet owners don't seem to want to pay for the quality health care of their animals! What are you people doing owning pets if you can't afford to give them the quality care they deserve? Are you joking--would you turn down emergency care for your child because it cost too much!!?? Get some pet insurance you crazy people! Pet Emergency is fabulous. They treat animals with quality after hour care--medicine isn't free!\r I have had to take my animals there on several occasions and have gladly paid whatever the cost to take care of my animals--my responsibility. I would not even think of stiffing a vet for medical services. I have to wonder if the people who write these negative comments are angry because they can't afford pet care and really just expect that they are going to get a free hand out wherever they go? If you have an more

Vet malpractice 11/16/2010

if your a smart caring loving pet owner the best advice I can give is find a vet who you are able to contact after hours this will save you money, heart ache. But most of all you will never have to take your pet to this so called pet clinic. And be warned if you don't have the money at your time of need they will not work with you at all. They are what we now call the dog killers. They are not compassionate, the one office gal just hounds you about money during your time of grief and need they other just seems so clueless. oh yeah and dont get rude with them, you do and like a previous owner writes they are doomed. And isnt it weird that people x rays and blood work are cheaper than an animals you would think they would be about the same same type of equipment. what spokane needs is a change we need a better emergency clinic with vets and assistants who care. we don't need another money grubbing vet who gives a crap less about your animal or one who mistreats your animal. This so called more

Jerk Of the Month 11/8/2010

Compassionate No! We took our dog in and they were absolutely horrible people and no she didnt make it either. This so called compassionate vet triages animals and people, If you dont have the amount of money needed for full treatment your pet dies, well who does at 2 am. And if its not saveable with in a certain amount of time guess what your pet is doomed. And if through your anxiety over your pet you get rude your pet will certainly die. These so called vets and vet techs are the rudest people they have no compassion and feeling towards you or your pets they are nothing but money grubbing jerks. The night we went in almost all animals but 2 were put down because their recovery room was full. When did being an animal lover become such a money making scheme more

Caring and competent 7/16/2010

These people are caring, competent and efficient veterinarians and vet techs who, because of their empathy for pets and people in distress, have chosen to do a thankless job. Each of them could earn much more, enjoy bankers hours and see a lot fewer depressing cases if they chose to practice in a standard office. Some of the complaints I've read on this page are very frustrating. I do understand that $80 is a lot of money for some people, but it is on par with a standard office visit these days, and thus a tremendous bargain for after hours veterinary care. Last night they helped me say goodbye to my little dog friend of 18 years. I would have been at my wits end if not for this service, and my little friend surely would have suffered for hours in pain and misery. Thank God for these people. more
