We have been going to the Painted Parrot since they first opened in their old location. When they moved, we followed.... we love the new location and their food. Pros: Awesom...

Authentic Caribbean... Serious? 7/11/2011

This is NOT authentic Jamaican fare. Okay ""Coconut chicken strips""... The dish does suggest that you're getting an ""americanized"" version of something authentic, but when you list ""Jerk Chicken"" or ""Jerk Pork"" on your menu... Authentic jerk chicken is slow cooked in a 55 gal drum over wood coals. The bones are left in the meat and cooked with the meat. The same goes for jerk pork. The ""Jerk"" is sauce, and is served on the side. That is what I was expecting... Being ""Authentic"" and all. Instead, I got diced, cooked chicken floating in Walkers Woods sauce. The jerk pork was terrible. It had the same consistancy of pate'. I have no idea how either of these were cooked. My best guess is boiled. My wife had a salad which was huge. more

Seemed like an okay place 3/29/2010

Seems like a decent enough place. Went there Friday night, we didn't get there until 8:30 and was told by the hostess there would be an hour and 15 minute wait. Looking around it didn't seem like it would take that long and it didn't. It took about 10 minutes. Waiter was good. We had the 1/2 order of nachos to snack on for the 4 of us (two couples) and there was plenty left over. My wife wasn't thrilled with her veggie wrap for dinner. Veggie wrap? Really?? Anyhow, the rest of us had the fish fry. Potato pancake was okay, but better than a lot of places. Fish was nothing special, but wasn't bad. I was just happy it was all you can eat. Pros: Fish fry is all you can eat Cons: Bland more

Turned Off 1/22/2010

I just heard about the most unprofessional approach from management and the discrimination that my friends have experienced. I've always knew about the infamous tuesdays and thursdays. But...to be accused of not ""tipping"" first of all that is a choice....it means to insure prompt service. The customer is always right. These women were treated as though they were teenagers bailing out on a bill. Once this circulates its going to be bad business...word of mouth goes a long way. It's really sad that people still treat people this way. Milwaukee is still segregated and its a shame. Before you decide to pick a new place like Jamaican...just know this is not authentic nor is it catered friendly! Pros: Food Portion Cons: Horrible customer service and poor management more

It's a Keeper! 11/29/2008

My husband and I truly enjoyed our first meal at the Painted Parrot this evening. Even though it was busy (a Saturday night), we only waited 10 minutes for a table. The waitstaff was very professional, friendly, and genuinely polite. We had the curried pork and the jambalaya. The food was very spicy and flavorful. The atmosphere was fun and lively. We'll definitely go back to try some of their other dishes. more

No Place Like It In Milwaukee 4/9/2008

The 3 negative reviews are from the same person. The individual was terminated last year. We invite you to try the Painted Parrot. It truly is the areas ONLY caribbean restaurant. Pros: Awesome food Cons: Not enough seating more

Avoid all together 1/29/2008

My husband and I were not impressed with this restaurant. The waitresses were lazy, and seemed like they didnt know how to seat people, the food was nothing to rave about. The lettuce they serve under the meat was brown and wilted. The meat servings were small. I ordered a mojito and when it came to the table the limes were brown and just looked spoiled. I have been to Jamaica 3 times and this food is far away from it. The menu says the food is spicy but it wasn't at all. We will probably never go back!!!! Pros: good value I guess for the food Cons: drinks, food service more

No Crab Except For the Owner 1/3/2008

My friend was leaving the country and got all her friends together for her Going Away. She heard they had All You Can Eat Crab at Painted Parrot. She called for reservations for 14 of us. They told her there was another party of 24 so they couldn't guarantee crab for her whole party. She said that only a few of us would be eating it. They said it would be okay and made the reservation. When we got seated the party of 24 was already seated and eating their crab and being served their other meals. When we ordered 3 people in our party wanted crab. We were told they didn't have enough to even serve 1 person due to the other party. Quite the disappointment, but they were apologetic. Then we waited well over an hour for our food. I went to complain. The host said she would talk to the owner. She said the party of 24 placed their food order at the same time as us and that is why it was taking so long. I told her the other party was served before we even ordered. She then said that they pre-placed their order that is why. I tell her this is unacceptable service and we should be compensated. She again mentions getting the owner. She disappears and doesn't return. After our server brings our bill, I tell him we never got to talk to the owner. He comes out on immediate defense. He tries to tell me that they told my friend on the phone of this other party and that if we came it would be over an hour wait and they did all they could to detour her from coming. She tells him this isn't so. He then orders me to follow him to his kitchen. He showed me how small his kitchen was and continued to give more excuses. He argued with me with his whole staff watching. He refused to compensate for the lousy service. It was the most ridiculous and unprofessional experience I have ever been witness too. We arrived at 6 and didn?t get out of there till 9. Pros: They serve large portions Cons: The service and Management more

Avoid the crab legs 8/15/2007

I thought this place was terrible for the all you can eat crab legs, they only bring out 2-3 legs at a time and they are so wet they just drip down your arm and water all over the table. Now if you can't eat a lot of crab this place would be ok, buy myself I know how to eat crab and hated to have to keep waiting to find the waiter to get 3 more legs, I told him I am good at eating these couldn't I have more than 3 at a time, he said no that's their rules. You can go right down the street to Paulies, and get their all you can eat crabs on Wednesday and Saturday, much better place. And Paulies all you can eat means your sides too. Pros: parking Cons: waiting on getting more food, it is a bar also more
