If you want great pizza in Detroit and don't have time to get to Chicago, this is the place. Ambience not for romantics, groups are perfect. Found the pizza to be great but slightly over priced but not unacceptable. Parking is a little difficult but walking in Greektown is not a bad thing. Good but Pricey 6/6/2005

My fiance and I went to Pizza Papalis for the first time this past weekend. The food was good, but don't bother taking any home. Reheated it sucks. Also, I thought it was a bit expensive for two people. $20 for pizza for two is a lot. They don't serve individual sizes at Dinner....big mistake. I am originally from Detroit and when I visit home I ALWAYS go to Pizza Papalis. Every single pizza I've tried has been excellent. The ambiance in the Greektown location is great and I absolutely love the place. I highly recommend it as the place to visit when you go to Detroit then go down to Belle Isle. Who are you kidding? Anybody that says their pies are better than Lou Malnati's, Giordano's, Gino's East, or any other authentic Chicago deep dish pizzas is just pulling your gullible legs. At best, they are just good for being a deep dish made in Motown (since when is this city the inventor of pizzas?!!). The pie has way too much cheese where you can barely taste the other toppings, the plum tomato sauce tastes like a higher quality ketchup, and overall just too pricey. Pros: In Greektown,, the only safe spot, in Detroit Cons: Way too much cheese, Overhyped & overrated, Very pricey more

Best Darn Pizza and Italian Cuisine in the World 4/26/2005

I am a traveler by trade. There is not a place that I have been that has pizza that taste this good. The crust is just right... just fluffy enough, just crisp enough, and it doesn't matter what you get on this pizza, it taste great. I even got anchovies on a pizza from this place just to taste them for the first time and see if I could make the pizza taste bad. It was great. I wish that they would open in the area in which I currently live because I miss them. Pros: Well Worth the Money, Taste Great, They Deliver Cons: Location, Location, Not in Georgia more

Mighty good considering not in Chicago 9/7/2004

Boyfriend and I ate along Greek Town and this was 1 spot we both agreed we had to try. We're from Chicago, so we know Chicago-Style Deep Dish pizzas. The atmosphere was live & kickin'. It is kid-friendly, and consists of two floors. Alot of people and buzzin', but the tables weren't overcrowded next to each other like other places. The wait is a reasonable 35-45 min. for deep dish. Now the pizza looks great and tastes great. Sauce is good and very cheesy. But I found the crust a little too dry and thick for my taste. more

The BEST PIZZA 6/24/2004

Growing up in Detroit, I knew Pizza Papalis was the best pizza. It wasn't until I moved to Dallas, TX that I realized I was right all along. Nothing compares to Pizza Papalis! Now, I have my Mom bring me a pizza when she comes to visit from Detroit, and it's the first place I visit when I go to Detroit to visit. To try their pizza is to LOVE it!!! I miss it so much!! Buddy's is still better. 1/30/2004

There's a Buddy's and a Pizza Papalis within about a block of each other in Dearborn so I decided I'd try out the Pizza Papalis. Now I wish I would have gone to Buddy's. Never have I not finished my half of the pizza for any reason except that I was too full. It was good, but simply not good enough. Pros: Good service, Nice atmosphere more

The Absolute Best 12/11/2003

Great atmosphere, good service, and the best pizza in a 100 mile radius. If you get it to-go, make sure you use metallic silverware. The pizza is so thick, that plastic stuff might not hold up. Park at Greektown Casinos and walk up. Maybe you'll win some cash on the way to the get some good eats. more

I need to preface this review by mentioning that I'm not the number one proponent of chicago-style, deep-dish pizza, I'm a thin crust man. Even given this, I find Pizzapapalis overrated. The crust is so thick that its often undercooked and doughy. The sauce is glopped on liberally to the point of being sickening but I think thats more a standard hazard with this kind of pizza. I will say that the toppings used are very fresh. All in all, I've had deep dish in Chicago and while its not my favorite I feel that this is not even the best representative of it. I'm originally from the Detroit area and whenever I come home, I make it a NECESSITY to visit Pizza Papalis...the food is great and I like the atmosphere. The only thing that would be a little frustating is the wait...but once you sit down and get your pizza, the wait was well worth it. 2 thumbs up! ...this is one of the best pizzas I have had evah! As with all of PP's pizza, its rich, cheesey, the sauce is wonderfully favored, and you actually have large chunks of seafood (as opposed to tiny shrimp-like processed thingies...) If you want stuffed pizza, then this is the only choice outside of Chicago. You'll wait to sit and it takes a good 45 mins to get your pie but it is worth the wait. more

Whats all the fuss? 1/3/2003

When I first moved to metro Detroit 3 years ago, all I heard about was Pizza Papalis, and how great their ""pies"" were. I have now made 4 and final visit there (I am not sure why I even went 4 times other than to just keep giving them a chance). Their pizzas aren't worth the long waits, and incredibly HIGH prices! The pizza was cold. We waited like minutes as I watched my waitress laugh with her co-workers. Nasty cold pizza and no tip. I will never return to PP again. more
