Used to love this restaurant but have seen it go down hill more and more each time I visit. Service especially. Just called (as instructed by my certificate) and apparently was a ...

Splurge 7/2/2004

Despite what previous reviewers may have said, this restaurant has either greatly improved (look at review dates) or they were wrong to begin with (isn't it odd that all the negative reviews read as if they came from the same person?). This restaurant is outstanding. Service is flawless, friendly, and light-hearted. The food is creative, beautifully presented, and well executed. Menu changes regularly, so you'll just have to see what options you have. However, it took our table of 4 almost 20 minutes to decide because everything looked so good. Desserts are made to order and the wine list is TRULY remarkable. This place is definately pricey, but worth the splurge. Pros: WINE LIST, ambiance, Thoughtful Service Cons: , Bit Pricey more

Number 1 5/27/2004

Small venue made for a great setting for an intimate dinner with my wife, as the waiters made us feel at ease with the overwhelming amount of information; the service will continue to stand out as this little restaurant's claim to fame! Great knowledge on menu items, friendliness, and great food to boot- this restaurant is an experience, and not just another place to eat. Pros: clean, intimate, fast more

What? 4/3/2004

My experiences at Opus have been nothing short of wonderful. Michael Long is putting out some of the best food this city has to offer. His ingredients are fresh and skillfully prepared. I have eaten at places like Adega, etc. and Opus rates in the top ten in the Denver area. Their wine list is well-researched and reasonable (the entire staff is wine-savvy), and the service is friendly and efficient. I would recommend Opus to anyone who is looking for a good meal. I would also recommend an English text, a dictionary, and an etiquette lesson to some of the other reviewers. Pros: food wine service, atmosphere, weekdays are good Cons: , weekends are busy, some rude patrons more

Great experience 3/10/2004

I have been to Opus twice. It was good the first time, but the second time the food was perfect, the service polished, and dessert was pure hedonism. The dining room was busy, but we still received enough attention from our waiter, and the sommelier (they DO exist) who led us through a fabulous wine list to a wonderful Austrian wine I cannot pronounce but happily drank because he said it would pair with every course of the Chef's menu. Man was he right. The lobster wrapped in calamari steak was great, and the entree ""Opus Slam"" of steak and quail egg and a little waffle was a huge step above any ""slam"" I have ever tasted. And dessert - Best creme brulee on earth, and a chocolate torte with a grand marnier pear ordered separately because I could not resist - Could rightly fill a review on its own. Pros: waitstaff, dessert, wine list more

even worse than last year 11/25/2003

After a recent review in teh Rocky Mountain News, we decided to try this place one last time. What a mistake! The bakery/cafe is terrible. Some of the worst pastries. Old, dry, and that nasty acrid taste from too much baking powder. Shame they lost their original pastry chef. Still can't seem to get foie gras cooked properly here. Surly staff. Overpriced wines, if they even remember to get them to the table. Over-brined porkchops. Gritty overcooked brulee as a side. It would be nice if some of the ingred. actually showed up on the plate. Buffalo came over-cooked and tough. Just too many things wrong and not enough right. Dry, tough crepes. Mealy cinnamon maple (?) ice cream and undercooked fruit crisp. Try wiping the plates at least. This place had some potential, but it hasn't improved a bit. Just not worth the price! Cons: overpriced, sloppy execution, dated food/presentati more
