I thought it was really good. Try the flaming cheese, it's a favorite more

Excellent 10/5/2011

I was surprised to see bad reviews on here. This is my favorite restaurant in Greektown. I have been eating here since I was a little kid (I'm 25). The atmosphere is lively and loud, just like a Greek restaurant should be, in my opinion. The decoration is ornate and creates a setting like you are eating in an authentic Greek restaurant on the Mediterranean. The Saganaki is great (Opa!) and pretty much everything on the menu is stellar. My personal favorite is the Chicken Lemonato (I know it's not VERY Greek). It is breaded chicken in a semi-thick garlic, lemon, butter and wine sauce. There are many great restaurants in Greektown, but Pegasus is my favorite, that's why I keep going back! more

The Best Pizza on Earth (seriously) 6/30/2010

When I first went to Pizza Papalis, I looked at the menu and thought people had to be crazy to spend $15 on a small pizza. I actually left and refused to support a place that would charge that much for a pizza (I now know that a small pizza at Pizza Papalis actually feeds 2-3 adults). One day I finally gave in and ordered this pizza, and it is the best pizza I have ever had in my life. I am VERY familiar with pizza. I have eaten at Genos East, Lou Malnatis, Giordanos, Unos, and all the great Chicago pizza places, and Pizza Papalis beats all of them hands down. All the ingredients are fresh, the tomato sauce is amazing, and the crust is flakey and golden brown, and the staff are very friendly. I make it a purpose to visit Pizza Papalis several times when I come back to Michigan to visit, and it's so good that I actually thought about franchising one in Miami Beach (I live in Florida). I strongly urge you to try this place. Be sure to get the deep dish pizza as it's the best you will ever have. I used to be engaged to girl from Chicago who told me I was crazy if I thought there was a better pizza than Lou Malnati's; but after she went to Pizza Papalis, she agreed it was the best. We are both pizza fanatics. Also, the deep dish cookie with ice cream is also great. Have them heat up the cookie and give you some chocolate fudge/sauce to make it even better. Pros: Food quality, pizza sauce, crust, environment, service Cons: You never know if you're gonna get mugged in Detroit...lol more

Turn on your faster than a Greek waiter. more

It was amazing Dinner 2/11/2009

I think this food was amazing. Even though the wait is 45 minutes long for your pizza it was well worth it. The crust is amazing the cheese is so melty and good. The toppings are fresh and are waitress was so nice. Even though the pizza is a little pricey it was all worth it. Pros: The Parking and seating Cons: The price of your happiness more

very bad 12/29/2008

I am Greek so I know Greek food and any god food for that matter. I have been to other Greek restaurants which have been equally disappointing. \r \r Their food does not taste like Greek food. Whoever says it is authentic they do not know Greek food. My girlfriend and I both have had stomach problems from eating there even the next day.\r \r It is very pricey and bad quality. \r \r The waiters are not polite. The toilets stink very badly. They toilets and smoking toilets!!! so watch out for your kids going in there.\r \r Do not go there. Pros: I cannot tell Cons: bad food and service more

Majority Wins!! 12/16/2008

As a Detroit native, now living in Atlanta (much love to Nancy's Pizza- u guys tried), I can say that Pizza Papalis remains at the top of my list for deep dish pies. The pies are packed with fillings such that every bite is pure heaven. A good deep dish pie will cost you. Eating the BEST deep dish pie is priceless. Check it out. Would all of us write all of these reviews if it wasn't worth it??? Enjoy!! Pros: Pizza Cons: who cares...it's all about the pizza more

DEEP DEEP DEEP DISH!!!! 11/13/2008

The Deep dish is excellent, each drop is worth every dime. I prefer seafood, but sometimes go for the deep dish with pepperoni, and extra Italian sausages. When ever its my turn to pick all my friends know where we are going. I never get tired of Pizza , that's why I would never get tired of Pizza Papalis. There is no reason to look else where for great pizza and service. A one stop shop! Pros: Great Food and Service! Cons: Parking more

Excellent Pizza 5/14/2008

We ordered a pie with pepperoni and olives, and loved it. The olives were fresh and the sauce was wonderful. The light crust was amazing. more

bad advice 2/10/2008

i recently went here with some of my friends, now mind you, i'm 17 and they're 19. my friend asked our waiter what he recommended from the menu, he, of course, recommended one of the most expensive things on the menu, the shrimp. later when we ordered, my other friend ordered the shrimp while everyone else went with something more affordable, considering the shrimp was $22. when we got our food, we thought it was a joke, he got six medium sized shrimp, and some nasty looking green peas. later, my friend was able to laugh at this, but at the time he was VERY upset, as were we. i personally would recommend the parthonon, which is just across the street, or pizza popolis. Pros: feel of a high class restaurant Cons: high price with small portions more

LOVE IT 11/30/2007

BEST PIZZA but a little expensive. I always get the deep dish with peperoni and extra cheese. Gotta love it Pros: Best pizza Cons: PRICY $$$ more

Good food, bad service 1/4/2007

The food here is authentic and very good. However, service is less than stellar. We asked our server to wrap up leftovers and instead he threw them away...then didn't offer to correct his mistake. more

Love their pizza 11/13/2006

Pizza Papalis is sooo good!! I agree with the post below, it is better than most Chicago deep dish. Although the wait time is long, it is definately worth it! Their chicken strips are very good and so are their salads. Pros: Great pizza, good service Cons: long wait more

Authentic food 8/24/2006

Great food but you feel as though your being rushed. During peak times it can get very busy and load. Still recommended. Pros: Quality of food and nice pre-dining bar area Cons: Walking to restaurant because of the beggers. Feel rushed by wait staff. more

The Perfect Popeye! 7/20/2006

I've been endulging in the simply fabulous Chicago-style deep dish pizza at Pizza Papalis since I was a child. I'm 27 now. Their spinach deep dish pie (Popeye) is the most incredible food find in all of Greektown (which is saying alot because Greektown is chock full of incredible resturants). The flavors were meant to be. This pie just melts in your mouth. The crust is buttery, crispy, and flaky all at the same time and the sauce comes from the most ripe and soul satisfying imported tomatoes. They use only the finest ingrediants so I dont mind paying the extra money for the quality. Detroit is pizza king (Little Caesers, Dominos, Hungry Howies, Jets, Buddys, Shields, Nikki's) but Pizza Papalis takes the crown for deep dish! Look out Chicago, this joint is on to you! Pros: the greektown neighborhood, near astoria bakery, great people watching Cons: wait time more

Average is the word 7/11/2006

This place is average. The pizza is piled high and is pretty decent. The price and the wait are not worth the time. The people are rude. I would say this place is average, get a $5 pizza from one of those fast food places. Pros: Average Pizza Cons: Wait, Price, Rude People more

Absolute best pizza veggi, seafood and with meat. Long wait but worth it 6/22/2006

I now live in Anchroage Alaska we have nothing even close to this wonderful Chicago style deep dish pizza. I travel extensively and have tried pizza accross the country. This pizza is the abosolute best I have ever had. A little spendy but well worth the money. Every time I am in the Detroit area I make sure to allow time for Pizza Papalis'. The veggi is my favorite with the seafood running a close second. more

Better off throwing your money away at the casino and going home hungry. 6/21/2006

Wannna feel like you just wasted your evening? Eat here! I love Chicago style pizza, but this is such a poor example that I wont even put it in that category. Pay close attention to the other reviews that mention the gooey crust, and over saucing, Their right on the money. Cons: THE FOOD! more

PARTY TIME ! 5/18/2006

The only draw back was the seating of our party, poor planing on the mangerment part. Food was great ,service was at a fast pass.Don't go there for quite time. A fun place for yong and old. Pros: Food!, service, Inexpensive Cons: parking , Crowed more

Simply EXCELLENT 3/16/2006

Ive eaten pizza 5 times a month for the last 20 years. You dont come by pizza this good too often. Great beer prices, phenomenal pies. For those worried about cost, rest assured. Its worth every penny. This is the real deal, almost makes me want to live in Detroit...almost. Pros: Deep dish pies, beer prices, great atmosphere more
