This place charges too much! 9/30/2011

This place charges too much! We had brought our two Labs here since they where Puppies. The Doctors have all done well in regards to care and knowledge so when our Dog (2 1/2 yrs) had gotten snagged on a fence and had a laceration across her chest, we brought her to Penn Vet Care. $306.00 and 7 staples later, she was fixed up and out the door. Here is what the charges covered: Evaluation: $45 DHLPP Booster: $18 3Yr Rabies Booster: $18 Bordetella Vac: $18 Local Anesthesia: $41 Laceration Repair: $105 Carprofen (pain med)$8.54 Cephalexin(antibiotic)$28.20 Skin Stapler : $24.06 more

Woudln't go anywhere else! 2/7/2011

Excellent - top notch care with reasonably, fair and I dare say LOWER prices than other vet practices in town. We are extremely pleased with Dr. Leppanen and Dr. Dieter's care of our 3 pets. I have been to 3 other practices in the area and was overcharged at all of them. More important than that is the personalized care all of the staff give to our animals. They remember them and know them by name. With this practice you are not paying for a fancy building and physical space but are paying for what really matters - genuine concern and excellent medical care for our beloved pets. more

Overcharged 2/2/2011

Incredible how Penn Vet up-sells on the bill. \r \r I wish I had read up on this journal earlier on how some vets up-sell their clients:\r \r http://pacvet.livejournal.com/2007/06/21/\r \r "[You are missing opportunities if] lab work is not more than 10% of gross income. It should be more than 30%. You should require all pets to have a preanesthetic [lab] exam. The lab work brings in money and any diseases that are unmasked also bring in money." more

I'm in tears, I'll miss Dr K and Mary 1/31/2011

I am just about in tears. I have been going to Penn Vet for several years and they always treat me and my buddies with care, concern and professionalism. Now that I am no longer in the workforce I have to count my dollars more carefully...and when I went in for a procedure on my little one, I was confronted with added on charges for what should have been part and parcel of the procedure. I was given an estimate yes, but then here comes additional charges for an IV. Shouldn't an IV be part of surgery? Maybe I don't understand something? I may go back and ask, but from what I read here, I am thinking I can get a better price elsewhere. It will be hard to give up the friendly folks there, but I can't afford to pay this much. I do remember them giving me a 10% discount when treating my foster dogs (rescues) in the past. more

dollars added up! 11/20/2010

they ran lots of what I thought were unnecessary tests and then when I was charged I couldn't believe how much the dollars added up! more

Checked it out myself. Shop around. There are lots of vets in the area. Judging by the all the reviews. more

Great Clinic 7/26/2010

Dr. Lepannen and his staff are wonderful. Beware the bogus ratings by hopefulh (two identical bad reviews to bring down the ratings). This person probably works for Banfield and is trying to give Dr. Joe a bad rep to help their own big box clinic. Why take your pet a second hand vet doc in a box, when you can go to the best for less. Pennsylvania Vet Care has honest, highly skilled and fairly priced service. Why trust your family pet to anything less? more

Sandy K. 6/8/2010

These people are wonderful. Dr. Joe came in on his time off to do a C-Section on our Maltese, Maddie. The whole staff is great. From Mary, the receptionist, to both Dr. Joe and Dr. Kami. We are treated like friends everytime we come in. My dogs are my children, and I wouldn't complain about paying what is necessary for my kids. I wouldn't find a cheaper doctor for myself, so why would I take second rate care for my canine children? more

Competetive prices; Friendly, knowledgeable staff 6/8/2010

Those who think they're too expensive have not done much work with vets lately! In the Lansing area Penn Vet is not only incredibly reasonable with the prices, they have a great and very knowledgeable staff. I trust my pack with them and was there just today more

Too expensive 4/22/2010

The care seemed very good and the staff seemed quite knowledgeable. The building is a bit slum like for the prices they charge. If they cut their office visit fee to $30 I think I would go back. I do like their reports that they mail out to you. more

Expensive 2/9/2010

The staff were very nice. \r \r However, I found the prices and the charges to be high.\r \r I realize that like anything else the veterinary system is a business. more

Pennsylvania Veterinary Care is great! 11/9/2009

Pennsylvania Veterinary Care is great! We have a special needs dog. They are great with her, writing scripts so we can fill them less expensively. Both Dr. Joe and Dr. Tammy are top notch. They are kind to our pets, very professional and extremely knowledgeable. We are very happy with Penn. Vet Care. more

Best Vet clinic you will find! A1 care & knowledge 4/7/2009

I have had Pennsylvania vet clinic as my vet for many, many years.I raise showdogs and worked in the animal industry which enabled me to refer many new clients to Dr Joe over the years. He and his staff are like family and they know all my dogs. Dr Joe is the only vet ever to operate on ""Medusa"" my 12yr old Shepherd who is my life! She came through a C-section and a toe amputation just fine! They have said goodby to many dogs with me as well, always caring an sensitive to my loss.I am a client forever and you should stop by and meet them.Tell um Medusasmom sent you! Pros: friendly, professional, knowledgable, more

prices 3/23/2009

The people were nice. But watch out for high prices on pet medications/prescriptions - especially in today's economy. I'm switching to Banfield. Banfield waives the cost of the comprehensive exam if you come on Tues and Thursday between 2-4 pm. You still have to pay for shots, etc. But you save 30-40 dollars not having to pay the exam fee. Banfield also allow you to order your prescriptions over the internet from another vendor. (Internet vendors are 20-40 percent cheaper) I would recommend getting a vet that will match any offer and allow you to get prescriptions from another vendor. Before signing on with a vet - I would recommend asking them about this - you may be in for a surprise later otherwise. Pros: friendly Cons: costly more
