How many mezze can you eat 6/8/2006

Before seeing a play on Friday, my husband and I snagged the last table at Panos Kleftiko Taverna. What luck! It was busy and service was just a bit slow. But it was so worth it! We may have ordered one too many mezze (appetizers), but that's all we ordered, and they were all delicious. I was particularly fond of the eggplant dish. There was a good range of choices for both meat and non-meat eaters, which always makes me happy. I've worked in the area for a while now, and I can't believe it took me so long to finally eat here. Highly recommended, but be forewarned that there are a few tables (someone else mentioned about 10, this could be right) and it probably fills up very quickly during peak times. more

A little piece of Greece in Lower Queen Anne 3/14/2006

If you think authentic Greek food is just gyros and hummus, it's time to visit Panos Kleftiko. It's barely noticeable on 5th Ave North in Lower Queen Anne, but it's kind of better that way. Because it's only 10 tables, it gets a little hairy on the waiting list on weekends. It's really worth the wait, thought. Panos is the chef and makes all the food from scratch. Choose from chicken, lamb or seafood dinners, or do as the Greeks do and order a bunch of mezzes - small plates to share. I'd definitely suggest the kopanisti and baked feta. Honestly, I haven't had anything on the menu I didn't love. They have a good wine list as well, with several by-the-glass options, and like everything else on the menu, they give you a heft pour. All the food is served family style as Panos makes it, so if it's fast food you're looking for, better try Sushi Land on the corner. If you're looking for the best Greek food this side of the Atlantic, eat at Panos! more

Authentic Greek! Alas, I have found thee! 2/7/2006

Based on the reviews from previous members, a friend and I tried Panos the other night, and I'll sum up the experience with "Good, Great, Excellent". We visited on a Monday night, so we had no problems waiting for a table and were seated immediately. The place was still relatively full for a Mon night; I've heard that weekends can produce lines of salivating diners outside the restaurant as they wait for a table. The food was fantastic. We ordered pita & tzatziki (some of the best i've had yet) and a salmon stuffed artichoke heart for appetizers (The pita bread, as another reviewer noted, is direct from the oven!). For dinner, I stuck with lamb whilst my friend opted for a chicken dish. Both were delicious: tender, juicy and flavorful. The service was great, with one dish timely following the completion of the previous dish. We were very casual, and our server was not (refreshingly) overbearing. Service is still one notch from the top, but bests any larger establishment hands-down. I side with another reviewer here that the baklava is not the best; It has a great flavor to it, however it was a bit dry. Summary: The best little Greek place in town; However, its in tight quarters so the best experience is had on weeknights. more

Pleasant, cozy atmosphere, good food. Try the arne kleftiko: lamb, feta, and sauteed onions stuffed in a sourdough round. Skip the baklava, though: they get it in the mail. more

So this is what authentic Greek is ... 8/20/2005

Panos himself runs this little 24-to-28-top space squeezed in between the Great Nabob and Caffe Vita on 5th Ave N. of downtown. It's real alright -- so much so that you find Panos gone on holiday in Greece if you try him in the wrong month. The dishes all come from his family recipes, and the waitresses are happy to pronounce anything that you can't (and let you know which house dishes are the ones you don't want to miss). Start out with the Tatziki & Pita -- the bread is right out of the oven. Lamb dishes are also fantastic. more
