Best

Beet omelet and eggs florentine are very good. The side of fruit is also unique and tasty. Pros: good food Cons: tight seating

This used to be my favorite brunch spot. Ordered the mediterranean plate. The eggs were overdone, and more than hardbolied. Prosciutto was cut too thick, fruit on plate was 3 ...

Great appetizers, insanely slow service 5/9/2007

Not much to say, since I didn't really get to enjoy an entire dinner experience there. I went tonight after hearing great things about the food (plus, I always see tons of Greek hipsters hanging out there, so I figured the food must be authentic and tasty). We waited 10 minutes just to be greeted at our table. Then, another 15-20 to get our cold appetizer (3 greek dips with pita bread, which was DELICIOUS). We both ordered salads so we assumed they would shortly follow the appetizer, but after another 20 minutes passed, we had digested so much of the appetizer already, we weren't very hungry and asked for the salads to-go. That took another 15 minutes, and I handed my credit card to the waitress to expedite the process, and that took another 10 minutes!! I'd like to go back there again to try more dishes, as they all looked great coming out, but I'll have to go with a large group on a night when we have ample time. Pros: Outdoor seating, fantastic appetizers Cons: I could have flown to Greece quicker, people smoke at outdoor tables!! more

Consistently better! Greek Tapas!?!? Why not? 4/26/2007

Being that Ovelia opened in December, a period probably considered the worst season for most restaurants, they survived and with much more to offer. Most places slack when they see success, but not the fellas at Ovelia. They keep pumping out more options. 1.Brunch is very original, tiropita toast sandwhiches and omelettes are unique and tasty. 2.A happy hour that includes drink specials and Greek tapas (some of their best app's offered at the bar, choice of 3 for less than 20 bucks). 3.The owners are working on a new coffee bar menu and a DESSERT menu. The main courses still rock the music is still pumping and the decor seems to gain a new feel with the changing season especially now that there is outdoor seating. Love the bar!!! Less than a half a year and they've gained the notoriety they deserve (TIMEOUTNY, NYMAG)! Pros: outdoor seating more

Wait Wait and then Wait some more! 3/19/2007

This weekend, my girlfriends and I decided to try the new brunch menu at Ovelia. We have been before for dinner and had no real complaints. \r We ordered at around 2.15pm, by 3.15pm there was no sign of our food. A table near by had arrived, eaten appetisers, mains and left! Every time we asked about our order we were told ""5 minutes"". The only explanation I can think of is that the waitress forgot to put our order in, but we were offered no explanation! After we told them that if it wasn't out in 5 minutes (for the 8th time!) we wanted to pay for our coffees and leave, we were given a round of drinks. Too little too late in my opinion. The food, when it arrived was really good but to wait that long and be constantly fobbed off was not my idea of a nice relaxing brunch. \r There are too many other options in the area to waste your time not knowing if it will be worth it. My advice, go for dinner when you are in no rush! \r Pros: Good food Cons: Service more

GREEK FOOD W/ ATTITUDE 1/17/2007

Warmth as soon as you walk in. Nothing like it in Astoria in terms of decor. Fiber-optic bar, facing the street through a roll up garage window that the owners say will be open as bar seating as well during warm weather.\r Food was amazing! Their specialty is meats but I had the best Red Snapper ever, AND they deboned it right at our table! The ""kafteri"" spread (sauteed spicy green peppers, feta and olive oil) was a perfect starter especially with the seasoned pita they provided.\r Customers beside me had some beef-lamb donners/skewers which were describes as the best outside of Athens Monastery. They were called something Monastariki. Whatever! They smelled great and I'm definitely going back for them. \r Definitely a place to hang out even after the meal. Cool R&Bish, world music w/ great cocktails at the crazy lit up bar. Pros: a few blocks from the N/W lines. Cons: Forgot my lemon wedges, but completely made up for it with a great free desert (FOR EVERYONE!) more

  • The Scene
Greek restaurants in Astoria aren't usually known for their sense of style, but this corner spot is doing its best to change that. Earthy elements like naturally finished wood...
