Ole'- NOT the place for a party 11/22/2005

The decor is nice. The fried goat cheese is amazing. The fondu is great. And, that is about it. Our drinks were weak. Our service was TERRIBLE. I hosted a freind's birthday party there, and when I made the reservation, they required a credit card to hold the reservation. If no one showed up, or less than 14, I would be charged $25 per person. A little tacky, but I agreed. When we got there (I called to confirm serveral times) we had to wait 1/2 hour before they even set up our table, and once they did it was so crammed that no one could get up to use the bathroom. The service was terrible. Our waitress had an awful attitude and the food was just OK. Not recomemded for groups. more

the decor is definitely interesting, all dark and red. maybe we didn't order the right things, but the food and flavor combinations just didn't hit the spot. the red sangria was pretty good, but not amazing. i think it's better as a place to meet up with friends and have a few drinks (if you don't want to drive to the city), rather than a dinner spot. i'd give it one more try. Pros: nice atmosphere, nice music, not crowded Cons: ok food, service a bit slow more

I thought we'd check this place out, especially after viewing attracting webiste. At first glance, the decor stood out the most... the deep reds and cushiony furniture. Then I took a look at the crowd... typical ""valley crowd"" nooo diversity! We made reservations and were promptly seated. We were seated outside and I noticed our seats were plastic. It was like sitting on lawn furniture.. Total turn off! I ordered a mojito, which was watered down and not what I expected from an authentic tapas bar. We ordered the tapas platter which I thought captured great flavors and interesting combos. SHARE YOUR FOOD... unless you want to waste it that is (huge portions). Overall, I give it an average rating. The decor and website outweigh the service and food. Once the bill came I almost fell off my chair... REALLY EXPENSIVE. Pros: prompt seating, nice decor, huge bar Cons: typical valley crowd, rushed service, too expensive more

i've been here a couple times and really enjoys their tapas -- in particular the fried goat cheese w/honey. YUM!! also, their white sangria is very good. the service is hit & miss. we've been lucky enough to have very friendly waitresses, but the host had a bit of an attitude the last time we went. the prices are typical of the trendy LA restaurants. would be a great place to go for after work drinks. THEE WORST service of any restaurant I've been to in LA. At first I thought the bad service was done on purpose, but after a while it became clear that the waiters/waitresses are just confused. Service is just a joke. Where did they find these employees? They messed up our order about 2-3 times, took over an hour and a half to bring one of the Tapas, and was already cold when we received it. The food has no flavor either. Just a big disappointment. I have been here half a dozen times with different friends and family and everyone is always impressed - even my Spanish in-laws. The tapas are awesome. Great sangria. I'd skip the margaritas - you get about three sips and it's gone. For a bunch of friends it's best to order a bunch of different plates and just try a little of everything. Stay away from the corner booths by the bar, the benches are so uncomfortable you won't last more than 20 minutes. But why sit inside, when there is a nice patio with heated lamps? more

Once for dinner and once for a prcial Wine Tasting Evening. The latter was a great experience with exceptional food and good service. The first time for dinner we had some delicious food, but the service was just awful. Reminiscent of the old French theme, we were made to feel that we were intruding and had to beg for drinks. There are some odd choices on the menu, but most everything that we tried was really tasty and almost made it worth being treated like an American in Paris. Pros: Food, Decor Cons: Poor Service more

The food here at Ole! is very good and is an excellent value! We ordered tons of food, cocktails, & a nice bottle of wine - and when the bill came, we were shocked at how inexpensive it was. What a nice change of pace from all the other LA restaurants where the bill arrives and you have sticker shock! Also, the music here is so great. Contrary to some of the other reviews here that say the music is too loud, we loved it. Ole! is a great idea for a Ventura Blvd. restaurant and it is well-executed. Pros: great music, unbelievable value, fun atmosphere more

After visiting this restaurant twice during its first week, I was anxious to see the kinks worked out and everything fine-tuned. Boy did my evening suck. The hostess and manager were not on the same page and kept us standing over our table waiting for someone to clean it while they argued about who said the table was ready. The waitress took entirely too long but it was busy so that can be forgiven. The spacing of the dishes was off and the plates too large so we were either crowded or they were bussing the plate before we had finished. Before dinner we were at the bar and asked the bartender for a cocktail menu. She sent me to the hostess stand and said I had to get one there. The hostess told me to go back to the bar. What the hell? won't be going back soon. more

That about covers it. There is also an outdoor patio with heat lamps where you can dine or escape for a cigarette if you smoke. I had the crab cakes, sweet shrimp, and fried goat cheese with honey tapas plates- all were delicious, and the restaurant has an overall good/fun vibe. Pros: Atmosphere, Friendly service, Fantastic food Cons: Music a little loud more

The techno music was too loud for conversation. Service was good, however, the food was a HUGE disapointment. First off, the complimentary olives were martini olives & generic black canned olives. These free olives were later included in our assorted tapas platter along with parmesan cheese blocks that tasted moldy and butchered serrano ham (not the traditional beautiful thin slices). The crab cakes were the worst I've ever had. They honestly tasted like canned chunk light tuna. It's such a shame because I was really excited about a tapas bar opening in the Valley. I suppose I'll have to continue going over the hill for good food. Pros: good service Cons: terrible food more

This is a pretty hip place, especially for the valley. If you want a casual, comfortable place to have cocktails on large, velvety sofas and eat some very good tapas, you'll be delighted. The white-fish ceviche was bland, I have to say, but the calamari was the best I've ever had (and I've had too much). We also had a mushroom and artichoke dish that rocked. It's worth a shot, even with a few hits and misses. more
