My niece had a radiator burst on a Saturday. She needed the car the next day, so I called around. Pep boys was open and had the part. They quoted me $570 for the radiator which costs $153. High, but OK if it was done today I thought. Towed there at 12. At 8 p.m. the cost came to $798 with deciding what it was and hazardous waste elimination - the anti freeze that was empty when it came in. This after watching them goofing around in the bay on the closed circuit TV. Then they told us the engine was "air-locked' which happens in hydraulic pumps, but I never heard of it in a car. Somehow, letting it cool overnight will fix it, Right. The next day (Sunday) they said the water-pump now went and it would be another $350. My niece was in tears, what could I do, they had me over a barrel. I feel completely ripped off and would have felt better if they used a gun. Had 2 worn out tires originally puchased at PepBoys. They had only 20K on them but had a 70K warranty. Service rep checked worn tires and mileage and stated he would take $85.00 off the price of a replacement which retailed for $116. Problem was they were out of stock and I would have to come back later. Rep gave me a written estimate. Returned one week later . They still did not have the correct tire but said they would give me a different tire for $117 minus the adjustment. They could not find my quote from a week earlier in their computer.(fishy) My original rep was not there for this second visit. The manager, Jack Ajoyan, chimed in that if I needed 2 more tires (for a total of 4) I could get the 4th tire free. I approved this and the tires were replaced along with an alignment. 2 hours later the manager had to make the adjustment and total the order. He offered a rebate to get the 4th tire free and a 10% reduction on the bill, but did not take the original adjustment ($85 off 2) more

They took advantage of a petite woman during a rainstorm and quoted me at 60% more for a part than what another shop quoted me for. I am reporting them to the better business bureau. I went to Pep Boys 2 months ago to have a nail removed from my tire. They said they removed the nail and plugged the hole. Well, I kept losing air in my tire. Finally, my REAL Mechanic looked at the tire. Pep Boys never plugged the hole. The charged me $25.00 and didn't do the job!!!!! more

Extremely high prices and they try to hit you with services that are not really needed! Just to install an oxygen sensor the bill was well over $400.00 They also charged me $90.00 for Diagnostics when I told them what the problem was. more

I had my vehicle towed to Pepboys. They diagnosed the problem as a bad fuel pump. They changed the pump at a cost of $575.00. The car still wouldn't start and had to be towed to the dealer. The dealer found the problem to be the electronic control module. Pepboys still maintained that the fuel pump was still no good and I'm left paying for what I feel was an unncessary repair. If their diagnosis was correct from the beginning this could have been avoided. I would recommend going to a dealer for anything other than an oil change or new tires, the mechanics are obviously more qualified. Paul M. more

They also wanted to charge to top off the fluids. Which I also refused to pay the service charge. I now only go to them to buy items I can install myself. They do a nice job fixing your car and they have some free services. Prices are pretty good. They don't really look to save you money but thats okay if you know what they are talking about. They are somewhat helpful. Prices in the store are pretty good. Staff is nice. Some don't know what they are doing though. more

This place is great. Knowledgable staff with everything. You can find everything for your auto here, and if not, they order it for you. Hard to find items are also here. Stereo supplies, tires, rims, etc. Reasonably priced also. more
