Old hotel, but nice location 1/30/2009

Stayed here over Christmas, and loved the location. Right in the heart of Union Square. Rooms are very clean, but old and need to be renovated. They charge close to $50 to park overnight, so it's best to park off-site or take BART more

Great Union Square hotel 11/14/2008

This is walking distance to Union Square, Financial District, and Chinatown (among some other places). Great sleeping rooms and there is also a good bar with decent food if you don't want to venture out late. more

Marginal Staff - Small Rooms 7/22/2008

If you like being treated like a guest overstaying your welcome, this is place is for you. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor. (One bright spot was a lovely older bellman who helped us during arrival.) We came casual to breakfast, as we were on vacation, and they seated us in the corner next to the kitchen. The rooms are small but nice. However, the staff was less than friendly and needs a brush up on their attitude. We stay often in San Francisco and will go back to our old favorites after this less than thrilling experience. Further, if you want a view, go somewhere else. Pros: location Cons: staff, views more

Beautiful beginning 2/25/2008

We arrived at this beautiful hotel and was greeted by wonderful valets and all of our luggage was unloaded for us. We were brought to the front desk to check in and then to our room. It was a great room and a wonderful view. All the staff were excellent in making sure that we were well cared for. The following day we went out for a day on the city, had reservations to one of the city's premier restaurants at 7:30 and returned around 4 to prepare. Unfortunately, when we arrived the room was still unmade and we did not have clean towels. Things became worse from there. We went down to the front desk explaining that we needed towels and our room needed attention. They assured us that a housekeeper would be up immediately to take care of the situation. We returned to the front desk at 5:00 as we still had not seen a housekeeper and let them know that we had reservations at 7:30 and needed this to be taken care of immediately. The desk clerk apologised and once again said that a housekeeper would be up immediately. 6:00 pm still no housekeeper or towels we made a call to the front desk and 6:30 a housekeeper showed up saying "what do you want!" We told her the problem and she said that they had finished all of the rooms and would bring towels. 15 minutes later we received towels and the room was never made. The worst part was we were right next to the housekeeping room on the 12th floor! Horrid Service!! Needless to say we were 45 minutes late for our reservations and had to wait an hour to get a table! I have stayed at many 4 to 5 star hotels and have always gotten the best service. This was mortifying and I would never stay at this hotel again. Pros: Wonderful location, Great room, Great view of the City. Cons: Horrible service....absolutely the worst I have ever experienced even 2 star hotels are better more

Wonderful place to stay at the last minute 6/11/2007

I was in San Francisco May 31st thru June 5th and stayed at the Grand Hyatt starting June 1st. I was originally staying at the Hotel California/Savoy Hotel but the noise, room and amenties were much to be desired. So I called up the Grand Hyatt and they were having a special deal for the weekend and my stay (for 4 nights) cost roughly $900. When I entered the hotel I was treated like a VIP. They were extremely accomodating considering I was checking in at around 11:30 AM (check in is at 4 PM). The staff at the hotel were extremely kind and helpful. The room was beautiful, clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The view from my room was beautiful and another plus about this hotel is that everything is within walking distance. Macys, Westfield Centre San Francisco (Bloomingdales, Sanrio, huge food courts, Bristol Farms, Nordstroms etc....), cable cars, Union Sqaure etc.....This hotel is wonderfully located and I highly recommend it to anyone going to San Francisco. Pros: walking distance to all major San Francisco spots Cons: Valet Parking is expensive but it is San Francisco more

Probably the best Boutique Hotel in town 4/3/2007

Not much curb appeal, but the rooms are superb. Spacious, Pan-Asian decor; DVD/CD players (with free DVD rentals); super-comfy platform beds. Pros: Location; spacious and well-appointed rooms; great staff Cons: Halfway up Nob Hill...you better be in good shape! more

Great location 9/15/2006

We stayed in many hotels in SF and this Hyatt was great location if you loooooooooooove shopping. It is right at the heart of Union Square and you will even get a shopping pass at Macy's for staying there. The room was a bit smaller than the Hyatt at Embarcadero but it's still standard Hyatt quality. Pros: Great location more

Great Location 2/6/2006

We stayed at this hotel this past summer and although the rooms were small, they were lovely and clean with an old world feel. The elevator is original to the building and the restaurant in the basement is probably one of the best kept secrets in San Francisco. Pros: Great Location, Friendly staff, Good food Cons: small rooms more

where's the window seat... 8/7/2005

Our five-night stay was in all satisfactory but the descriptions I read didn't seem to mesh with a few points, such as the ""bay window and window seat in every room."" The room was extremely small, and certainly had no bay window or window seat (there was one small window behind a desk that opened into an alley-type setting). The location was good, I admit, and the staff (with the exception of one younger gentleman with an attitude) was helpful. The complimentary wine each evening (5-6 p.m.) was nice, and the coffee and juices in the morning were good (though hit-and-miss since they sere slow to replenish). The price was comparable or better than area hotels so we really can't complain too much I guess, but given the experience I would recommend spending a bit more and being able to move about a bit in the room. Pros: price, location Cons: small rooms, not as advertised more
