Ortmann Stair Co

We just finished a staircase with Tim Ortmann and his lead carpenter Carl. Our project was a very large rehab project in the City of St. Louis. I have had rental property for the past 15 years and have been rehabbing property for the past several years. I had never had the need to have a staircase installed so this was a first for us and we needed some guidance. I was referred to Ortmann stair Co through another contractor. I did my due diligence and had found some negative reviews. Upon questioning Mr. Ortmann about the reviews he was able to explain the reviews and at our request provide some references. Each reference we spoke to gave positive information so we proceeded with the contract. Mr. Ortmann was able to come up with a great design. I will say it took 3 tries to come up with a design which I was anticipating and prepared for. In my many years of experience I have yet to have a large project that goes smoothly. I felt that Mr. Ortmann gave us the dedication and all the time we needed to answer questions so we were comfortable with the design. I was even more impressed that they were able to start the project immediately and finish within a week even with all the changes. I would definitely recommend them and would also be willing to act as a reference as well. Good luck with your projects. more

We have had the pleasure of working with Ortmann Stair Company not once but twice over 20 years. Tim Ortmann the owner of Ortmann Stair and fellow marine was one of the most professional contractors I've ever dealt with. We built a home 10 years ago and Tim was our stair company of choice So when we decided to build our new home Tim was one of the first subcontractors we called. Yes we had a few problems during construction but Tim was always very informative and professional to point out when a framer makes a mistake or flooring is subpar you have issues. Tim made several suggestions to correct our issues and we were up and running again! Our staircase is beautiful and we enjoy spotlighting it as a. Key feature to the craftsmanship of our home. We chose Tims custom deisgned chalice rail for our stair and custom turned newels designed one of a kind for us. That kind of craftsmanship can only be found at a small company that takes pride in everything they do. The shop is run by Carl who personally turns these newels to make sure they are perfect! It was a pleasure working with Tim and Carl every step of the way. more

He tries to bamboozle people's wages that do work for him. tons of lies and excuses though. more

Do not use this company. We spent $1600 for 3 custom safety gates for our stair cases. For that cost, we expected a high quality product. We got quite the opposite. They built the gates out of scrap wood with seams patching them together in multiple places. Once stained the different woods all stained a different color instead of being consistent. They had to return to our house 3 different times because the gates were not level and did not latch properly. The problem was still not resolved after these visits and my husband just took it on himself to fix the problem himself. They charge a premium price for a cheaply made product with poor installation. \r PS. I have never taken the time to write a poor review of a company ever before in my life. That is how unsatisfied I am with this company. more

I have been very frustrated with the owner Tim Ortman. He does not communicate with customers. He did not show up whrn he was supposed to, did not have the work done when he said it would be, and ordered the wrong material. When trying to get a hold of him he would not return our calls and then left to go out of town and left us hanging with no answers and that allowed our flooring guys not t obe able to complete their job. The subcontractor that he sent is very good though and would recommend him in a heartbeat, but we will never refer Ortmann Stair Company again. VERY DISAPPOINTED more
